Relic powers can be unlocked by offering various relics at the mysterious monolith. They are the principal benefit of the Archaeology skill.

Players are able to have up to 3 of their unlocked relic powers active at one time. None of the members relic powers work on free-to-play worlds. If playing on a free-to-play world with members-only relic powers active, they have no effect.

Harnessing relic powers costs chronotes and monolith energy, and is done via the interface at the mysterious monolith. Relic powers have no upkeep cost and are permanently active if selected. The chronotes cost to harness a relic power will always be the required monolith energy times 20.

Wearing the Archaeology cape or the Archaeology master cape allows the player to modify their relic powers at banks, eliminating the need to visit the mysterious monolith.

Unharnessing a relic power has a confirmation prompt, but overriding an existing relic power with a new one does not.

Monolith energy limit

[edit | edit source]
The Relic Powers interface at the mysterious monolith.

Monolith energy has a maximum limit of 650, which is unlocked at level 120 (it can be boosted from level 112 by maintaining an advanced pulse core boost). The monolith energy is not permanently consumed in the process of harnessing a relic power and is merely a mechanic put in place to restrict certain relic power combinations from being used.

The maximum monolith energy can be upgraded several times by completing special research, each of them requiring specific qualifications. These upgrades are listed in the following table. Furthermore, solving Mysterious City, requiring level 120 Archaeology, increases the energy by 150 for a maximum of 650 with all of the above research completed.

Archaeology level Requirement Qualification Monolith energy limit change
5 Archaeology tutorial N/A +150
40 Mysterious Monolith: Existence Assistant +100
70 Mysterious Monolith: Architecture Associate +150
90 Mysterious Monolith: Symbology Professor +100
120 (b) Mysterious City Associate +150

The table below shows that the maximum limit is 650, provided all specified requirements are met.

Requirement Limit change Cumulative limit
Archaeology tutorial +150 150
Mysterious Monolith: Existence +100 250
Mysterious Monolith: Architecture +150 400
Mysterious Monolith: Symbology +100 500
Mysterious City +150 650

Relic presets

[edit | edit source]

Players can create customised relic power loadouts and swap between them while at the Monolith or while using the Archaeology cape at a bank. Two presets are unlocked by default; a third preset can be purchased from the Archaeology Guild Shop for 80,000 chronotes after obtaining the Professor qualification, while a fourth preset is automatically unlocked after obtaining the Guildmaster qualification.

The main benefit of relic presets is that switching loadouts only costs 80% of the total chronote cost to harness relics. If one of the relics in the second loadout is already being harnessed, its cost is deducted from the loadout activation cost. Harnessing a new relic power in an inactive loadout still costs the full price, however — the discounted price is only applied upon activation of the loadout.

Update history

[edit | edit source]
This information has been compiled as part of the update history project. Some updates may not be included – see here for how to help out!
  • update 10 February 2025 (Update):
    • Archaeology Relics can now be harnessed to two loadouts with three Relics each.
      • To maintain a sink for Chronotes, switching the active loadout costs 80% of the Chronote cost of each Relic harnessed to that loadout.
      • If a relic is harnessed to both the selected and active loadout, the Chronote cost of this Relic is also deducted from the loadout activation cost.
      • An additional loadout tab can be purchased from the Archaeology Guild Shop for 80,000 Chronotes, requiring the Professor qualification. (Added to The Prodigal Spender achievement.)
      • An additional loadout tab is awarded for completing the Guildmaster qualification. (Added to the Guildmaster qualification certificate.)
  • patch 14 April 2020 (Update):
    • If you have the Berserker's Fury relic power active while wearing a full Dharok's set, the Dharok's set effect will be applied instead of the relic power.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • During RuneFest 2019's Archaeology demo, three additional relic powers were shown, which were not released with Archaeology. In addition, Pharm Ecology was called "Healthy Herbs" and only affected herbs, while Luck of the Dwarves was not included as a relic at all.
    • Lingering Death: Stunning the target refreshes the player's bleed effects.
    • Death Note: All guaranteed bones and demonic ashes drops are automatically noted.
    • Set Reduction: Set effects require 1 less item to activate.
