Ancient Invention is an expansion for the Invention skill. It introduces ancient weapon gizmos, ancient armour gizmos and ancient tool gizmos and a variety of skilling items.

Ancient gizmos[edit | edit source]

To unlock ancient invention, players must either purchase the following blueprints from the Grand Exchange (a minimum of 85 Invention is required to use the Gizmo blueprint), or unlock them manually by training Archaeology and crafting the blueprints. It is not required to visit Howl's Floating Workshop to learn Ancient Invention, simply reading the blueprint will allow the player to unlock ancient gizmos. When training Archaeology at Stormguard Citadel, players will receive torn blueprint fragments which can then be used to craft ancient gizmo blueprints at Howl's invention bench in the upper level of Stormguard Citadel. In order to access Howl's Floating Workshop, players must have level 95 Archaeology, this is not required if the blueprints are purchased from the Grand Exchange.

Ancient components[edit | edit source]

Players can acquire 4 types of Ancient components from Archaeology by disassembling restored artefacts. Broken artefacts cannot be disassembled. These components are used in the making of ancient gizmos, devices, and perks. They can also be traded amongst players by exchanging component crates.

In order to prepare these components, players must have the respective Invention level in discover them, varying with each one. They may then be used for gizmo shells.

Ancient devices[edit | edit source]

Ancient devices can be created through the disassembly of Archaeology's materials and artefacts, or bought in bulk at the Grand Exchange. Ancient gizmos have weapon, tool, and armour variants that allow the creation of new perks. The ancient gizmo has 9 slots, allowing the player to experiment further with perks and rank combinations, obtaining perk ranks that are not obtainable from normal gizmos, such as Scavenging 4.

Three new perks are also introduced with Ancient Invention - Fortune, Relentless and Ruthless. As these perks require the use of ancient components, they can only be created from ancient gizmo shells.

The XP capacitor is an Invention device and acts like bonus experience for Invention items. Players can fill the XP capacitor while training with augmented items, with some of the item experience that would have gone to the player's augmented items being stored in the capacitor instead. A filled XP capacitor is tradeable; and grants a player using it double item experience until the capacitor is empty.

Ancient Invention also allows the player to further enhance Invention tools such as the fishing rod-o-matic, hammertron, and pyro-matic so that they act as level 80 tools rather than level 70 tools.
