To unlock ancient invention, players must either obtain the blueprints from players or the Grand Exchange, or unlock them manually by training Archaeology and crafting the blueprints. It is not required to visit Howl's Floating Workshop to learn Ancient Invention, simply reading the blueprint allows the player to unlock them. All Invention level requirements can be boosted by 17 levels using extreme invention potions.
Blueprints[edit | edit source]
When training Archaeology at Stormguard Citadel Dig Site, players will receive torn blueprint fragments which can then be used to craft ancient gizmo blueprints at Howl's invention bench in the upper level of Stormguard Citadel. In order to access Howl's Floating Workshop, players must have level 95 Archaeology.
|Level||To unlock||Blueprint required||Cost (GE)||Cost (fragments)|
|85||Ancient weapon gizmo
Ancient armour gizmo
Ancient tool gizmo
|'Ancient gizmos' blueprint||4,735,162|| 200 (untradable blueprint) |

Ancient components[edit | edit source]
Players can acquire 4 types of Ancient components from Archaeology by disassembling restored artefacts. Broken artefacts cannot be disassembled. These components are used in the making of ancient gizmos, devices, and perks. They can also be traded amongst players by exchanging component crates.
|Level||Component unlocked||Traded as||Cost (GE)|
|85||Classic components||Small crate (classic components)||2,351,443 for 100 classic components|
|85||Historic components||Large crate (historic components)||6,794,853 for 1000 historic components|
|94||Vintage components||Large crate (vintage components)||1,860,262 for 25 vintage components|
|103||Timeworn components||Large crate (timeworn components)||1,264,801 for 25 timeworn components|
The Scavenging perk cannot find Ancient components.
Ancient gizmos[edit | edit source]
Ancient gizmos have weapon, armour, and tool variants that allow the creation of new perks. The ancient gizmos have nine slots, allowing the player to experiment further with perks and rank combinations, obtaining perk ranks that are not obtainable from normal gizmos, such as Scavenging 4 and Aftershock 4.
Ancient perks[edit | edit source]
Three new perks are introduced with Ancient Invention. As these perks require the use of ancient components, they can only be created in ancient gizmo shells.
|Perk||Created on gizmo||Effect|
|Fortune||Ancient tool gizmo||Gathering skills: Has a 0.5% chance per rank to double and bank what you have gathered.|
Production skills: Has a 0.1% chance per rank to double and bank what you have produced.
|Relentless||Ancient weapon & armour gizmos||1% chance per rank to prevent adrenaline being consumed when using an ability that requires adrenaline.|
|Ruthless||Ancient weapon gizmo||Whenever you defeat an enemy you gain a 0.5% damage boost per rank for 20 seconds. This can stack up to 5 times.|
Ancient devices[edit | edit source]
Ancient Invention also allows the player to further enhance existing Invention tools so that they act as level 80 tools rather than level 70 tools.
The XP capacitor is an Invention device and acts like bonus experience for Invention items. Players can fill the XP capacitor while training with augmented items, with some of the item experience that would have gone to the player's augmented items being stored in the capacitor instead. A filled XP capacitor is tradeable; and grants a player using it double item experience until the capacitor is empty.
|Enhanced hammer-tron||93||95||'Ancient tools' blueprint||The tool awards Invention experience from disassembly and siphoning as a level 80 tool rather than level 70.|
|Enhanced fishing rod-o-matic||93||95|
|XP Capacitor 5000 (Inactive)||106||95||'XP Capacitor' blueprint||A filled XP capacitor is tradeable and grants a player using it double item experience until the capacitor is empty.|
|Experimental Aether Reactor||108||118||Theoretical blueprints||Using it on the mysterious monolith unlocks the Conservation of Energy relic power.|
|The Subtle Blade||111||112||Theoretical blueprints||Using it on the mysterious monolith unlocks the Abyssal Link relic power.|
