Snowverload is a seasonal boss monster that appears in Christmas Village 45 minutes past each hour. Snowverload must be defeated using snowballs, and rewards Christmas spirit, Christmas wrapping paper, snowballs, and Christmas food once beaten.

This boss was originally released during the second week of the 2014 Christmas event and rereleased starting with the third episode of the 2015 Christmas event quest. Most recently, it was again rereleased as part of Christmas village starting with the 2025 Christmas event.

In the Cold Front quest the player helps the Queen of Snow to build a non-player character variant of it which the player then reduces to Snow Worries through dialogue.

Mechanics

[edit | edit source]

Players must damage Snowverload wielding snowballs to defeat him with the help from the snowmen in the arena while he attacks the players with various attacks. Non-snowball off-hand weaponry is also allowed. Snowverload deals damage proportional to life points that the player has remaining. The maximum life points of Snowverload scales with the number of players in the area. Dying during the fight is safe as Queen of Snow revives any players that die with full life points.

Snowverload's auto-attacks are a melee area-of-effect attack if his target is next to him and a magic area-of-effect attack otherwise.

The Snowverload has an array of special attacks that may hinder players during the fight, including:

  • Snowverload traps you in a bauble! Roll in front of them to be smashed free. – Turns players into a blue, green, or red giant bauble, and one must run in front of him to be freed.
  • You've been covered with a stocking. Run around to shake it free! – This turns players into a green or red stocking, and one must move a moderate distance away from their initial location in order to be freed.
  • You've been turned into a snowman. Find the fire entity to melt yourself! – This freezes players and happens at the same time as the fire entity, and one must find the fire entity to be freed. The frozen players may only move at a walking speed.
  • You've been turned into a fire entity. Find the [number] snow elementals to free yourself! – This happens at the same time other players become snowmen, and one must find all of them to be freed. The player chosen as the fire entity may move around if desired to melt snowman players.
  • A present has spawned. Get in it before Snowverload attacks! – Spawns a giant present which players may hide in to avoid Snowverload's attack that deals 10% of remaining life points of damage.
  • Snowverload shielding himself in an ice block, preventing all damage towards him and causing players to slip.
  • Snowverload spinning around and sending beams out his hands, dealing 10% of remaining life points of damage to all players caught in the beams.

All attacks that transmogrify players prevent them from attacking Snowverload.

As Snowverload's life points decrease, he gradually decreases in size. He becomes mobile at half his maximum life points.

Snowverload spawns once per hour, at the 45-minute mark. If the Snowverload is not killed within 15 minutes of spawning, he will despawn, and no players will receive any drops. Each player can only get rewards from Snowverload once per hour.

Strategy

[edit | edit source]

An Essence of Finality amulet with an eldritch crossbow stored is the single item that increases damage by the most, but a player should probably not invest in this item solely for this boss.

The player should spam the amulet's special attack and use any ranged abilities that hit multiple times such as Corruption Shot. The "Split Soul" damage is far higher than normal damage from snowballs. A physical weapon cannot be used because the special-attack-buff would be lost when switching to snowballs. Soul Split should always be used, as there is no danger of dying. Other equipment that can be considered include hydrix bakriminel bolts (e), a Ranged cape or cape that provides the benefits of such, Greater Ricochet, an off-hand crossbow with Caroming 4, and all 3 pieces of elite sirenic armour. Death's Swiftness increases the "Split Soul" damage.

2015 Christmas Event

[edit | edit source]

It is fought by the player during the 2015 Christmas event during the third episode of the quest, Licence to Chill. It can also be fought after the episode with an announcement in chat as to when Snowverload appears at the iceberg north of Daemonheim.

2014 Christmas Event

[edit | edit source]

During the 2014 Christmas event it spawned every 3 hours in sync with the Guthixian cache and Tinsel snakes at one of these locations (different for each world):

In the event that it survives for 3 hours, a new one does not spawn and the current one remains.

Once Snowverload is found, players must team up and defeat it using only snowballs, as it is the only weapon that damages it. Snowballs may be gathered in stacks of 100 by right clicking Snowverload and must be equipped to be functional.

Once Snowverload is reduced down to low health, he constantly heals to 5,000 life points. At this stage, Snowverload must be lured to Santa Claus at the Lumbridge Crater to be finished off.

Being near Santa when it dies will grant all participants two festive papers, the ability to deliver another present on the same day as well as a turkey drumstick, roast potatoes and mulled wine. Additionally, it will reset the daily cheer points cap from Tinsel Snake Hunt. Doing the event again on the same day rewards only the food items, but not the festive papers nor another second delivery. Be sure to be near Santa, or else you will not get rewarded, even if you did damage.

If you did not deliver your daily present before fighting Snowverload, you will not be able to get an extra delivery that day.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Snowverload's examine is a play of words on the phrase "He has no business here".
  • Snowverload's name was suggested by a player as part of a competition.[1]
  • On the first day of release, Snowverload was available to all players, but he was made members only on 9 December 2014.
    • Snowverload was not intended for free players. There was a miscommunication between the news writer and the development team.
  • When one is transformed into a stocking or bauble, the player's chathead becomes similar to that of the air form during the Metamorphosis ability.
  • When Santa finishes off Snowverload, he uses an animation comparable to the Sunshine ability.
  • Using Monster Examine gives the message: "You can't find out their stats."
  • Snowverload is immune to reflect damage.
  • Trying to take snowballs from Snowverload while having a full inventory would result in the message "You don't have space in your inventory to do that.![sic]", with both the full-stop and the exclamation mark.
  • The "snowball" model that appears when you take snow uses the same model as Lily of the valley.
