Oh Dear[edit source]

I screwed up editing trying to fix :O -zotic50=

Older messages[edit source]

'Always drops' and 'Other Drops' needs to go (replace with 'notable' drops?), we also need a column that lists 'Slayer XP' --Eucarya 23:36, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Could the 'Examine desc.' just say 'Examine info'? Lol, sorry about being picky, but it just doesn't look nice to me with 'desc.'. Why does the drops have to be removed? Can't just one go away and then add slayer xp? --Richard1990 00:05, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

We could take out both drops and just list them in the articles. I don't think we should add slayer xp to this template, since most monsters are not slayer monsters. We could make another 2 templates for slayer monsters if you really want that. --X1011 17:33, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Srry thought I had switched to french wiki, won't do that again :P. --Whiplash :19:42, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

I got rid of the "Max hit". Imo, I just think it would be to hard to update every monster. Sysop crown.svgTes FanSysop crown.svg 22:32, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

I would have been willing to update most of the monsters, but ah, what the heck. It's easier to state the max hit in the article anyway. White partyhat.pngCh1lled SocksWhite partyhat.png13:57, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Umm, how do I update Max Hit? I have, on film, my friend dying. The dragon hit a 349 on him.

I agree with above :P... i have on film a dude walking into drags, as well as myself and not getting attacked umm is that weird they r not aggressive :P at least not me and that dude thy r misunderstood :P

Required level may have changed. It is now certainly lvl 81 slayer to attack them in the rellika slayer dungeon.

Everybody's using this on their userpages[edit source]

Well not everybody, but a lot of people. Also popular for userpages is Template:Infobox Item. You can tell by looking at userpages that "need image". What's up with this? -- Atlantima talk trade contribs 18:33, 6 September 2007 (UTC) Wow, seems like users are just having fun with this to describe themselves. Some of them are very interesting. Thanks for posting this....hmmm...now what can i do? Chrislee33 05:10, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

You don't have to do anything, it's just... seems kind of silly to me. -- Atlantima talk trade contribs 18:36, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Max Hit[edit source]

I didn't see that monsters' max hits have already been discussed. I already added it to the template, but if anyone feels it doesn't belong there, feel free to revert it. AriasCombatSwords.pngKnight 00:27, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

--- hey, i have a question, nd im pretty sure alot of other pople do 2, nd u might wanna put the asnwer in the actual wiki page, on the max hit, it says max hit is 82, is that the max hit after the update that multiplied evrything by 10, wat im askin is, after the update, is the max hit 820, or is it still 82, cuz it wudd be a hell of a difference... (DarkKn1ght97)

The max hit with mage is higher than 250 i was hit over 300 twice will in full bandos. (Thelawgiver4)

Handling missing values[edit source]

I just changed the syntax for the image, because I noticed that with the old syntax, if you had "image=" in the template call, the infobox would display nothing instead of displaying "Please add an image!". Former syntax was :

{Please add an image!}

My new syntax is :

{{#if:{}|{image}|Please add an image!}}

This fixes the problem, but it's the same with all fields : any empty value results in an empty string being displayed instead of the normal "Unknown", ie, only the values not set at all are handled properly. I noticed that this was introduced in the revision as of 00:36, 1 January 2008 should I revert all fields to the old syntax ?

NB : the problem also occurs with Template:Infobox Item, which I didn't fix yet, so you can see on Desert clothing, for instance, how the picture emplacement is empty.

NB2 : I put both templates in my sandbox, feel free to experiment with them there Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 21:31, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Also, what do you think of adding an edit link after missing values (like I did for the max hit field)? I think it's a good call for completing the informations when you read the article. Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 18:27, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

HP and XP = redundant?[edit source]

I really don't think we need to have an XP and an HP field, since the XP for killing the monster is 4*HP in non-hitpoint skills, and around 1.33*HP (not sure about this one) in hitpoint. This creates a redundant information, and looks quite a mess when you find out that for some monsters, XP != 4*HP.

 • So, suggestion #1 : remove XP field

In the same area, as far as I know the slayer XP = monster HP. So, what about the slayer field ? I think it should be the required slayer lvl to kill the monster, so valid values could be : No (should be automatically replaced by Not assigned in the template) or any number between 1 and 99. NB: I noticed that for a few monsters (I don't remember which ones), the slayer field has actually been set to the required slayer lvl.

 • So, suggestion #2 : replace slayer XP with required slayer lvl

Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 20:15, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Hm... if nobody reacts about this, I'm going to start implementing this and wait if some reactions come :D Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 19:49, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
I actually thought that "Slayer" was the level rather than the XP.. and experiance just seems like extra info to add anyway, useless.. I'd say go for it. Grim reaper hood.png Ben RyfosTalk 20:11, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok, so I removed the XP field, replaced the "slay" field with "slaylvl", which is the required slayer lvl to kill the monster. I also edited the poisonous field so that you can enter a number (the poison starting hit) in the field for poisonous monsters. I also wrote a quite extensive documentation so that editors will know precisely what to put in every field. I hope you guys like it :) Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 15:06, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

I have been trying to update some slayer lvl info but when I click on edit I see a page with the number already there. So why isn't it being displayed? Sorry Im not signed in, this is Degenret01.

To avoid displaying a lot of erroneous information (the new slayer field doesn't have the same meaning as the old one), the slayer field name was changed : it's now "slaylvl" instead of "slay", as mentioned in the doc. Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 12:13, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Yea, I got the part about this being changed. What i do NOT get is why when I click the edit button I do not see Slay level, so that I may insert the info. Thats the part Im confused on. If it's too long and tedious to explain, thats ok. I'm real new to editing stuff on the internet. Degenret01 04:45, 29 Jan 2008 (ETC)

Oh. Well, you need to add the "slaylvl=" manually. For instance, if you have :
|HP = 40
|exp = 200
|slay = 40

replace it with :

|HP = 40
|slaylvl = 1

(remove XP and slay field, and create the slaylvl field). Is it what you wanted to know?Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 12:12, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Thats it, thanks. I thought that part would have been done automatically when the info boxes were changed. I guess I watch too many movies. Degenret01

Max hit + attack style = redundant?[edit source]

I noticed that Sylvarian added an "attack style" field. I think this kind of info should be mentioned in the max hit field, as this is already the case when all max hits for all attack styles are known. For instance, instead of having:

|max hit = 10 (Melee), 8 (Mage)
|attack style = Melee, Magic, Ranged

we should have:

|max hit = 10 (Melee), 8 (Mage), ? (Ranged)

Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 06:53, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Required Slayer lvl[edit source]

Is this really necessary? Most monsters are not assigned as Slayer tasks, and most of those are not Slayer monsters, and do not require any Slayer level to be killed. Only Slayer monsters, of which there are only a dozen or two, have a required Slayer level. The required Slayer lvl is something which should be (and probably already is) stated in the body of the article (in the introductory paragraph, most likely). We don't really need it to be in the infobox, and if it is, it should be hidden by default unless a value is entered (don't know how to do that =P). Slayer-icon.png Gangsterls Divination-icon.png talk01:24, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Hiding it by default is the best way to have it missing. But I suppose we could hide it if set to "no". I can do it if nobody opposes (from the very high number of ppl who took part in this page's discussion before, I guess nobody will oppose anyway :D - btw, what's your opinion about Max hit + attack style = redundant?). Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 06:23, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Both should be mentioned because some monsters are so different when it come to attacking styles. For example, Karamel will only hit rare 1s with melee, but much harder using ancient magicks. Also, shouldn't a combatant know if the monster uses melee+range, melee+magic, etc? AriasCombatSwords.pngKnight 06:32, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Hm, I think you didn't notice that I was referring to something I posted a bit higher in the page: Max hit is already supposed to mention all attack styles. Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 06:36, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Adding redundant fields back and more[edit source]

I did my best to make this template as "compact" as possible, with still a decent amount of information but with no duplicate fields, and now some ppl are adding duplicate fields again, obviously without reading the talk page first...

 • Monster HP and Slayer XP are redundant since slayer XP is most often the same as monster HP
 • Max hit and Attack style are redundant, just read the current example to figure it out (max hit mentions all attack styles already)

Can I remove Slayer XP and Attack style before ppl waste their time "updating" the pages where the template is used? Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 07:19, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

I would agree that Slayer XP is renundant and not needed but we should keep Attack style because it is not always mentioned. Chicken7 >talk 03:45, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Other drops?[edit source]

I know that this field maybe useless as this can be mentioned in articles. But what if the monster doesn't drop anything other than the one it "Always drops"? And, I would rather remove this field when I'm 100% certain ALL articles have "Other drops" within the article. --  az talk   16:23, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough. May be coloured blue in the near future.earth(t)
I'm very sure all monsters that drop items have a section containing their drop list. And most "Other drops" parameters merely say See Article. --Drummer (speak) 17:50, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
This really should be changed into "most notable drops", as I wrote when I bothered to produce most of the documentation for the template. Into this form this would be interesting, since the aim of an infobox is to point out the key information mentioned on the whole page. So a field mentioning "why everyone likes slaying this monster" is totally appropriate IMO... but, well, ppl here seem to like messing quickly with templates, without thinking about all the hard work it destroys (a thought for the ppl who spent some time filling the fields, anyone?)... and all the new work it necessitates. Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 19:24, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
You can't assume ALL, i mean ALL, monsters have Other drops in their article, just do a simple search within wikia for Other drops, and you can see how many articles have information other than See article. Removing a field should be done with consensus, and should probably be discussed in the Yew Grove. But, heck, it has been removed, by someone. Again! Now, I have to go around removing other drops from all the articles with the other drops in the template. Nice job!! Why don't you delete those, Clv? FYI, Clv has the highest deletion log! --  az talk   11:23, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Agressive just yes or no?[edit source]

Many monsters i believe are agressive until a player is a certain level relative to theirs where others always or never attack, so shouldnt there be an option inbetween --Tjayh913 20:22, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Hiding slayxp[edit source]

Is there any way to hide the slayxp field when "No" is entered for the slaylvl field? It would get rid of all the ugly Unknowns and N/As from the monsters that aren't assigned. Why do we need a field displaying slayer experience for a monster that isn't assigned? Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 11:13, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Name parameter[edit source]

Name parameter code was chaged from 'name' to 'PAGENAME' on 28 April 2008. However, not every name is the same as the article name, e.g. Wild Jade Vine on the Jade Vine page. So, I changed it back to 'name'. There is a way to code it so that if the name parameter is blank, then use 'PAGENAME'. However, I'm not sure exactly how do to it now. Maybe someone else can do it; if not I'll look into it later. Chrislee33 21:58, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

It now uses PAGENAME if name is blank :-) Quest map icon.png Laser Dragon Task map icon.png 22:17, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't see the point of adding this rule. I'm sure the "name" parameter is always filled in.   az talk   02:39, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Slayer Xp + HP = redundant[edit source]

Slayer experience is pointless. Nearly everyone knows HP = Slayer Xp. For those who don't, they need to learn.
The main problems with this are as follows:

 • Monsters that are never assigned as slayer tasks have slayer exp on their page because someone decided to add a number.
 • Some monsters that are slayer assignment do not have the slayer exp on their page.
 • Some monsters that are slayer assignments have the wrong amount of experience on their page. Waterfiends are one such example.
 • Some monsters that have multiple levels and HPs only have one slayer exp listed, even though each individual HP amount gives that much exp.

For monsters that give more experience than their HP, I've already seen it mentioned in their articles. Such as Bork.

It is pointless to have, I'm removing it if no one objects. Dsctatom 04:24, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

 • If a monster can never be a slayer task, then slaylvl=no (or should be). If slaylvl=no then the slayer experience row is hidden.
 • Several possible reasons:
 • It might not be known.
 • It might be being discussed on the talk.
 • A vandal could have removed it and it wasn't undone fully.
 • Some monsters don't give their exact HP as slayer exp: I'm not sure about waterfiends, but Iron dragons are definately one of these.
 • Again, many possible reasons:
 • They all give the same experience each
 • The editor that added the info only tested on level of the monster.
For these reasons, and that many players do not know that generally hitpoints is slayer experience, I oppose removing it. Since this affects a lot of pages (about 800), maybe you should consider taking it to the Yew Grove. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 15:30, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Now that you run along the area, get many as can of those rangers & magers on u, and after several of them are attackin you, use any of teleport, as exam to Varrock. now that u wait a bit, last missiles that those ivory statues shot at u during the teleport, arrives and will hit several 0 dmg hits on account.

That's teh bug i wanted to tell, and soz idk did i add this message in correct decoration but ahhhh w/e i rather it to be something enought to add in Trivia, nether sure does it work still, since been f2p for few days now..

There appers to be bug with revenant golblins much? Their head scretch back and forth whilst they're moving, LOL.

Attack speed[edit source]

Perhaps it would be helpful to indicate a monster's attack speed using the speed bar. The following could be used in order to do so:

|-
!nowrap="nowrap"|Attack speed
| {{#if:{}|{attack speed}|Unknown <small>[ edit]</small>}}

You could probably make use of the speedbar for this as well; for example, you might enter the following as the value for a monster with attack speed 5:

|attack speed = 5

slayer masters[edit source]

I've already submited this idea on yew grove, but now that I've come accross this page, I think it might be more appropriate here. I think monster pages should have a section listing the masters who assign that monster. This list would probably fit pretty well in the monster infobox. Unless perhaps some masters assign creatures for their special task that they don't usually assign, but I don't know if this is ever the case, except in the case of special instance monsters like those for Mazchna's special task. I think this would be a relatively simple, and small, yet valuable addtion to the monster infoboxes, or at least the monster pages.Quest point cape.pngSk8r dan man Quests 02:57, July 31, 2010 (UTC)

Just thought I'd say that the page I started for this idea on Yew Grove ended up hitting off relatively well, so if you're interested, just go to the Slayer monster pages forum page and share your ideas with everyone there. current argument only works if a single number (real or integer) is used.... additional info or explaining different situations voids the validity of the input resulting in a status of "unknown"

this is probably because the script to calculate constitution cannot recognize multiple entries and of course isn't set up to separate a level designation from its experience (could it be tied with the level argument?) --Qaz Wiz (talk) 21:06, April 18, 2013 (UTC)

I did it this way because every other parameter has half of the infobox for its value; the four combat stats only have one-fourth. It's a matter of saving as much slace as possible. If they were any longer, they'd be twice the height. Not only does it look weird with keeping the template pretty, but it looks weird to have the two words split. MolMan 13:53, July 2, 2013 (UTC)

New category - Stunnable[edit source]

I would like to propose a category of Stunnable monsters using the InfoBox parameter code of immune to stun = No. The complementary category of Stun-immune monsters already exists.--Epass (talk) 15:52, March 17, 2015 (UTC)

Could be done, but I don't see the point. Any monster not in the immune category would be susceptible to stunning (or immobile anyway)... It'd be a HUGE list of monsters anyway. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 15:53, March 17, 2015 (UTC)

Any category that provides a subset of the Bestiary has value. The Bestiary itself is a huge list of monsters! With existing subsets in place, different combinations can be examined for intersection by the users. For example, I can think of an excellent use for the intersection of this proposed Stunnable category and the Weak to Fire spells category  :> --Epass (talk) 16:11, March 17, 2015 (UTC)

We can do negations of categories to find those that are stunnable. MolMan 16:13, March 17, 2015 (UTC)
That would work perfectly as well! What is the syntax for that? And can you direct me to a documentation page for this kind of thing in the Wiki?--Epass (talk) 16:29, March 17, 2015 (UTC)
With what I showed you on your talk page, you'll want to read http://semeb.com/dpldemo/index.php?title=DPL:Manual MolMan 16:30, March 17, 2015 (UTC)
An interesting read and I'm now able to implement any desired AND/OR combination I want. But negation still eludes me as it seems I would specify it in a Notcategory parameter (not in a Category parameter)
Thanks for any help!--Epass (talk) 21:51, March 17, 2015 (UTC)
Correct. You're use notcategory = Stun-immune MolMan 21:54, March 17, 2015 (UTC)
