The butterfly mask is part of the butterfly outfit, along with the butterfly top and butterfly legs, which was given for free to players by Memstix during the Tribute to Guthix event. It increased the chances of catching a Guthixian butterfly when worn, during the event.

It became available again during the 2019 Easter event from the druids standing next to Tribute stone that appeared next to Falador lodestone. It could be purchased from Thaerisk Cemphier during the Spring Festivals since 2021.

It has appeared in the seasonally available The Grand Eggs-change in the Blooming Burrow for 500 spring tokens.
