Holiday rewards
Holiday rewards are items, emotes, cosmetic overrides or titles that are awarded to players on certain holidays through a drop, quest or task.
The first rewards come from RuneScape Classic and were typically randomly dropped on the ground throughout Gielinor. The first ones were tradeable but their rise in price and the subsequent player anger for missing the drops led Jagex to make the next rewards untradeable and to finally stop holiday drops. On 22 December 2003, Jagex put an announcement on RuneScape's main page saying that they were ceasing holiday drops.
“ | As for bringing back old rewards; I can confirm that this is NOT going to happen. I can understand how much you want them (I've got most of the non-tradeable rewards but missed out on the Snow Globe which I think is a great reward) - but if I were to give these rewards to everyone they would lose their sparkle. Also it just wouldn't be fair to those who got them originally.
I can also confirm that the Christmas event's reward will NOT be tradeable. This would give players a notable in-game advantage - as eventually they'd be worth a lot of cash. |
” |
— Mod Edam on holiday items [1] |
Since then, Holiday rewards are obtained through a holiday themed task or quest.
Holiday rewards always were available to F2P players until around 2011, with the first members only reward being the wintumber tree from the 2006 Christmas event. Since then, more and more rewards were only obtainable by members.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The Cornucopia from the 2008 Thanksgiving event and the Peahat from the 2012 April Fools event are the only holiday rewards that are still obtainable even after the event. This was seen as a relief to some players that missed the event and has caused some requests to Jagex for other non-tradeable rewards from the past events to be obtainable in some way similar to the Cornucopia.
- Attempting to analyse or disassemble holiday items (that cannot be disassembled) released up until 2005 would trigger the message You could not bring yourself to destroy this rare item.
