The key to the Crossing is a drop that is obtained from defeating the inhabitants of the Sophanem Slayer Dungeon, the Sanctum of Rebirth and Amascut, the Devourer. It is used to access the Magister boss fight, consuming one key per fight.

Like the khopesh of the Kharidian and corrupted gems, these keys are dropped on the ground if rolled on rather than being placed in the chest for safekeeping.

Keys may also be acquired while killing relevant monsters in a player-owned Slayer dungeon.

If killing the monsters on a Slayer task, the drop rate of the key is greatly increased. The base drop chance of a key is 1/400, which is increased to 1/75 when on-task, and 1/128 as a "refund" drop from the Magister himself; these are increased to 1/395, 1/60, and 1/100 respectively when carrying a Sophanem slayer dungeon drop enhancer. It is a 100% drop from Oreb, the Magister in The Shadow Reef, though he is not guaranteed to appear in each dungeon attempt.
