Distorted key detail.png

A distorted key is a possible reward from an ancient casket which is located using a tetracompass. Obtaining it indicates a failed 1/10 chance roll for the shadowy key. The distorted key will not open the display case for Guildmaster Tony's mattock,[1] but awards Archaeology experience equal to that from studying a complete tome. Unlike most other items that award experience, the key can be banked.

Upon using the key, a dialogue box will display with the message "As you attempt to use the key, it snaps in the lock."

The examine text is inherently misleading as a distorted key will never award Guildmaster Tony's mattock when used on the display case, and serves only to inform players about how to redeem the key, which will award the player with Archaeology experience.
