Annette Kadaan (née Despaard[1]) is a former Varrockian noble found on the 1st floor[UK]2nd floor[US] of the house north of the Edgeville bank. She is acting as a bodyguard to her wife, the notorious master thief Caelyn Kadaan.[2]
History
Annette was born as the eldest daughter of the Despaard family in Varrock[1], though her relationship with her parents was strained. Their relationship reached its breaking point when Annette's mother attempted to pressure her into marrying Lord Clutterbuck, a man Annette described as incredibly dull.[3] One day, she found Caelyn attempting to steal from her family estate. The two of them hit it off and Annette renounced her nobility to follow Caelyn on her adventures, eventually marrying her and moving to Edgeville.[1][4][5][6] Annette acts as a bodyguard to Caelyn, trying to keep her out of trouble and her antics in check, which she says is not easy. She is apparently very skilled at swordfighting.[7] Annette is also an avid dancer; she tried to teach Caelyn multiple times, but she wasn't able to learn.[8]
One year, the Easter Bunny had the idea to hire imps to help him deliver chocolate eggs. However, Annette and Caelyn secretly riled them into revolting and stealing the eggs. When the Easter Bunny asked a human adventurer to help retrieve the eggs, the couple offered the adventurer rewards in exchange for delivering the eggs to them instead.[9] When pressed for a motive, they merely responded that they intended to sell the eggs to their contacts[10], to whom they may or may not have spread wild rumours of the eggs' properties.[11] In truth, they intended to donate half of the profits made from selling the eggs to help Varrock's poorest.[12]
The couple and the adventurer crossed paths once more the following year, with Annette having kept tabs on them.[13] After catching up for a bit, Annette left for Falador to allegedly fence a golden lawn gnome stolen from Duke Horacio.[14] Once Annette was gone, Caelyn asked the adventurer to help her steal a heart-shaped ruby from the Varrock Museum as an anniversary gift for Annette.[15] However, it turned out the ruby was fake and that it was Annette who donated it to the museum in the first place, knowing that Caelyn would try to steal it. She caught the duo during the act and revealed the ploy was her own gift to Caelyn as a way to get her out of her rut.[16] The trio was then found by Curator Haig Halen and two museum guards, but they managed to escape with the help of smoke bombs. Once they returned to their home, Annette and Caelyn decided to cash in the chronotes Annette received in exchange for the ruby and began discussing how to use the money before thanking the adventurer for their help.[17]
One day, Annette received a letter from her father, who wanted to visit her.[18] Annette's father also mentioned how he saw her run off with Caelyn, that he knew about their marriage and that he wanted to meet Caelyn.[19] Annette was unsure if them meeting would be a good idea, especially concerning her mother, but eventually decided to give her parents a chance, hoping that at the very least they would see that she was happy.[20]

Luckily, our favourite thief has a plan - she needs you to help her infiltrate a fancy gala at the Varrock Museum and, ahem, 'appropriate' a massive heart-shaped ruby from right under everyone's noses. What could go wrong?
