The cape will store up to a maximum of 2,000 charges, after which butterfly jars will not charge the cape until the stored charges are used. If the cape is destroyed while it contains charges, it will retain those charges when reclaimed from Diango.
There is a confirmation prompt about the cape being capable of releasing one charge per day when charging the cape with the butterfly jars that can be toggled off permanently.
