The red onion is a mega produce version of the onion. It is grown using regular onion seeds in allotment patches. Once the patch is fully grown, players can harvest red onions by first consuming a potion of harvest. Once it is active, red onions can be harvested.

Red onions are used in the preparation of a primal main course, which is a component of the primal feast, alongside raw malletops meat, raw pavosaurus rex meat and an heirloom tomato. Preparing a primal main course requires 99 Cooking.
