A raw potato is a vegetable harvested from a potato plant grown from a potato seed in an allotment patch, requiring level 1 Farming. A minimum of three potatoes are harvested at a time.
Raw potatoes can be stored in a sack. Up to ten raw potatoes can be stored in each sack, and players can store raw potatoes within multiple sacks.
Raw potatoes are required for crafting baked potatoes, stews, admiral pies, and fish pies.
Potatoes can be harvested from potato plants grown within an allotment patch. A fully grown potato plant will yield a minimum of three potatoes at harvest. Each potato, when picked, gives 9 Farming experience.
Harvest yields for potato plants are determined by a "harvest lives" system. Each potato plant begins with 3 lives. Additional lives are added with the use of compost (+1 life), supercompost (+2 lives) and ultracompost (+3 lives). Every harvest action will roll a chance out of 255 on the specific patch's "Chance to Save", taking one of the harvest lives from the patch if it does not hit; the patch will be cleared when it runs out of lives. The "Chance to Save" is dependent on the player's Farming level.

- Raw potatoes cannot be eaten anymore after the Troll Warzone update. They were renamed from simply "potato" after the update.
- Before the update, if a player attempted to cook a potato on a fire or at the sulphur pit, the potatoes would always burn regardless of Cooking level, resulting in a burnt potato. Attempting to cook a potato with these methods now gives the message "You can't cook that in a fire."
- However, it can still be fed to the starving adventurers in the Temple Trekking minigame, as well as Cyrisus in the Dream Mentor quest.
