Training Outline
[edit | edit source]The following table summarizes the optimal experience methods for Necromancy. Undead are suggested for most tasks, because of various damage-boosting effects against them. At every 10th level, players should always complete Kili's task and craft the highest tier death guard and skull lantern that are available to them.
| Level | Method | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1-5 | Complete the Necromancy! quest | Start next to Draynor lodestone |
| 5-60 | Rituals and Combat | Perform Lesser communion rituals until 50 souls. Perform 3 lesser necroplasm rituals for enough regular ink to make 14 lesser ensouled bars (for weapon upgrades up to level 50). Train via combat until level 20; afterwards, complete the Kili Row quest. Ensoul all 14 bars to prepare for future weapon upgrades. Continue training via combat until level 24 for the Rune Mythos quest. Afterwards, continue training via combat until level 60. Upgrade weapons every 10th level. |
| 60-90 | Rituals and Combat | Perform Lesser and greater necroplasm rituals to create a stock of regular and greater ink. Once you have regular and greater ink, necromancy potion/overload potion boost to level 66 necromancy in order to use the Multiply II glyph. Using multiple Multiply II glyphs, perform communion rituals until 4,500 souls. Afterwards, perform lesser ensoul and ensoul rituals until you have enough materials to upgrade to level 60 armour/weapons. Continue training via combat until level 65 for the The Spirit of War quest. Afterwards, continue training via combat until level 90. Upgrading your weapons every 10th level. Save the hermodic plates you obtain from Hermod, the Spirit of War and do not upgrade your armour past level 70 until you have reached at least level 90 Necromancy and can boost to 103. |
| 90-120 | Rituals and Combat | Perform necroplasm rituals to create a stock of regular, greater, and powerful ink. Once you have obtained the ink, necromancy potion/overload potion boost to level 103 necromancy in order to use the Multiply III glyph. Using multiple Multiply III glyphs, perform communion rituals until 35,000 souls. Perform greater ensoul rituals to convert your subjugation pieces into greater ensouled cloths while using multiple Multiply III glyphs, this will allow you to obtain 4 cloths for every 1 piece of subjugation armour (before level 99), and 5 cloths for every 1 piece (after level 99, using the Necromancy Cape perk as an additional Multiply glyph). Upgrade your armour to level 90 with your previously obtained hermodic plates. Continue training via Combat or Rituals. If performing Rituals, maintain at least 501% soul attraction on powerful rituals (no lower-tier rituals) for maximum XP |
Material Acquisition
[edit | edit source]The following table will give suggestions on how to gain ritual components and combat resources.
| Item | Method |
|---|---|
| Ashes | Ashes can be obtained through various means. The most popular method is either the abyss with the Underworld Grimoire equipped from the Underworld achievements or The Haunted Mine mushroom method. A great high level alternative is Chest (City of Um). This method will provide you with Bucket of slime and ashes as well as various other supplies, but requires 112 Thieving. |
| Bucket of slime | Buckets of slime can be obtained via the Ectofuntus, claiming daily buckets from the Morytania achievements, or by doing the aforementioned method of thieving from chests. Buckets of slime are required for high level rituals for creating Ectoplasm. |
| Ectoplasm | Obtaining Ectoplasm has been made relatively easier thanks to the inclusion of it as drops both from chests in the City of Um and the Vault of Hereditas heist. On average player can expect somewhere between 300-1000 Ectoplasm per hour doing the above method. |
| Pure essence | Pure essence is dropped by a variety of monsters, notable sources are Abyssal creatures and pick pocketing Wizards' Tower mage or Wizards' Tower master mage for large quantities of pure essence. Players who choose the thieving method also will get large quantities of talismans good for Summoning and Manufactured components for Invention, as well as a large variety of runes. Pure essence is used in the creation of Impure Essence. |
| Impure essence | Players can obtain Impure essence from doing rituals at the Um ritual site or Ungael ritual site. A high level alternative method that can be done for a decent amount of impure essence and necromatic runes is Chest (Rasial's Citadel) provided the player has 119 Thieving. |
Suggested Enemies for Combat Training
[edit | edit source]From level 5, players should train Necromancy in the troll cave located in the City of Um. The area features numerous low-level trolls, and serves as a good area to learn the skill and start unlocking further abilities. Focus on Area of Effect (AoE) abilities whenever possible.
| Monster | Location | Life points | Experience | Notes | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ghostly troll bruiser Ghostly troll thrower |
7 | 1,800 | 90 |
| ||
It is possible to deal high damage to undead creatures through a combination of damage-boosting effects:
- Salve amulet (e)
- Aggression flask
- Ghost hunter equipment
- Undead Slayer perk on a piece of augmentable hybrid armour (e.g. Anima core of Sliske armour, High Armour of Hanto cuirass, or Akrisae's robe top)
| Level | Monster |
|---|---|
| 10-20 | Crawling hands, Ghosts in Taverley dungeon. |
| 20-70 | Skeletons in Lumbridge Catacombs (focus on AoE abilities) |
| 30-60 | Banshees, Fetid zombies, Flesh crawlers, Ghosts. |
| 50-70 | Ankous, Shadow warriors, Jungle horrors, Shades, Ghouls |
| 70-80 | Bound skeletons, Armoured zombies |
| 80-90 | Bound skeletons, Abyssal demons, Abyssal savages, Edimmu |
| 90-120 | Armoured phantoms, Abyssal demons, Abyssal savages, Abyssal beasts, The Shadow Reef Bridge Runs |
At level 70, players can do combat training in the Abyss. The south-west and south-east corners are best for unobstructed area-of-effect ability casting. It is recommended to take at least level 70 Deathwarden robe armour (tank) or Deathdealer robe armour (power). To make the trips more efficient, consider using:
- Underworld Grimoire 1 to transport ashes to the bank for free, for use in crafting ritual materials like necroplasm later. Abyss monsters drop ashes in abundance.
- Alternatively, magic notepaper and sign of porters can be used.
- A method of leeching health, such as blood amulet of fury, or the Vampyrism aura (unlocked for free for Group Ironmen) for longer sustain.
Thalmund's Wares
[edit | edit source]Every week on Wednesday at reset Thalmund will appear in the City of Um next to Kili, offering a selection of goods that are used in necromancy. It is recommend players check the stock every week in order to grab hard to obtain items like Greater ensouled cloth, Powerful ghostly ink, Impure essence, and Uncut moonstone. This will help save players a lot of time in the future having to obtain these goods, if the stock is bought each week early on in account progression.

Kili's tasks
[edit | edit source]Kili assigns the player tasks at each tier. The tasks only have a Necromancy level requirement; the player doesn't need to have the previous tasks completed to unlock the ability to upgrade the equipment from the previous tier. However, to receive the previous tier equipment without trading, the player needs to complete the corresponding task. An equipment upgrade task list will given to the player that lists different requirements for each tier. The required Necromancy level is not boostable.
Cancelling a task does not automatically remove the required items from the bank; players are free to cancel a task and return to finish it later.
Completing tasks for either deathwarden or deathdealer robe armour will automatically unlock the relevant tier upgrades for Death Skull equipment.
The player must carry the soul urn in their backpack to gather the souls required by the tasks.

- ^ Only the original six brothers are needed. You will need to backtrack for the brother that leads to the tunnels, then loot the chest once all six individual necroplasms are obtained. You may need your upgrade equipment task list in your backpack when looting the chest for all the necroplasm to be combined.
- ^ Kill each boss then use the uncharged hammer on their respective altars.
- ^ Must be TzTok-Jad, fought at the last wave of the TzHaar Fight Cave.
