The giant mole (Talpidae wysonian) is a female mole found in the Falador Mole Lair, just under Falador Park. While moles do not normally grow to such sizes naturally, they can do so when they ingest growth potions. During the Second Age, many giant moles existed as a result of the Zarosian Empire's experiments with agricultural potions. They were rendered mostly extinct, but a new giant mole appeared in the Fifth Age following "a slight accident involving a bottle of Malignius Mortifer's-Super-Ultra-Flora-Growth-Potion" used by Wyson the gardener.
To get into its lair you have to crawl down the plant roots in the west of Falador Park, and create an instance or join an existing one. You have the option to fight the mole in hard mode, in which she will use her special attacks more frequently.
If a player is killed by the giant mole, their gravestone will appear outside her lair in Falador Park.
After fighting the mole, it is decided if a rare unique item will be dropped, and what that item is, before attributing it to a player. The odds of any rare item dropping at all are 1/10. After it is determined that a rare item will drop, which specific item is to be dropped is determined using a 52-slot table. This rare item is then distributed to one of the top three players, or to the single player if fighting the mole solo.[1] All of the mole's special drops (clingy moles, numbing roots, dragon 2h swords, and ultra-growth potions) are tertiary drops. Whenever someone receives a special drop from the mole, it will be announced in the message box.
The drop mechanics for the mole function differently in a group than when fought solo. Namely, the player to deal the most damage will always receive big bones and a mole claw; the three players to deal the most damage will receive three mole skins, distributed equally (if the group is two players, there is a random chance for either player to receive two, and the other will receive one), all players who have completed the elite Falador achievement set will receive a mole nose, and players doing the Fur 'n Seek wishlist will sometimes receive long, sharp claws. Finally, if a rare item is dropped, the remaining drops will be distributed among the players who didn't receive it.
In hard mode, rare unique drops are more common, some items are dropped in larger quantities, and only one item is dropped at a time.[clarification needed]
^ abcThere is a 1/10 chance to roll onto the mole's rare uniques table. The rates listed are the overall rate for each specific item, including the 1/10 chance to receive any rare unique item at all. The drop rates of rare items depends on if players are on free-to-play worlds and if fighting in hard mode.
^This drop only attempts to roll should you fail to roll a hard clue, should you get this item, there's a 1% chance it'll be upgraded to a sealed clue scroll (master).
^Base drop rate of 1/2,500, with a threshold of 500. Maximum rate is 1/250, reached at 4500 kills.

King Black Dragon and Giant Mole now have boss health bars during their encounters. The Giant Mole health bar will display after its tutorial is completed.
The Elite Tasks reward listing for Falador now states the amended rewards, following the Giant Mole rework.
The butterfly that is part of the Guthix's Blessing ability now will follow players through shortcuts in the Giant Mole lair. As a result, the healing effect is no longer cut short.
The Giant Mole received a graphical and mechanical update on 27 January2014. The same update also reduced the cavern size by half. Details about the mole before her update can be found here.
Sometimes, a glitch can occur where the giant mole may stay in one room for two phases rather than constantly moving around as her life points deplete. This only occurs when she first tunnels away to the first cavern.
The giant mole was made available to free-to-play players on 29 February2016. The same update also removed the shortcut areas in the cavern into gaps wide enough for players to run through.
As of 1 February2018, the highest kill count for this boss was 2,775 kills for normal mode and 2,670 for hard mode.[3]
This had increased to 5,000 for normal mode and 5,130 for hard mode by 13 December2018.[4]
The giant mole's scientific name, Talpidae wysonian, is a reference to the real life Talpidae family of moles.
The giant mole's carcass serves as the mining node for the Croesus boss encounter.
