Assault is a channelled threshold Strength ability. It requires level 55 Strength to use. When activated, the player will proceed to hit their target four times, hitting one hit every 1.2 second with each hit capable of 43.8-219% ability damage.
Despite the tooltip stating Assault takes 5.4 seconds (or 9 ticks) to fully execute, the earliest an ability can be cast after all 4 hits of Assault is 4.2 seconds (or 7 ticks) after the cast of Assault; the final hit will land on either tick 8 or 9, depending on the weapons used.
Assault can be cancelled between hits, shortening it's duration by 1.2 seconds (2 ticks) but retaining the final hit despite being cancelled early. This allows for a 2 hit Assault in 3 ticks (global cooldown), a 3 hit Assault in 5 ticks, and all 4 hits in 7 ticks.
Despite different hit timings for dual-wield and two-handed weapons, all 4 hits will land if cancelled with 1.2s remaining on the buff bar, no matter the weapon used.
When dual-wield cancelling Assault, as long as the hit appears, an ability may be used between the two hits.
When using a two-handed weapon to cancel Assault, the ability needs to be performed just as the player lifts their weapon from the "slam" (one tick after the third hit); otherwise, the fourth hit does not occur.
Assuming that assault is cast on tick 0, the hits land on different ticks if cast using either a two-handed weapon or dual-wield weapons.
