A cracked sample is found whilst digging or searching the chests in the building south of the Varrock Dig Site. The item is worthless and serves no purpose, so it is safe to drop. If you use it on a Rock pick, it will disintegrate. However, if you haven't yet finished your certification exam, nothing interesting happens.
