Chemical compound is a members-only quest item. It is used in the The Dig Site quest to blow up bricks blocking the path below the Varrock Dig Site. It is used with bricks and is lit with a tinderbox.
To make the chemical compound, players must obtain nitroglycerine, and then add ammonium nitrate, ground charcoal and arcenia root in that order (requires Herblore level 10). Every step must be done manually and one by one (adding arcenia root additionally has one line of dialogue that must be clicked through). Making a chemical compound gives 7 Herblore experience.
People with Dharok's occasionally drop this as Dharok's hits harder if the player wearing it has low health. Dropping this item will inflict up to 650 damage on the player followed by said player exclaiming "Ow! That really hurt!".

Update history[edit | edit source]
- patch 20 May 2019 (Update):.
- The components of the chemical compound used in the quest can now all be found in the caves to better make use of this area.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- An update sometime in 2009 changed the way these items work, as a continuous drop of self-damaging items can no longer lead to self-inflicted death; The player will always remain with at least 20-30 life points.
- The ingredient ammonium nitrate requires you to open the panning area chest with the Chest key (The Dig Site), which cannot be obtained after the quest. If you have not kept the key, you can ask another person with the key to open the chest for you.
