A player mining with a dwarven ramhammer

A dwarven ramhammer is an item obtained from dwarven toolboxes that were available on Treasure Hunter from 17 April 2015 00:00 UTC to 20 April 2015 23:59 UTC and from inactive versions available after 13 July 2016 00:00 UTC.

It can be used to gain double the amount of damage with no experience gained or it can be used to double the amount of experience with no ores gained. It starts with 100 charges and loses one charge every mining "swing".

While the dwarven tool animation will take priority over the normal pickaxe animation, the stats of the underlying pickaxe (including perks) will be used, determined as normal. Augmented pickaxes will gain xp and drain charge as normal. This is because the ramhammer is not actually a pickaxe and has no stats of its own, but rather modifies the use of an existing pickaxe.

Its effect does not work on mineral deposits, the Clan Citadel mining plot, idol crablets, or divine rock locations, but it does work on Shooting Stars for double experience. Trying to double the damage on Shooting Stars will consume charges, but will not increase the amount of stardust received.

New mining urns can be started in either mode of operation; however, they will not fill while in resource mode. While using the ramhammer in XP mode, the active urn will fill at twice its normal rate. If the inventory is currently full, the ramhammer can still be used, but only in double XP mode.

During certain bonus experience events (such as Double XP), the dwarven ramhammer cannot be used, with the exception of Shooting Stars. Even if the item is in the player's inventory, it will not activate in either XP mode or Resource mode, and charges will not be used. They work in combination with knowledge bombs.

If more than one dwarven ramhammer is in the player's inventory when used, all the charges will accumulate into a single ramhammer.

Update history

[edit | edit source]
This information has been compiled as part of the update history project. Some updates may not be included – see here for how to help out!
  • patch 29 September 2025 (Update):
    • The Dwarven Ramhammer animation now doesn't show if the player is using crystallise or Paradox to signify that it doesn't provide any benefits.
  • patch 7 July 2025 (Update):
    • When mining ore using Crystallise with the dwarven ramhammer set to damage mode, XP is gained and the charges for the ramhammer are not used.
  • hotfix 23 September 2024 (Update):
    • The dwarven ramhammer can no longer be used in the Gate of Elidinis encounter, as intended.[1]
      • Stopped the Dwarven Ramhammer from functioning with Gate of Elidinis nodes to avoid unintended interactions.
  • patch 19 July 2021 (Update):
    • You will now receive a warning message when attempting to use a dwarven tool in resource mode on a divine location while the 'Shared Knowledge' buff is active. Previously, the buffs would wipe each other out and players would lose both benefits while still consuming tool charges.
  • patch 16 September 2019 (Update):
    • Dwarven tools with 1 charge left now correctly use the plural 'charges' when checking charges.
  • hotfix 12 September 2016 (Update):
    • Dwarven ramhammers once again award double XP when in XP mode.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Mining concentrated coal/gold rocks in the living rock caverns, with the dwarven ramhammer set to double xp and having a sign of the porter equipped, claims that the ore mined has been sent to the player's bank. However, no ore is actually received.
  • In the past, ramhammers did not work properly with stone spirits from a Perfect juju mining potion or Perfect plus potion (a charge would be used but only one bar would be received). This has since been fixed, and players now properly receive two bars in their bank.
  • While mining ores that have a chance of obtaining gems, you may still obtain the gem in double xp mode.
  • While this does not work on Idol crablets, it would still use up a charge when set to double loot.
  • Does not work when used with the illumination aura, the aura takes priority over ramhammer, charges are not used.
  • Prior to the Mining and Smithing rework, resource mode would grant double ores on successful swings. This was changed to instead grant double damage when mining ores.
