A rat is one of the pets in Betty's dungeon during the Swept Away quest. It and the other pets form part of a puzzle that must be completed in order to obtain the magic unguent, which involves moving them all to their correct cages. In the rats case, the correct cage contains cheese.

It serves the same purpose during the Purple Cat miniquest.
