The scrying orb is an item used in the Enter the Abyss miniquest, given by the mage located in the south-east section of Varrock, in the Zamorak church. This item has a one time use for the sole purpose of this miniquest and is henceforth never used.

The scrying orb needs to be filled with magic energy by teleporting to the Rune Essence mine. Having the orb in the player's inventory while being teleported to the rune essence mine will partially fill it, while teleporting from 3 different locations to the rune essence mine will fill the orb entirely, making a full scrying orb. Once players give the orb back to the mage, they never use the orb again.

There is no indication on the inventory that shows that there is magical energy inside the orb unless you have been to at least 3 locations to teleport to the Rune Essence mines and the orb has been filled.

Using Carwen Essencebinder to teleport to the mines will NOT count as one of the 3 teleport locations.

Trivia

• If you have multiple scrying orbs with 2 charges in your backpack and is teleported to the mine at the third location, all of them would be replaced with only a single full scrying orb.
• If you have unfinished scrying orbs in your backpack, they are also removed when the mage takes the full orb.
