The golden scarab is a non-player character device that leads the player, accompanied by Leela and Coenus, through the Kharidian Desert. It is activated by using the "release" option on the golden scarab item just outside the gates of Menaphos. The scarab will give general directions before flying off in a cardinal direction and then disappear, where players must continue onwards to follow it again until they reach the Scabarite Cavern. There it will become uninteractable and stay near the broken boat until players repair it, at which point it guides the boat in a dialogue-only cutscene to the Temple of Isolation.
