Balloon animals were encountered during the prison random event. Players pulled the lever besides the barriers to get an image of the balloon animal that they are supposed to pop. Players then popped at the least three of these to obtain the prison keys inside them. In this random event you did not get an emote nor a costume.
The varying characteristics between each balloon animal could be easily distinguished from their horns, body width, and tail length.
Currently, pet versions of these balloon animals can be obtained as a possible reward from popping party balloons in the Party Room:

Trivia
[edit | edit source]- On 25 May 2011 the size of the balloon animals was increased drastically, to make them easier to see and click.
- At RuneFest 2011, several Jagex Moderators spawned balloon animals at the Grand Exchange as part of a demonstration of how the rotten potato works.
- After the removal of random events on 24 October 2012, they occasionally appear in the Port Sarim jail tormenting Prison Pete.
