Urns are scenery found within the Jalsavrah Pyramid as part of the Pyramid Plunder minigame. They can be searched to receive artefacts and Thieving experience. The Menaphyrite gem may be obtained rarely while looting urns. Urns in higher-numbered rooms grant more experience and better quality loot. Each room inside Jalsavrah has 13 urns, with the exception of room 3 which only has 12 urns.

Unless charmed, the player may be bitten by snakes within the urns, poisoning them. The chance of being bitten increases in higher-numbered rooms, but decreases with higher Thieving levels. Players can opt to check the urns for snakes. On successful checks, player will find a snake inside the urn. They can then charm the snakes using a snake charm to ensure that they will have higher chance of not getting bitten.

Searching and checking urns rewards the player with Thieving experience, but charming snakes does not. If charming snakes, experience awarded from successfully looting an artefact will be reduced by 33%.

Charming snakes

[edit | edit source]

When searching an urn, a snake can appear that will attack the player. Players can use a snake charm to reduce this possibility:

  1. Choose the "Check for snakes" option on the closed urn.
  2. Choose the "Charm snake" option.
  3. Search the urn while the snake is charmed.

Due to the high failure rate of the urns at lower levels, charming the snakes is on average faster than searching the urn. However after roughly level 50 it becomes faster to search the urns without checking for snakes.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • The examine text "Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?" is a reference to the line spoken by Indiana Jones in the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark.
