Given its steep rocky mountains, evergreen trees, mines, and population of grizzly bears, Highweald Forest appears to be modelled on the mountainous redwood forests found along the western coast of the United States, particularly the Sierra Nevada range in the state of California, where the 1848 California Gold Rush originated.
