A coal rock is a rock that contains coal. Players with a Mining level of 20 can mine coal rocks with a pickaxe. Coal rocks can be found in numerous mines throughout RuneScape.

On occasion the rock may give a sedimentary geode or igneous geode.

Coal is used in combination with ores such as iron or mithril to smelt bars in a furnace to create armour and weapons with Smithing. Coal may also be used to heat a smithing auto-heater to keep your heat when smithing.

The forge and anvil extremely close to the Gunnarsgrunn mine make it a great spot for depositing coal into your metal bank. The Lumbridge south-west mine is quite close to the bank at Shattered Worlds (members only). Having an ore box can help reduce the amount of trips to the bank.
