Zamorak, Lord of Chaos[1] is an ascended Mahjarrat and the final boss of The Zamorakian Undercity. Following the events of the Elder God Wars and his absorption of the Eye of Het's powers, he has fortified himself beneath the Wilderness inside the Vestibule of Futility where he has been opening portals to allow demons from Infernus to travel to Gielinor to aid his bidding in subduing the many human-governed cities.

With help from the Guardians of Guthix, the World Guardian has learned how to cast the Edicts of Guthix and intends to infiltrate Zamorak's fortress to cast them for a second time, aiming to banish all major gods from Gielinor once more.

Rewards from the encounter include a codex to unlock the Chaos Roar melee ability, the vestments of havoc set (a tier 95 melee power armour with passive effects), codices to upgrade Sunshine and Death's Swiftness into their greater variants, and components to create the Bow of the Last Guardian, a tier 95 longbow.[2]

Unlike the other final elite dungeon bosses, Zamorak can be immediately accessed upon completing the Conqueror of Chaos achievement, which requires 25 clears of The Zamorakian Undercity or 250% enrage, whichever comes first. The Zamorak encounter also utilises the enrage system, but unlike Telos, the Warden and the Arch-Glacor, Zamorak's enrage caps at 60,000%. However, his health is limited much like Telos' is at a specific enrage.[1] The kill streaking mechanic is not available at Zamorak.

Obtaining all unique rewards from Zamorak completes the Been There, Done That, Got the Z-shirt achievement which awards the title, Godslayer [Name].

Strategies[edit | edit source]

Before the encounter, Zamorak is surrounded by six chaos witch channelers that work to corrupt the runes. Once the last channeler is killed, Zamorak will engage the team.

Much like Telos, the Warden, Zamorak utilises the enrage system. The player(s) will progress through six phases, each of which - upon successful completion of the phase - involve Zamorak and the player increasing their combat capabilities (in the form of buffs/debuffs/mechanics) by activating and uncorrupting a rune. In an encounter of 100% or greater, the fight is extended an additional phase, the last of which involves mechanics from four of the six runes and also reverses the activation order in the first six phases.

The life points during phase 1-6 have an unknown cap, while phase 7 caps at 250,000 health per player at the start of the fight at 1000% enrage. Many of Zamorak's mechanics start to get modified starting at 500% enrage, with new modifications at 750%, 900%, 1000%, 1500% and 1600% enrage.

Drops[edit | edit source]

Upon Zamorak's defeat, a chest called the World Guardian's treasure appears by the Sword of Edicts for players to collect their rewards from. The rewards are rolled as soon as the chest is opened, with multiple rolls made. In enrage mode, the number of rolls increases with enrage. Rewards can be rerolled with a chaos die reroll token, generating a new chest of rewards, as long as none of the items were taken. This can only be done once per completed encounter and can potentially reroll into a signature drop. The chest can be right-clicked to access the bank.

Completing the Zamorakian Undercity in its entirety will slightly increase the value of total rewards alongside increasing the chances of a signature drop.

If the player dies as the fight ends, or if they exit the dungeon instance for any reason after defeating Zamorak, they are able to collect their loot from the treasure chest outside of The Zamorakian Undercity entrance by right-clicking the chest and selecting "Collect boss loot".

If a player has been chosen to receive a signature drop, an animation of green particles will surround their character. Whether the player receives a signature drop is decided as the fight ends, with the specific reward rolled upon opening the chest.

Story mode[edit | edit source]

Rewards in story mode are reduced in quantity compared to normal mode and enrage mode.

Normal mode[edit | edit source]

Enrage mode[edit | edit source]

Signature drops[edit | edit source]

Signature rewards can be obtained in all modes, with a significantly reduced chance in story mode. Only one of these items can be rolled per person, per kill.

  1. ^ a b c d e f g h i The drop rate depends on whether story, normal or enrage mode was completed. In enrage mode, the drop rate is also determined by the amount of new/modified mechanic(s) and enrage defeated in. When a signature drop is not rolled, a "point" is given; after enough "points" are accumulated, they are converted into a drop rate increase. This presumably resets after any drop is rolled.

Tertiary drops[edit | edit source]

  1. ^ Cannot be obtained in story mode.

Update history[edit | edit source]

This information has been compiled as part of the update history project. Some updates may not be included - see here for how to help out!
  • patch 8 August 2022 (Update):
    • Made several changes to Zamorak:
      • Rare drop chance increased with higher enrage, along with the chance of it being a bow piece.
      • Fixed an issue where Zamorak's world-ending attack could potentially miss.
      • Completing the encounter at 2000% enrage now unlocks the Chaos Witch master outfit instead of the adept version.
    • Log completion should now broadcast correctly.
  • ninja 18 July 2022 (Update):
    • Adjusted Zamorak's common drop table:
      • The value of Zamorak's common drops were reduced, which is increased if the Elite Dungeon was fully completed.[source needed]
      • Sirenic scales have been replaced with blood runes.
    • Adjusted the weighting of rares on Zamorak's drop table:
    • Players will now be awarded more common loot and higher chances at rare drops for Zamorak when running the Elite Dungeon.
    • Following feedback, changes have been made to the way group enrage works for The Zamorakian Undercity encounter:
      • Enrage is now shared between groups of 2-5 players, meaning your highest Enrage will be applied to every group size.
      • Messaging has been updated at the end of a Zamorak, Lord of Chaos encounter to clearly state the highest enrage you have achieved.
      • Solo enrage is tracked separately and remains unchanged.
      • When you next log in, your enrages from groups of 2-5 will be looked at by the system and the highest amount will be taken. A chatbox message will appear to inform you of this.
    • During the Zamorak, Lord of Chaos fight, if you are within Infernus, you will now hear Zamorak's voice over:
      • If you are in a solo encounter, you will hear the voice over from the Decimate attack.
      • If you are in a group encounter, you'll hear all of the voice over whilst inside Infernus.
    • To avoid any confusion when trying to enter a Zamorakian Undercity Elite Dungeon with loot to claim, the following change has been made:
      • A new interface will appear when clicking the chest, allowing players to choose between collecting dungeon loot or boss loot.
    • Following feedback, the amount of Soul Reaper kills given out for a Zamorak, Lord of Chaos task has been brought in-line with other Elite Dungeon boss tasks.
      • Reduced Soul Reaper task of 1-4 (2-8 extended) to 1-3 (2-6 extended).
    • If you have Freedom Mode unlocked for The Zamorakian Undercity, using the Zamorak teleport will now place you directly inside the arena, rather than outside the portal.
      • If the boss fight has already started, you will not be able to teleport into the arena.
    • Added a quick chat option for Zamorak kills and highest enrage.
    • During the Infernal Tomb mechanic in the Zamorak, Lord of Chaos fight, the Chaos Demon will now spawn in facing east (towards the portal), rather than south.
    • Fixed an issue that would cause Zamorak to appear in an incorrect location during phase seven of the Zamorak, Lord of Chaos boss fight.
    • The Inner Chaos buff is now cleared after killing Zamorak and teleporting away from the boss arena.
    • Whilst in Infernus during the Zamorakian Undercity Elite Dungeon, the 'escape' option on the portals didn't actually do anything! Now, you will be able to leave the dungeon completely, as intended.
    • Zamorak, Lord of Chaos is now correctly displayed on the grim gem.
    • Signature drop animation changed from red flames on character to green spores to be more visually seen, as the red flames blended with the arena's ground texture.
  • hotfix :
    • Fixed an issue where Zamorak's world-ending attack charge would reset in encounters of 1500%+ enrage.
  • hotfix 6 July 2022:
    • Fixed a rare issue where players could be hit with Zamorak’s world ending attack during phase 7 after teleporting out / dying.
    • Fixed an issue causing lower player attack range during phase 7, preventing some abilities from being used.
  • hotfix 4 July 2022:
    • Zamorak Enrage can now correctly be progressed beyond 20%.
    • Rare item drops from Zamorak will now correctly trigger broadcasts.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The group version of the Zamorak encounter was originally going to feature a "Revive Player" extra action button that would let players revive their teammates a limited number of times during the fight. This feature was cut before release due to balancing concerns.[3]
