Yak to the Light

Yak to the Light is a Yak Track event which lasts from 1 June 2021 to 11 July 2021. It features a track of tasks, with each task offering rewards when completed. The rewards are separated into two categories, free and premier. Players can unlock the access to premier rewards by having an active Premier Club membership or by purchasing a Yak Track Premier Pass for the price of two bonds.

Players who reached tier 40 in the previous Yak Track get a 50% progress boost for the first 10 tasks. You have gained a 50% progress boost to your [Next task name] task for reaching tier 40 in the previous Yak Track!

The event is promoted with event noticeboards.

Tasks[edit | edit source]

Upon logging in during the event, the Yak Track Task List appears in the players' backpack. This list can be read to access the event interface. The interface can also be opened through the Upgrades & Extras interface, Angof in Burthorpe, event noticeboards, or Activity Tracker once a task is pinned to it.

Players can complete either task to progress to the next tier.

Players can skip tiers by using task skips. Every player is provided with two task skips at the start of the event, and more can be purchased with bonds via the store. Unused skips carry over from the previous Yak Track events, and will likely carry to the next event.

Strategies[edit | edit source]

Skilling tasks[edit | edit source]

Agility[edit | edit source]

For fastest course disregarding experience rates, use Bandos Agility Course. A lap can be finished in approximately 33 seconds, and with good timing of Surge and Bladed Dive this can be cut down to 27 seconds.

Using the Hefin Agility Course in Prifddinas, a single lap takes around 50 seconds. Turn the camera to look east, place the mouse cursor at a specific location to the left of the character, and then click in the same spot in order to climb every single obstacle in the course. It might require some adjustments to find the right spot. On Microsoft Windows, Mouse Key can be enabled to control the mouse with a keypad, enabling you to press 5 on the number pad to click. Doing this removes the risk of moving the cursor and missing the exact spot.

Its also possible to do the Barbarian Outpost Agility Course or Gnome Stronghold Agility Course advanced courses. The combined need to do just over 250 laps means that you can acquire the agile legs or agile top a requirement for Fremennik achievements and trimmed completionist cape. Lap times are very close to Bandos Agility Course.

The Anachronia Agility Course awards progress upon each segment. While not the fastest way to complete the task it can be a good way to do so if one is looking for experience. With good use of Bladed Dive and Surge, a single lap can be done in under 7 minutes, leading to an average of one minute per segment.

With 27 seconds per lap, approximately 133 points per hour can be achieved.

Archaeology[edit | edit source]

Only base experience gained by excavating at dig sites and material caches, restoring artefacts, screening soil (including using the Sift Soil lunar spell), completing mysteries, adding pylon batteries at the Kharid-et Dig Site, and adding rex skeleton fragments at the Orthen Dig Site count for experience tasks.

Experience awarded for normal and special research expeditions or turning in complete tomes doesn't count. Using the auto-screener v1.080 to screen soil doesn't count.

At 120 Archaeology, approximately 402,296 base experience per hour can be achieved.

Archaeology (Excavation)[edit | edit source]

Approximately 500 materials can be excavated per hour.

Archaeology (Screening)[edit | edit source]

With master archaeologist's outfit each piece of soil takes 1.2 seconds to screen, so at most 3,000 points per hour can be achieved normally. Using the outfit together with the Sift Soil lunar spell causes each piece of soil takes 0.6 seconds to screen, so up to 5,600 points can be gained per hour.

Construction[edit | edit source]

Main article: Construction training

Only the base experience gained progresses the tasks.

Experience gained from constructing God Statues does not count towards the tasks.

Building with mahogany planks can yield approximately 600,000 experience per hour.

Cooking[edit | edit source]

This task counts the extra items created by modified sous chef's toque and portable ranges.

Having Brooch of the Gods equipped while using portable ranges will help speed this task up.

Fish that are caught and cooked with the Bait and Switch relic power active do not count for this task.

Fish takes 2.4 seconds each to cook, so at most 1,500 points per hour can be achieved.

Crafting[edit | edit source]

Main article: Crafting training

Only the base experience gained progresses the tasks.

Crafting black dragonhide shields can yield approximately 550,400 experience per hour.

Divination[edit | edit source]

Energies obtained from conversion of memories count towards task completion and can be done for faster tasks. The divine-o-matic also works, and it speeds up tasks as memories do not have to be converted or deposited.

Using the Divine Conversion relic and converting memories to energy speeds up the tasks considerably.

Approximately 12,000 energy can be harvested per hour.

Dungeoneering[edit | edit source]

Only the base experience gained progresses the tasks.

With an experienced team, over 1,000,000 experience per hour can be easily achieved.

Farming[edit | edit source]

The task counts the number of items gathered from patches, and not the number of harvesting actions; even if multiple items are yielded in a single harvesting action, the amount of progress points is calculated based on the items received. As a result, harvesting stinkshrooms and tombshrooms can often finish a task in a single harvest, especially with elite Morytania achievements completed.

Always have fully grown plants in all patches possible. A list can be found at here. Plant both in the Allotment/Flower/Herb patches list and the Herb-only patches list. Use a master farmer outfit to get more herbs from the patches. For more yield, treat patches with supercompost or ultracompost, have magic secateurs in the tool belt, drink juju farming potion and use greenfingers aura. The extra items from the aura and potion will count for the task. Supreme growth potions can be used if seeds have not been planted in advance. Items gathered via the farming cape perk do not count, so make sure to take the cape off before harvesting.

Using supreme growth potion (leafy), 2,000 items per hour can be achieved.

Fishing[edit | edit source]

The dwarven fish extractor set to double catch mode counts towards these tasks. Consuming fish with a fury shark outfit counts towards the task. A fishing cape can be used to occasionally catch another fish.

Baron sharks from perfect juju fishing potions do not count, so it is recommended to fish something else if drinking them.

The VIP skilling area area is likely faster and far less effort than catching sharks, despite the chance of also catching fish that don't count.

Catching fish from divine locations do work towards these tasks. However, if you have the Shared Knowledge perk from Memorial to Guthix active, it doesn't count towards Yak task progress.

Fish that are caught with the Bait and Switch relic active count for these tasks.

Fish duplicated by a waterfiend familiar do not count.

Additional catches provided by Deep Sea Fishing boosts will count towards the task.

At a high Fishing level, around 360 fish can be fished per hour.

Firemaking[edit | edit source]

Using a pitch can allows the player to burn logs extremely fast. Use an action bar setup where a log is lit on one key and a Beast of Burden item is withdrawn on another. Then use the attuned crystal teleport seed and teleport to the Trahaearn Clan district in Prifddinas. Create a line of fires from there, and teleport back.

The cheap alternative but slower method is using portable brazier.

Logs burnt via activation of the Pyromaniac perk count towards the task. Logs burnt using the Book of Char do not count.

Burning kindling at the bonfire after killing an Evil Tree counts towards the task, however using them to light the tree on fire does not.

Approximately 950 logs per hour can be burned.

Fletching[edit | edit source]

Stringing items on a portable fletcher speeds up the progress by 10%.

Approximately 2,800 bows per hour can be strung.

Herblore[edit | edit source]

Mixing potions with a portable well occasionally yields extra potions, thus making the tasks progress faster. As prices of materials and products fluctuate, using a calculator might be useful in selecting which potions to mix.

Approximately 2,750 actions per hour can be done.

Hunter[edit | edit source]

Main article: Hunter training

Only the base experience gained progresses the tasks. Hunter skill training dummy can provide lots of experience quickly. Using Protean Traps does count towards experience progress. The experience gained during Big Chinchompa also counts, though lamps bought from the reward shop do not.

Hunting ornate tortles can yield approximately 361,215 experience per hour.

Mining[edit | edit source]

Additional ores gathered by having the relevant bottled stone spirit in the inventory count towards the completion of the task.

Using the highest tier ore box you have reduce the amount of bank trips.

Coal can be mined extremely fast at the Living Rock Caverns from concentrated coal deposit. Use of an elite Mining outfit is recommended as it makes creatures in the caverns become passive. Alternatively an elite Fishing outfit can be used. To avoid banking, use a sign of the porter (optionally in a grace of the elves). To increase yield per rock, use coal stone spirit.

Optionally use perfect juju mining potion as well to keep stamina up. At least Varrock armour 1, easy (to avoid wearing the Varrock armour), and medium New Varrock achievements (to double chance) help as well.

The use of a grace of the elves acting as a sign of the porter allows longer trips without having to bank. In addition if you are a Premier Club member, the sign of the porter boost from the premier artefact banks half of what you collect straight to the metal bank.

Approximately 400 ore per hour can be mined.

Prayer[edit | edit source]

The bonecrusher counts for tasks that require bones to be buried. To save money, a player can therefore kill skeletons in Lumbridge Catacombs, blue dragons in the Taverley Dungeon, or similar. Players who use super antifire potions will not be hurt by steel dragons at all as they only use dragon fire at a distance. They can be found in Brimhaven Dungeon and Brimhaven Dungeon resource dungeon.

Another way to collect dragon bones is by killing Vindicta in the Heart of Gielinor. This boss commonly drops 150–250 noted dragon bones.

Cremation, offering bones at Ectofuntus, at the gilded altar and at the Chaos Temple in Wilderness count towards the task progression.

Offering ashes on a gilded altar or at the Ectofuntus works. Scattering the ashes using an attuned ectoplasmator or consuming the ashes using an infernal urn doesn't work.

The fastest way to complete this task is to stand at a bank, fill your inventory with the desired bones, and save that to a bank preset. Drag the bones to your action bar and select a key bind. Simply spam the key bind and when finished, quick withdraw from your bank with your bone preset.

Auto sanctifier can be used to gain increased experience using the above method. Dragon rider amulet is another alternative for dragon bones, though it does not stack with auto sanctifier.

Approximately 4,000 bones per hour can be crushed with bonecrusher.

Runecrafting[edit | edit source]

Main article: Runecrafting training

Note that only base Runecrafting experience counts towards the Runecrafting tasks. Unstable essence works for base experience.

At 99 Runecrafting, Runespan can yield around 93,000 experience per hour.

Slayer[edit | edit source]

Main article: Slayer training

Only base experience gained progresses the tasks. Slayer skill training dummy can provide lots of experience quickly. Corrupted scarabs in Menaphos provide easy non-combat slayer xp, which can be found fairly easy with dedicated friends chats.

At a high combat level, 547,200 experience per hour can be achieved.

Smelting[edit | edit source]

When managing to smelt an extra bar, the action yields two points of progress.

Smelting a bar takes 2.4 seconds, so at most 1,500 can be smelted per hour when not factoring in the extra bar chance. If using the Superheat Form curse the time per bar is reduced to 1.8 seconds and the amount of bars per hour is increased to 2,000 base.

Smithing[edit | edit source]

Main article: Smithing training

Experience gained from protean bars does count. Experience gained from repairing burst pipes in the Artisan's Workshop does count. Experience gained from urns does not count.

At a high Smithing level, over 1,000,000 experience per hour can be achieved.

Summoning[edit | edit source]

Around 2,700 pouches per hour can be made.

Thieving[edit | edit source]

If available, pickpocketing the elves in Prifddinas or rogues in wilderness Rogues' Castle provides a low-effort way to pickpocket relatively quickly. Similar effect can be achieved with other targets by using the Sticky Fingers relic power.

At a high Thieving level, around 2,438 NPCs per hour can be pickpocketed.

Woodcutting[edit | edit source]

Going to uncharted islands and cutting golden bamboo alternatively Acadia logs[1]which is faster and less intensive than cutting magic trees.

Using Superheat Form counts towards these tasks. This can remove the need for banking, which is especially useful when cutting lower level trees.

Gathering from divine locations does work towards these tasks. However, if you have the Shared Knowledge perk from Memorial to Guthix active, it doesn't count towards the task progress.

At a high Woodcutting level, around 360 bamboo per hour can be cut.

Other tasks[edit | edit source]

Clue Scrolls[edit | edit source]

Clue Scrolls tasks are completed by doing Treasure Trails. Players receive progress based on the level of trail completed. Easy trails provide 1 progress, medium trails provide 2 progress, hard trails provide 3 progress, elite trails provide 4 progress, and master trails provide 5 progress.

Despite the interface claiming that progress is gained upon completing scrolls, the whole trail must be completed before any progress is rewarded, and the progress is rewarded as above.

Kill Monsters[edit | edit source]

The monsters in Lumbridge Catacombs such as corpse spiders can be killed at an extremely fast rate using the smoke devil familiar with Dust Cloud scrolls. The lesser demon deacon familiar with the Ring of Fire scrolls can also be used to greatly increase kills per hour.

Alternatively, dagannoth within the Lighthouse can be quickly killed with area-of-effect weapons and abilities. Dagganoth are always aggressive regardless of combat level and have relatively lucrative seed drops. By using melee armour, a halberd-range weapon, a demon horn necklace, and the auto-collect function of the seedicide, both Prayer and combat tasks can be quickly completed without much effort while also making a modest profit. If aggression ceases, simply climb the southern ladder and exit through the western door, and run to the southernmost point of the room. Upon re-entering, the dagannoth in the area will be aggressive again. Similarly, though lower risk and lower reward, bandits at the Bandit Camp will never cease aggression if the player has a Saradomin or Zamorak item equipped. The best place to kill them is in the bar.

A fast alternative can also be killing the rabbits that spawn in Burthope. Nine rabbits spawn very near to each other, and can be killed quickly with a halberd-range weapon, laceration boots, and the repetitive use of Bladed Dive. Bladed Dive cooldown is reset when the target is killed thus leading to a fast, intense method.

You can also attempt to get champion's scroll if you have not already completed them, as they require killing weak enemies such as zombies that can be easily cannoned. This strategy also works for Prayer tasks as long as the enemy drops ashes or bones.

Another way to complete this task being of minimum intensity, albeit slower than active methods consisting of damaging multiple targers in one attack, is to kill monsters in Daemonheim solo, especifically the Skeletal Horde boss, leaving one tunnel open to cause an infinite spawn of skeletons that will always be aggressive. If auto-retaliation is on, the kills will be done automatically. It is recommended to turn public chat off as the Divine Skinweaver will constantly tell the player to close the tunnels and turn the game tab setting to "all" in order to follow the task's progress.

Around 4,000 monsters per hour can be killed.

Marks of War[edit | edit source]

Bosses in God Wars Dungeon and Heart of Gielinor may be killed for relatively quick Marks of War.

A maximum of 1,000 can be gained in an hour.

Play minigames[edit | edit source]

Points are rewarded based on thaler received. As such it is five times faster to play the games on minigame spotlight for thaler. Playing minigames that do not yield thaler doesn't count for this task.

There are only six minigames for free-to-play, and only three of them yield thaler: Fist of Guthix, The Great Orb Project, and Cabbage Facepunch Bonanza. Fist of Guthix and The Great Orb Project require multiple players, and there are almost never any players at either minigames. Therefore, Cabbage Facepunch Bonanza is often the only viable option. Thaler can be earned without actually playing, as the player only need to spend time in a game; if they do not wish to play, they could simply enter the waiting area, where they would be automatically transported into the arena where they would be eventually eliminated. This requires only a single click (to enter the waiting area) about every 105 seconds (even longer if there are other active players) to gain thaler requiring nearly no attention.

When playing the spotlit minigame, 60 thaler per hour can be earned.

Skill and Kill[edit | edit source]

For Skill and Kill tasks a point of progress is rewarded for the first skilling action performed or monster killed in three-minute intervals. The cooldown timer doesn't start from the time when you gain progress, so if you are not continuously performing actions eligible for progress, the time between two points can be shorter. For example, if intervals start at :03, :06, :09, :12, etc., then it is possible for points be gained at :05 and :06 since these times lie within unique 3-minute intervals.

Killing Rex Matriarchs doesn't count!

A maximum of 20 points per hour can be gained.

Seren Spirit Hunt[edit | edit source]

Similar to past Yak Track Present Hunt and past years Present Hide and Seek, this requires collecting Seren Spirits scattered across Gielinor using a Seren crystal. The locations change periodically, slightly past each hour, and only some of the locations listed below will have a spirit at any one time. The locations are not the same in different worlds. Each Seren Spirit Hunt task consists of collecting five Seren Spirits: Glowing Seren Spirit, Shining Seren Spirit, Sparkling Seren Spirit, Gleaming Seren Spirit, and Regular Old Seren Spirit (although each spirit physically appears as the Glowing Seren Spirit). The Seren crystal can be used to get clues towards the locations of each of these, and to obtain periodic messages about the player's proximity to the spirit once at the general location.

The spirits display a red dot on the minimap.

All clues are displayed in the format "The Crystal draws you towards [hint]."

Collecting a Seren Spirit gives a point of progress towards the task completion.

Traitor in our Midst[edit | edit source]

This task completes after a combined 20 Cadarn magi and Cadarn rangers have been killed while using the Cadarn Ranger armour full outfit cosmetic override, which is a reward for completing tier 20 of this Yak Track.

Wandering Yak[edit | edit source]

Interact with Roamin' Rains.

Yakstory[edit | edit source]

Talk to Angof in the Yak Track area in Burthorpe, just south-west of Challenge Mistress Fara. Exiting the dialogue after asking "What's your story?" will complete the task.
