Wilderness Flash Events are a members-only Distraction and Diversion released on 17 October 2022. In this D&D, players work with or against the factions in the Wilderness Civil War by participating in different short, hourly occurring flash events in various locations around the Wilderness. Some of the events involve only non-combat skilling, some only combat, and some a mix of both. Rewards include experience in the skill involved in the flash event and reward sacks that yield items when opened.

Information about the current or upcoming flash event may be obtained from Nikkel and Wandering Ramokee in Edgeville. As with other D&Ds, Wilderness Flash Events may be favourited through the Minigames interface to make it show in the reset timers of the game clock interface, and added to the Activity Tracker. Choosing the "teleport to lodestone" option teleports the player to the Edgeville lodestone.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Nikkel and Wandering Ramokee in Edgeville.

The flash events are broadcast five minutes before the event starts, at :55 each hour, and at the moment the event begins, at :00 each hour. Nikkel and Wandering Ramokee in Edgeville may be spoken to beforehand to learn where the next event will happen. Completing the achievement Far-Reaching and Wild-Ranging will allow the player to immediately arrive at the event location through a right-click "teleport" option on either NPC. The teleport has a 45-minute cooldown.

The events occur in a fixed sequence. As there are 13 different hourly events, this means that they stagger throughout the day in the players' local times. While the event start time is synchronised at the start for all worlds, completion or failure of the event can vary. Therefore, it is possible to hop worlds after clearing an event in one world and then clear the event in another world to obtain additional rewards.

The events' locations are fixed; each event always happens in the same location. The following map shows the location of all the events.

Each event has two targets: one personal target, and one collective event target. Both must be met within a five-minute time limit for participants to receive the full reward from the event. Achieving only the personal target yields a reduced experience reward. Failing to achieve the personal target results in no rewards, irrespective of the collective target. The personal target for many events scales inversely with the number of players participating in the event; the more players, the less each of them needs to contribute to the event. The collective event target usually scales directly; the more players, the more they collectively need to contribute.

In Unnatural Outcrop, strange ore is gathered from the unnatural outcrops. This event occurs by the Mage of Zamorak rather than at the actual source of the Lum north of the Wilderness Crater.

The strange ore must be handed in to the Zamorakian miner found in the area. In total ore must be personally handed in to succeed in the event, while ore handed in by all the players participating collectively in the event is required, where is the number of players involved. Both the personal and collective event progress scale according to the number of players participating in the event. The outcrops disappear after five minutes or when the collective event target has been met, after which the players still have 30 seconds to contribute any remaining ore. If the players contributed enough both personally and collectively, they are given a sack of wild rewards and Mining experience depending on their level in the skill.

Its description in the Minigames interface is "Gather ore from the strange outcrop."

In Butterfly Swarm, a swarm of butterflies spawns near the obelisk south-east of the Wilderness Crater lodestone.

Player must catch the magical butterflies and avoid the poisonous ones; if you catch the poisonous ones (they're a different colour) they'll sting you, dealing one big hit of poison damage. Players have a maximum of five minutes to catch the butterflies and give them to the demon hunter in the area. Each player must give at least butterflies while the players collectively must hand in butterflies, where is the number of players involved. These numbers scale depending on the number of players participating in the event. The butterflies leave either after five minutes or when the collective event progress has been met, whichever happens first. After the butterflies have left, players still have 30 seconds to hand any remaining ones in before the event ends. In the special event King Black Dragon Rampage, players must kill the King Black Dragon. The event occurs south-west of the Daemonheim castle, north of the waterfiends.

The King Black Dragon spawns with a freezing black dragon, a poison black dragon, and a shocking black dragon, and is immune to damage while any of these are alive. Furthermore, the King Black Dragon can spawn spires in the area which protect all the dragons from damage. The spires must first be destroyed by attacking them, and then the minions killed before finally killing the King Black Dragon. All the dragons in the area are capable of dealing significant damage.

Each player participating in the event must deal at least 35,000 damage to the King Black Dragon for the event to be considered successful, depending on the number of players participating in the event. The event ends in failure after five minutes have passed, or if the King Black Dragon dies before the player has dealt the required amount of damage. Succeeding in the event yields a combat XP lamp, a sack of wild rewards, and a sack of very wild rewards.

The event's description in the Minigames interface is "Stop the King Black Dragon!"

In Surprising Seedlings, four seedlings spawn on the ground around the pond. Players must nurture them to make them grow into strange flower sprouts, and finally into poisonous hollyhock, Wilderness iris, and Wilderness rose bushes. Players must then harvest the iris and rose bushes to obtain Wilderness irises and Wilderness roses, while attempting to harvest the poisonous hollyhock causes one heavy hit of poison damage to the player, capable of dealing between 1,145 and 2,189 damage. The poisonous hollyhock can be dug out to make space for new seedlings to nurture to avoid the damage. The flowers must be given to the Zamorakian farmer in the area. Each player needs to give at least seven flowers for the event to be considered a success for them. The total amount required scales linearly with the number of players participating in the event, determined by the expression where is the number of players. The flower bushes disappear after five minutes or once the collective requirement has been met, whichever comes first, after which the players still have 30 seconds to hand in their remaining flowers. Successful completion of the event yields Farming experience depending on the player's Farming level and a sack of wild rewards.

Infernal Star is a special event consisting of two sub-events: Infernal Star: Mine and Infernal Star: Fight. The event occurs just north-east of the Chaos Temple.

In the Infernal Star: Mine event players mine the infernal star. They have five minutes to gain enough progress, with each participant requiring at least personal mining progress and the event collectively requiring event mining progress for the event to be considered successful, where is the number of players involved. The collective event requirement scales with the number of players participating in the event. Each swing yields one progress. The players can take damage from randomly determined swings announced with You feel heat building inside the star! Damage can be completely avoided by moving at least two game squares from your current one or significantly reduced with the protect from magic prayer. If personal and collective progress goals are not both met by the end of the event time, the star will despawn, and the linked next event will not start. The event ends once the time runs out or the collective target is reached, whichever comes first. For a successful completion, a sack of wild rewards and Mining experience scaled to the player's Mining level is given. This event's description in the Minigames interface is "Mine the fallen star to its centre."

In the Infernal Star: Fight event the players fight the pyrefiends that continuously spawn in the area. The event ends in five minutes or when the target number of pyrefiends have been killed, whichever comes first. The number of kills required scales with the number of players participating in the event, determined by the expression , where is the number of players involved. Players must personally deal 70,000 damage for this event to be considered successful. Both ghosts and Graveside Phantoms spawn continuously for five minutes or until the collective event target has been met, whichever happens first. To succeed in the event, the player must personally hand in at least ectoplasm, while the collective event target scales linearly with the number of players participating in the event, determined by the expression where is the number of players. In Displaced Energy, displaced energy is harvested from lost wisps. Players are required to give at least energy to the Zamorakian diviner to be eligible for rewards, and a total of energy must be given collectively for the event to be considered successful, where is the number of players involved in the area. Occasionally the lost wisps yield unstable energy that causes an explosion dealing heavy damage up to 2,172 to the player, stunning them for six seconds, if they move from their current game square with it in their backpack. The unstable energy can be stabilised by clicking on it, transforming it into displaced energy safely. The wisps disappear when five minutes have passed or when the collective hand-in target has been reached, whichever comes first. Evil Bloodwood Tree is a special event consisting of three sub-events: Evil Bloodwood Tree: Feed, Evil Bloodwood Tree: Chop, and Evil Bloodwood Tree: Burn. The event occurs just south of the grave and a statue on the green patch of land south-west of the Wilderness Crater lodestone.

Evil Bloodwood Tree: Feed yields Farming experience. Its description in the Minigames interface is "Feed the sapling ground bones." During this phase the players must first take bones from the four skeletons surrounding the bloody sapling. The bones must then be ground before the sapling is nurtured with them. A total bones must be contributed personally to succeed in the event, while the shared event progress required is , where is the number of players involved. Both requirements scale according to the number of players participating in the event. After five minutes or when the collective target has been reached, whichever happens first, the skeletons disappear. Players then have 30 seconds to nurture the sapling with the remaining bones, and the tree grows into an evil bloodwood tree, proceeding the event to the next phase and giving the players who contributed enough Farming experience depending on their Farming level and a sack of wild rewards, or ends if the players were unsuccessful.

Evil Bloodwood Tree: Chop yields Woodcutting experience. Its description in the Minigames interface is "Chop down the evil bloodwood tree." During this phase the players must chop down the evil bloodwood tree, damaging it and yielding evil tree kindling to be used in the next phase. Chopping must be done times personally to succeed in the event, while shared event progress is required, scaling according to the number of players participating in the event, where is the number of players involved. After five minutes the event ends or when the collective target has been reached the event ends, and the tree changes into a butchered bloodwood tree, proceeding the event to the next phase and giving the players who contributed enough Woodcutting experience depending on their Woodcutting level and a sack of wild rewards, or ends if the players were unsuccessful.

Evil Bloodwood Tree: Burn yields Firemaking experience. Its description in the Minigames interface is "Burn the remains of the evil bloodwood tree." Players must damage the butchered bloodwood tree by burning evil tree kindling collected in previous phase and harvested from the surrounding fire spirits to succeed in the event. In total kindling must be burnt personally to succeed in the event, while kindling burnt by all the players participating collectively in the event is required, where is the number of players involved. The collective event progress scales according to the number of players participating in the event. After five minutes or when the collective target has been reached, whichever happens first, fire spirit disappears. The players then have 30 seconds to damage the tree, and if the players contributed enough both personally and collectively, they are given Firemaking experience depending on their Firemaking level, a sack of wild rewards, and a sack of very wild rewards.

In all of the phases above, evil roots lash at the players, binding and stunning them momentarily while also dealing a small amount of damage if not avoided.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

In order to receive rewards, it is important to fully participate in each event. Players who successfully reach their individual contribution requirement will receive a sack of wild rewards upon event completion. Before participating in combat events, the player should make sure that they have at least two free spaces in their inventory, or one in inventory and one in bank. Participating in skilling events, the player should reserve enough spaces in their inventory for gathering resources, minimum two spaces. Otherwise, the sack of very wild rewards or combat XP lamp received upon event completion will be automatically destroyed.

General strategy[edit | edit source]

  • Preparing: five minutes before the upcoming event starts, the relevant event and location hint will be broadcasted as a chat message. The players should arrive at the destination to prepare before the event starts because of the competitive nature of the whole minigame. The player may talk to Nikkel or the Wandering Ramokee to get information about the next event and its location after the current event starts. After completing Far-Reaching and Wild-Ranging, the players can interact with Nikkel or the Wandering Ramokee to teleport to the active event. The teleportation option is offered by talking to either and asking about the next event five minutes before the event starts, or after the event has started by right-clicking them or asking them about the current event. It is also a good idea to opt out of PvP prior to participation.
  • General Skilling: gather resources and hand them in to the nearby NPC before the overall quota is reached. After either the quota is reached or five minutes elapse, all skilling plots will disappear, and players have an additional 30 seconds to hand in any remaining resources to the NPC nearby before the event ends.
  • General Combat: the player has five minutes to deal at least 70,000 damage and kill up to 100 enemies. After the final enemy dies, if the player has not dealt the required damage, the event will not be considered completed for the player. If five minutes elapse before all of the enemies are killed, all participants will fail the event.
  • Multi-stage events: in the early stages, make sure that the encounter reaches the overall target so that the event will continue to the final stage, even if that means missing out on individual rewards.
  • Be prepared for random Wilderness events via threat levels.
  • If the player fails an event due to not reaching the personal target before the collective target is reached, then it is possible to switch to another world and try again as long as the event has not ended on that world. However, personal progress will be reset.

Event-specific strategy[edit | edit source]

  • Spider Swarm: the NopeNopeNope player-owned farm perk works.
  • Unnatural Outcrop: it is recommended to have lots of backpack space before starting this event to reduce the frequency of handing in resources.
  • Demon Stragglers: the demon slayer perk and ability both work.
  • Butterfly Swarm: it is recommended to have lots of backpack space before starting this event to reduce the frequency of handing in resources. Players who want to avoid taking poison damage should only catch the colourful, non-dangerous butterflies. The anti-poison totem and poison purge aura both work in negating damage from the poisonous butterflies.
  • King Black Dragon Rampage: this encounter is much more dangerous than regular combat events, so the player should adequately prepare as the chance of dying is high. The King Black Dragon will be immune to damage while there are spires and/or minions active, so the player should attack those first. When attacking the King Black Dragon or his minions, dragon slayer perk and ability both work. Having dragonfire protection is also recommended.
  • Forgotten Soldiers: bring combat gear and food, as the soldiers can deal a lot of damage if not enough players are present.
  • Surprising Seedlings: For this event, there are four seedlings surrounding the pond. Nurturing any seedling will allow it to soon grow into Wilderness irises, roses, or Poisonous hollyhocks. There can only be a maximum of two poisonous hollyhocks. If the player leaves the two poisonous hollyhocks alone, the remaining seedlings will always be either irises or roses. It is recommended to force the two poisonous hollyhocks to grow at the northern spawns because the southern spawns are much closer together, thus reducing time spent walking between spawns. This strategy allows for the event to be completed much faster than nurturing all four seedlings and digging up poisonous hollyhocks.
  • Hellhound Pack: as hellhounds are demons, the demon slayer perk and ability both work.
  • Infernal Star: this event has two stages, each of which will count as an event completion and give a sack of wild rewards. The second stage involves combat, so the player should bring their best combat equipment. AoE abilities will help in increasing damage.
  • Lost Souls: it is recommended to have lots of backpack space before starting this event to reduce the frequency of gathering and handing in resources.
  • Ramokee Invasion: bring combat gear and food, as the ramokees can deal a lot of damage if not enough players are present.
  • Displaced Energy: it is recommended to have lots of backpack space before starting this event to reduce the frequency of handing in resources.
  • Evil Bloodwood Tree: it is advised to have lots of backpack space before starting this event. This event has three stages, each of which will count as an event completion and give a sack of wild rewards. During the second stage, it is recommended to gather a full inventory of evil tree kindlings to get a head start in the third stage. If the last stage is successfully completed, the player will receive a sack of very wild rewards.

Rewards[edit | edit source]

Each event yields an experience reward and a sack of wild rewards upon successful completion. The Infernal Star and Evil Tree events are comprised of two stages and three stages respectively, and yield a sack of wild rewards on completion of each stage.

The special events (King Black Dragon Rampage, Infernal Star, and Evil Bloodwood Tree) also yield a sack of very wild rewards upon successful completion of the final stage. This sack has different rewards, such as dragon rider boots and gloves, the draconic visage, and black dragon eggs. Completing the King Black Dragon Rampage event additionally gives a chance at Last Riders and a King black dragon scale, and also awards one kill count against the King Black Dragon boss and ten Marks of War. The chance for Last Riders is significantly improved from the normal King Black Dragon fight.

Staying in the event area is not required to obtain the rewards. Staying logged into the world where the event was completed in is, though.

Experience for successfully completing events[edit | edit source]

Experience during the events will be token, but if a player succeeds in the encounter, they get a large experience reward scaled to their appropriate level. For skilling events the experience is rewarded directly on success, and for combat events a combat XP lamp is given.

If both the personal and collective targets were met, the experience is given according to the following table.

Unique rewards[edit | edit source]

Obelisk shards are tradeable, single-use teleports to Wilderness obelisks. The portable obelisk is a non-tradable, infinite-use version of the obelisk shard. Shards can only be obtained from normal sacks, while the obelisk can be obtained from both. If the player has completed the hard Wilderness achievements, they will be able to select which obelisk to teleport to. Both of the items only work up to level 30 Wilderness.

Obsidian palmstone is a stackable inventory item that prevents Wilderness threat level from increasing.

A dark onyx core may very rarely be received from special events. It can be used to create three enchantments, one for each alchemical onyx jewellery. The core itself is not tradable, but the enchantments are.
