This article is about the monster. For other uses, see Werewolf (disambiguation).
Werewolf icon.png

Werewolves are bipedal canine monsters found in Canifis and in the God Wars Dungeon. They have low defence for what their combat level suggests. Werewolves in Canifis appear as normal humans (level 28 with 1000 life points) until damaged, unless the player wields Wolfbane, in which case they remain human. It is not possible to kill their human form in one hit as you can only do a maximum of 1000 damage and they would still transform and gain the extra 1250 health from their werewolf form. In either case they drop Wolf bones.

Level 89 Werewolves can be found in the God Wars Dungeon. They also have better defence and accuracy than their Canifis counterparts, and are also aggressive to players not wearing an item of Zamorak. They are spread out all over the area except the Bandos area. Werewolves can be killed here for a Slayer assignment, but this is usually not recommended due to the remoteness, size and dangers of the area, although there are many Spiritual Warriors and mages who can help kill them faster there.

They only count towards Slayer tasks and exp when killed in the "wolf" form, not their human forms.

Strategies[edit | edit source]

While Wolfbane can prevent them from turning into a stronger form (you can also wield a better weapon in the offhand, and they would still be unable to transform), due to its very low stats it is not recommended to use it. A Sunspear (melee), Sunspear (ranged), or Sunspear (magic) can be used to prevent the transformation and are much stronger weapons, but requires River of Blood.

Food is generally unnecessary in Canifis as a bank is nearby and you will automatically regain your health in there. Roavar in the bar sells moonlight mead for 5 coins, which heals 440 life points with no negative effects. For low level players, werewolves can also be safe spotted with Ranged or Magic over tables in the bar, the general store or the meat shop.

A Werewolf transforming.
A player using the safe spot in Rufus's food store to kill a werewolf.

Canifis can be used as a respawn hub. When the player dies, they can respawn in Canifis and pick up any dropped items quickly.

Mod Timbo: "1/1280 if you hit the RDT, requires T4 luck to be worn in order to get a hold of it. Of course there are tons of different ways to access the RDT so it changes massively depending on what you're fighting, what you're wearing etc."
  2. ^ Indicates a failed 1/10 roll for Hazelmere's signet ring.
  3. ^ Indicates a roll for Hazelmere's signet ring without tier 4 luck.
  4. ^ Requires tier 4 luck. Rarer than the vecna skull.

    • Werewolves in Canifis are once again using the correct drop table in wolf form.
  • ninja 17 November 2014 (Update):
    • Villagers in Canifis now have a smoother transition into werewolves, as they will not interrupt combat.
  • patch 13 January 2014 (Update):
    • Werewolves no longer spawn in blocked areas in Canifis.
  • patch 7 June 2011 (Update):
    • Werewolves no longer disappear briefly when transforming from their human forms.
  • patch 8 March 2011 (Update):
    • A spike no longer protrudes from this npc when they transform.
  • patch 13 May 2010 (Update):
    • Fixed the human-to-werewolf transformation animation.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Werewolves used to drop hard clue scrolls but a hidden update changed this to medium clue scrolls.
  • Werewolves were previously known as "Wolfman" and "Wolfwoman", and simply "Man" and "Woman" before they transformed.
  • If you kill a werewolf during the transformation, they would not play the death animation and would instead freeze for a few seconds before disappearing and the drops would appear.
  • If you cause a werewolf to transform and leave it alone, it would eventually change back into the human form, but retaining the higher health of the werewolf.
