History[edit | edit source]
Warforge was previously an underground Bandosian military institution in Feldip Hills. Bandos used the facility both to train goblins, with the other races acting as instructors, such as hobgoblins, ourgs, orks and ogres. The goblins were pitted in brutal games, both for Bandos' own amusement and a source of income for his armies, as he would sell the surviving goblins to other parties as mercenaries. Beasts of various kinds were housed to be used against the goblins, such as hellhounds, mammoths and the "nosorog", one of Bandos' most favoured creatures.
These goblins were the source of many discussions about Third Age military, and many wondered how these goblins were well trained and equipped, as present day goblins are known to be disorganized and poorly armed. It was soon revealed that Bandos' followers had kidnapped Thalmund, an Imcando dwarf, who was forced to make weapons for the Bandosians. Thalmund's work culminated in the creation of his forge and warforged bronze, which was said to be superior than some forms of steel used by the other factions during the time.
Following the end of the God Wars, Bandos collapsed the facility, with his armies still inside so no one else could claim them, shortly before he was banished at the end of the God Wars. Many were killed, although a few were able to escape to the surface; those who escaped never spoke of the events again. Those who were stuck inside soon entered a period known as the Forge Wars, fighting in the belief that this was Bandos' final game and that he would come and rescue the victors. Any hobgoblin, ogre, ork, or ourg instructors still inside were likely killed by the goblins due to their overwhelming numbers.[1]
Thalmund had spent so long among the goblins that eventually he came to empathise with them and see them as a surrogate family. The goblins, in turn, had come to revere the forge (and by extension, Thalmund himself), to the point that they believed they could earn favour by trading supplies for his weapons. Thalmund took advantage of this to, over the years, stockpile compounds necessary to make explosives, which he eventually used to dig his way to the surface and lead the trapped goblins to freedom.
The site was rediscovered shortly after Mobilising Armies was dismantled during the Sixth Age. Yanillian wizards noticed a blue glow in Oo'glog's direction and investigated further. They found time sprites that led them to goblin artefacts, which Guildmaster Tony assumed was from Warforge after hearing about the place from General Bentnoze and General Wartface.[1]
When the World Guardian rediscovered Thalmund's Forge deep within the Warforge, word spread to the dwarves across Gielinor, who travelled to the site in order to personally inspect the furnace and the weapons left behind by Thalmund, finding his work impressive.
Features[edit | edit source]
The crucible[edit | edit source]
This is where Bandos watched fights for his entertainment. There are two sets of crucible stands debris in the Warforge - Crucible stands excavation site, along with three gladiatorial goblin remains in the Warforge - Crucible arena excavation site. The entrance to the tunnels is underneath the throne, but the barricade must be excavated away (with level 83 Archaeology) prior to accessing the entrance.
There is a materials cart with some archaeologists nearby in the arena.
Bandos's throne is located right where the lift to the area descends, and the barricade and the grille in the arena.
Right above the gate across the barricade is a materials box which may be opened for some Invention components.
Once the You Have Chosen... mystery is completed, Bandos's sanctum can be accessed, which contains Bandos sanctum debris in the Warforge - Bandos's sanctum excavation site, the weapons cache, and another chest.
The tunnels[edit | edit source]
The goblins made use of the tunnel system underneath the Crucible, as they were housed here while in training.
A river divides the tunnels in half; players may cross over using the bridges found in the area. The river contains two fishing areas; one by the nearby bridge which contains two eel swarms, yielding raw cave eels and slimy eels, and another further northwest which contains two cavefish shoals. A crate of materials is found floating near the cavefish shoals.
North tunnels[edit | edit source]
The northern tunnels contains another tunnel which may be visited with a Thorobshuun battle standard to obtain a red hand cave painting. There are scattered caches of mark of the Kyzaj, warforged bronze and malachite green in this area's excavation site.
A materials cart can be found in this area with an archaeologist next to it. Another archaeologist can be found excavating in the excavation site.
There is also a door leading to Thalmund's forge here, where players begin the Into the Forge mystery.
South tunnels[edit | edit source]
The southern area contains a small mining site consisting of a single copper, tin and necrite rock. There are also two explorable tunnels; the south-eastern one will collapse, but the one in the south central area may be visited with a Garagorshuun anchor to obtain the green skull cave painting, used for the creation of the goblin warpaints. Next to this tunnel is another materials box.
This area contains the goblin dorm debris, Kyzaj champion's boudoir and Yubiusk animal pens, along with four vulcanised rubber caches and two Yu'biusk clay caches, albeit scattered across the area's Warforge - South goblin tunnels excavation site and Warforge - Animal pens excavation site.
A materials cart can be found in this area with an archaeologist next to it. Two more archaeologists can be found excavating in the excavation sites.
There is also a door to the north leading to Thalmund's Forge.
