Description: Making vis wax

Vis wax detail.png

Vis wax is a sticky goo created from runes during the Rune Goldberg Machine distraction and diversion. It has a variety of uses, including the ability to double the duration and reward of daily challenges or reroll them for a challenge of a different skill, extend the duration of certain auras, increase divine location gathering limits, or converted into charges for quick lodestone teleports. The player may only use the machine once each day with a maximum possible output of 100 vis wax.

Uses[edit | edit source]

If you do not have enough vis wax in your inventory when using it, the remaining balance needed will deduct from your bank.

Auras[edit | edit source]

Resetting[edit | edit source]

Cost: 40 vis wax.png: RS3 Inventory image of vis wax (894,720 coins)

Only the Jack of trades and Wisdom auras may be reset with vis wax, once per day. For resetting other auras, players must use an aura refresh instead.

Extending[edit | edit source]

Cost: Varies (see table below)

Players may extend the duration of an aura's activation time by either 50% or 100%. The aura extension is temporary, affecting only its next activation. The extension must be applied prior to the aura's activation and does not apply to a currently active aura. The costs for extending an aura are outlined in the table below:

Daily challenges[edit | edit source]

Rerolling[edit | edit source]

Cost: 10 vis wax.png: RS3 Inventory image of vis wax (223,680 coins)

Players may reroll a daily challenge for a different skill. Each daily challenge may only be rerolled once. When done so, players are prompted with the new challenge which they may choose to either accept or reject, consuming the vis wax regardless. If the prompt is closed, the daily challenge will not be changed.

Extending[edit | edit source]

Cost: 25 vis wax.png: RS3 Inventory image of vis wax (559,200 coins)

Players may extend daily challenges, doubling the requirement (e.g. brewing 4 potions instead of 2) and receiving double the experience reward and Weekly Progress.

Harmony pillars[edit | edit source]

Cost: 10 vis wax.png: RS3 Inventory image of vis wax (223,680 coins)

Players with an already-planted harmony pillar may reset it to change the target skill. Doing so is limited to once per day, resets the gained XP to 0 and requires a new seed to be planted to attune a different skill.

Divine locations[edit | edit source]

Cost: 20 vis wax.png: RS3 Inventory image of vis wax (447,360 coins) for 50%
40 vis wax.png: RS3 Inventory image of vis wax (894,720 coins) for 100%

Players may extend the daily gathering limit of their divine locations once per day, by either 50% or 100%. The limit may only be increased by one choice of either of the aforementioned amounts (e.g. one cannot extend it by 50% twice, or 50% and 100% for 150%).

Alternatively, players may prefer to extend their divine location gathering limit by 100% for free using the Bounty of Crondis from the desert pantheon aura.

Quick-teleport charges[edit | edit source]

Cost: 1 vis wax.png: RS3 Inventory image of vis wax per 10 charges (22,368 coins)

Use of the Lodestone Network includes a quick-teleport option, allowing teleportation at a faster rate. For every vis wax converted, players may charge 10 quick-teleports.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The word vīs (pronounced 'wees[h]') is Latin for "force" or "power." This is in line with the (subtly) stated purpose of the machine itself, which is to find out exactly what makes up the physical rune stones. It can be reasonably inferred that the wax is a physical manifestation of the raw power of rune stones, hence its ability to effectively alter certain gameplay mechanics, albeit temporarily.
  • The item is a reference to vis from Ars Magica[1]
  • Prior to 3 November 2014, the cost to re-roll daily challenges was 10 wax, while extending a challenge cost 20. This was changed in the interest of "re-balancing" the costs, likely because of widespread sentiment that the low costs had made the challenge system "too easy."
  • Seasonal auras (Enlightenment and Festive), Premier Club auras (Dwarven instinct), and other auras that aren't purchased from Solomon's store cannot be reset or extended with vis wax.
