Virtus armour is a set of degradable high-level Magic equipment that requires 80 Defence and 80 Constitution to wear, and 80 Magic to wield. It was first mentioned on 3 January 2011[1] and released into the game on 10 January 2011.[2] Virtus armour and weapons may only be obtained as rare drops from Nex, the boss of the Zarosian stronghold of the God Wars Dungeon, the Ancient Prison. The armour is the Magic counterpart to Torva armour and Pernix armour, which are respectively Melee and Ranged sets.

A similar set of armour is the Anima Core of Seren set, which is somewhat cheaper than Virtus and has similar stats.

As tier 80 equipment, Virtus armour is currently the fifth highest-level Magic armour in the game (behind seasinger's, Refined Anima Core of Seren, tectonic, and Primeval equipment), and the third-best Magic power armour. The Virtus wand and book are also tier 80, on par with the similarly dual-wielded Attuned crystal wand and Attuned crystal orb. The two-handed chaotic staff and attuned crystal staff are also of the same tier.

Wearing any piece of Torva, Pernix, or Virtus armours, or wielding virtus wand or virtus book or a zaryte bow, will cause all followers of non-Zarosian factions in the God Wars Dungeon to become unaggressive. Only the Zarosian faction and the generals (and their bodyguards) of each faction will still be aggressive.

The armour may be broken down at the Dragon Forge, located in the Ancient Cavern, to praesulic essence (magic), which is a component in the creation of elite tectonic armour. This requires completion of While Guthix Sleeps.

Degrading and repair[edit | edit source]

Ancient armour degrades as it is used. Equipment received from Nex or Treasure Hunter is fully repaired and can be used for 60,000 charges of combat (though it degrades by 2 charges per hit, making the minimum time 5 hours) until it degrades completely and requires repair before it can be used again; it does not suffer in performance as it degrades from fully repaired to fully degraded. The remaining charges of Ancient armour can be checked by right-clicking it and selecting 'check-charge'. Additionally, Ancient armour may only be traded if fully repaired or fully degraded, excluding Shadow Gem variants. Items lose 20% charge if reclaimed from a gravestone after dying.

There are two ways to repair Ancient armour. Players can talk to any of the NPCs listed below and they will repair the items for a price, or repair the pieces themselves using an armour stand in any player-owned house for a reduced cost based on their Smithing level. The equipment can be repaired at any stage, and the cost will be adjusted according to how much it has degraded. The repair costs below are as if the equipment has fully degraded.

The following NPCs can repair the armour:

Item shards[edit | edit source]

Item shards are obtained from certain monsters while having CoinShare on. When a rare drop is given by the monster, 120 item shards are divided up among the involved players and sent to their banks. 120 shards can then be combined to give the original item.

Update history[edit | edit source]

This information has been compiled as part of the update history project. Some updates may not be included - see here for how to help out!
  • patch 8 June 2015 (Update):
    • Torva, Pernix and Virtus armour no longer show offensive combat stats as a requirement in the skill guide.
  • patch 17 August 2011 (Update):
    • Godwars degradable items no longer degrade on free worlds.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • LolthenKILL, a player spoof, wears a full set of this armour during The Elder Kiln.
  • Whenever Nex drops a piece of Torva, Pernix, or Virtus armour, a server wide announcement is broadcast to all players currently logged into that particular world.
  • Virtus equipment is named and modelled after Virtus, an elite mage who served in Zaros' army during the Second Age.
  • With the God Wars Dungeon graphical update, Nex's mages use Virtus armour, though with a slight change in colour. Nex's mages also use Virtus armour in the extension fight, but with a much larger change in appearance.
