Demon Flash Mobs spawns[edit source]

Hey, we really only do a page of spawns for temporary events that will be there for the entire time across all worlds, EG Easter egg hunt. Demon Flash Mobs are here to stay, and aren't guaranteed to stay for the full hour. As for where, Demon_Flash_Mob#Locations lists all the locations, and I suspect it's a different location for each world. What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 01:14, February 4, 2013 (UTC)

I'm aware of that. When hunting Demon Flash Mobs, listing exact spawn times somewhere is crucial. I thought Wikia would be a good palce to get a community-editable list going. At the moment, people are using RS FC's with random calls. We really need some web site to do that. If Wikia doesn't allow such a list, I guess we'll have to use Google Docs or something. Thingummywut (talk) 01:30, February 4, 2013 (UTC)
It is impractical to have a page that would have to be updated over 100 times every hour that would be outdated within a short time on a permanent basis. Better to organise this sort of thing at a local level IE ingame fcs rather than have a page that is for most of the time outdated What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 01:33, February 4, 2013 (UTC)
Fair point. In-game FCs are very poor for getting a good list of spawns propagated to a mass of players. I'll try to find a way to set up an easily accessible IRC channel for spawns. Thingummywut (talk) 01:37, February 4, 2013 (UTC)

Scan clues page[edit source]

Hey thanks for all the locations you've been adding to the page, it's really great to have someone helping out with this. It would be really helpful if you could also put the locations onto the maps on the page. You can do this by searching for the maps (they're all called Map:(Place name) scan) and editing them there. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. Thanks, Magic logs detail.pngIsobelTalk page 15:33, November 26, 2014 (UTC)

Scans maps[edit source]

Hey, thanks for continuing to add locations to this page and for learning to add them as symbols on the maps. I'm just leaving this message to explain properly what the blue "approx" symbols is for. Some locations have this if their in-game image was retaken and we weren't sure that the new image showed the exact right spot (some of the areas changed considerably since the images were last taken). More often now, the approx symbol is used when we don't have an in-game image for a location.

If we don't have an in-game image, then we've been using the approx symbol on the map and adding a text description of the location to the "Other possible locations" section for the area which is beneath the in-game images of locations. We them make the symbol for these locations link to "Other possible locations (<area name>) which just takes the viewer to all the text descriptions. Also, the title for these images should be the same as the text description on the scans article.

Please try and stick to doing this when you're adding locations without in-game images. Alternatively I don't mind explaining how to take the in game images, just leave me a talk page message if that's something you'd be interested in.

Thanks, Magic logs detail.pngIsobelTalk page 08:13, March 13, 2015 (UTC)

OK, I'll start using the "other possible locations" space. I just felt it's a bit silly to list the locations there just because momentarily they don't have a picture. I know well enough how to take, edit and add pictures but to be honest, I just can't be bothered. Just adding the info about missing clues is slowing my clues down considerably; if I had to start taking pictures too, I probably wouldn't be adding the clues on Wikia at all. POP Clue voyage region[edit source]

The region for those POP clue voyages is determined mostly by difficulty and voyage length. Though, if you want, you could also determine it by crew XP earnt. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 08:06, May 11, 2015 (UTC)

This is interesting, the other The Scythe special effect voyages list "2" as the quantity instead of 1. A Terracotta Merchant should only influence the amount once there are at least 3 (3*133% = ~4), while a Jade Merchant would need at least 4 before an additional one is given. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 13:23, June 16, 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I found it interesting too. I sent this voyage without a merchant for no particular reason. It could be set to reward like 1.8 kegs by default or something to make it work like this. I'll continue to experiment with and without merchants. Also before when I've received 2 as a reward, the voyage details still listed only 1. Thingummywut (talk) 13:30, June 16, 2015 (UTC)
The amounts listed on the voyages page should be the amount specified in the Voyage detail screen; not the actual amount received (as stuff may influence that). Tho if the voyage details and the result without any bonuses doesn't match up, I'd make a bug report about it. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 13:50, June 16, 2015 (UTC)
Just confirmed that the Whaler's clue voyage really does give 2 bottles as a reward, even without the merchant. I'll add a note that voyage details list only one, though. Thingummywut (talk) 13:07, June 23, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Hidden update[edit source]

Hi,

Yes it does indeed include the interface of won rewards. It is also the text used when the item is hovered over in the TH promo interface. In this specific case the text changed used to be: "2h and 1h versions of the sword unlocked as a comsetic override." And was changed to: "2h and 1h versions of the sword unlocked as a cosmetic override."

Note the typo fix in the word "Cosmetic", which was not mentioned in the patch notes.

Re:Loot Piñata[edit source]

Yup, I'm sure you can get luchador masks as a direct reward as well, as I received El Defensor directly from looting a piñata (another player's, if that is relevant). It is a bit weird that they reward both the token and luchador masks, but I can confirm that it is possible. Unfortunately I cannot prove it with a screenshot or anything, as I got the reward yesterday and I didn't think making a screenshot would be necessary. Clue locations moving[edit source]

We noticed a few years ago when tracking the Penguin Hide and Seek/Spawn locations that a lot of the coordinates had shifted a few degrees around one day. We determined that Jagex changed a little of the math used for determining which coordinate a map grid was actually on. I'm not sure if that change is what's also affecting the Treasure Trail coordinate pictures, or if it's just simply human error, but we still check that our coordinates are up-to-date for penguins because of that past event. If you're inclined to tracking a few clue locations in the future, the Developer coordinates and Calculator:Coordinates might be of interest to you. — Heaven Sent (talk) 21:20, March 9, 2016 (UTC)

Please don't add aliases for single items. You've inflated the template pointlessly and for what? "Saradomin sword" is not a valid alias. Just use the basic category names in templates on those pages. MolMan 17:41, March 17, 2016 (UTC)

Ranges[edit source]

If a drop comes in quantities of "85-100", and you receive a drop of 82, please just extend the lower limit of the range. MolMan 14:07, April 8, 2016 (UTC)

For here, it's very obvious that it's a range. Use separate ranges when it makes sense for there to be 2 separate ranges. An example of this is the coin drops on Ice strykewyrm. For values less than 1000, the only two values you'll ever see are 200 and 660. For higher values, we've seen random numbers between 4400 and 8000, but we haven't necessarily seen them all. It would take too much time and effort. thinking about it logically, it makes sense to list that as a range.
Another personal favorite of mine is the coins drop from Caskets. The exact formula for the quantities is in the trivia.
As for "16-100", I assume that's about dwarf weeds? I actually just removed that, because as far as I can tell, he never drops that many. I think that was likely a bad assumption based on the lantadyme drops. However, if I'm wrong (and I may be, I only have just over 100 kills), I think dwarf weeds would be a logical place to include a separate range. If you've actually seen a dwarf weed drop that high, then it's likely they're separate drops that may even warrant separate drops lines.
As a general rule of thumb, if you have several values close together, like say, 14;16;17;19;20, it's logical to assume that the values 15 and 18 are in there as well, and you should list it as a range. MolMan 14:24, April 8, 2016 (UTC)

Contract formula[edit source]

The formula for contracts seems to be as you said, except I think the minimum number for skill tasks is 30; experience is from a lookup table I figure, but I'm not sure where the cutoffs for the slayer points happen yet. Once we find out where the points increase we could probably create a calc for the slayer tasks. The others are pretty much the same too. Probably something like:

For(Skill)
  Return{
    Task ← randomSkillTask;
    Amount ← rand() % 70+30;  //Random value (30–100)
    Chimes ← Amount(Floor of 50)
    Experience ← search(randomSkillTaskXP) × Amount
  }
Print [(Skill) (Amount) (Task) | Reward: (Chimes) chimes & (Experience) (Skill) XP]

Slayer points are probably something like:

For Slayer
  SlayerPoints ← 30—50=2, 51—?=3, ?—?=4, etc...

Collection and Crafting tasks are special cases also. Collection tasks seem to always reward 250 chimes regardless of the task. Crafting tasks I'm not sure the minimum or maximum values for, but chime rewards seem to be 2 × Amount for them, with a Floor value of 50 chimes as well. I've been meaning to add this information to its talkpage, but also wanted to wait until we know more of the missing variables too. — Heaven Sent (talk) 01:42, August 12, 2016 (UTC)

Re: Mining timings[edit source]

Ehhh I'll clarify it here in very strenuous detail here I guess. First let me describe how iron **used** to work. Note: This analysis is for rune pickaxes only.

If you were already at the iron rock and mined it, if you watch the animation, the pickaxe strikes only once before you get it. If you time this animation, starting with tick 1, you'd find that you get the ore on tick 2. You could either say this takes 1 tick (since 2-1=1) or 2 ticks (the initial preparation to mine the rock [i.e. looking at it] takes 1 tick too, and if you were surrounded with iron ore and mined as fast as you could, you'd find that you'd be able to mine an iron ore every 2 ticks, that is, the entire action from start to finish uses up 2 ticks of player time). Let's use the second reasoning and say that this takes 2 ticks.

Now (still in the old system) if you ran up to the iron rock, then the pickaxe animation would strike twice before getting the ore. If you time this animation, starting with tick 1, you'd get the ore on tick 3. So this takes 3 ticks.

Now for any other typical ore, say copper.

If you were already at the copper rock, the pickaxe would strike twice before you got the ore. That means it takes 3 ticks.

If you ran up to the copper rock, the pickaxe strikes 3 times before you got the ore. That's 4 ticks.

Now every other rock is like copper except that you have a chance of not getting the ore on the 4th tick. If so, then the next chance is on the 7th tick, then 10th tick, 13th tick, and so on. (This is for rune pickaxes only. For adamant, the ticks on which you can get the ore are spaced out by 4 instead of 3. Also if you used an adamant pickaxe, the initial tick on which you could get the ore is also increased by 1 for all rocks.)

Now what the new system did is to make the "already there" and "ran up to the rock" mining times equal. For most rocks, that works by reducing the "ran up to the rock" mining time by 1. But for iron, what they did is to increase the "already there" mining time by 1.

I'm getting like 13k, and on the current meteor event, despite invention being boosted, based on the credits for vic, a small space dust nets me 11 credits at 97, which is about 1.5k bxp/credit, even taking account the promo's 100% bxp boost for the lowest skills. Memory Strand - apology[edit source]

Hey, just wanted to drop an apology about removing the estimate strand values in Memory strand page. The way you phrased that sentence confused me and since I had accurate data from 20 man-hours I was fairly confident to remove it altogether.

I wasn't looking for pattern and therefore I didn't even bother to compare the 20% change per minute to my data, and that was a huge mistake. Now when you reworded your sentence and added it back, it makes a lot more sense when compared to my data too.

So, I'm sorry, I'm gonna remember what just happened and be more careful in the future heh.

Idk if you have noticed but there also seems to be really small change to receive strands before a minute has passed, I've seen a handful of drops anywhere between 4s - 55s. (I'm not so sure did that last sentence make any sense, so here's an example just in case: first strand drop at 9:11:54, second drop at 9:11:59) Seems to happen way more often on normal springs rather than with ancestral springs. On Skilling Backback, RE: Hide(s)[edit source]

I noticed on the edit history of skilling backpack you mentioned that "hide" is not a countable noun. I believe that it actually is, and I wanted to explain why I put the "s" back on hides again. (1) Per Wiktionary, (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/hide) and also Google's dictionary, it is countable, plural hides, and (2) we also refer to hides plural on the page itself, protean hide. Not trying to prove you wrong or anything, just wanted to explain the edit. Scan clue ordering[edit source]

Ordering them in that way would make no sense to people using the guide. You can easily ctrl + f any place based on the description, which should be the same on the map and on the page. It's not that difficult to place a new entry, just put it near the other clues in that area (or dump it at the end and I'll end up re-locating it). It's not an exact science or order but it makes a lot more sense than ordering by the co-ordinates in my opinion. Magic logs detail.pngIsobelTalk page 11:05, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

Scan clue images[edit source]

What do you mean by [[1]]? As far as I can tell the clue does tell you you're at the correct location when you're one pace off to the north, however I am taking the images on the exact place shown by the arrow so I believed that it was correct. Other scan clue locs[edit source]

Hey, I removed the other possible locations for desert clues because the area has been updated a couple of times, I wasn't sure if they all still existed and wanted to start the list again. I couldn't tell how long any of them had been there because of the lack of images. You are welcome to put in any that you know exist since the area updates, it would be really helpful if you could do images in future as well. Separating (or the lack of) dialogue in transcripts[edit source]

As per the transcript style guide, dialogue in separate chat boxes, but spoken by the same person, may be combined, unless that dialogue is interrupted by another person's dialogue or an event. Hence why I originally left all that text joined together. Fishing cape.png Kate the HuntressQuest.png 23:46, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

Though interesting adding the chathead expression to transcript it may be, most wouldn't appreciate it, nor would it be very feasible if we were to attempt to standardise it, considering that some dialogues can no longer be experienced in-game. Fishing cape.png Kate the HuntressQuest.png 00:24, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
Ah... Though... would you still perhaps want to create a forum thread to discuss about chathead expressions? I once encountered something like that in Transcript:Thurgo, and an admin told me to remove it. Fishing cape.png Kate the HuntressQuest.png 00:36, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

Challenge System exp rewards[edit source]

What to do with exp rewards where the chat says one thing while the pop up shows one exp more? Pretty much every page contains those and in the past we have just put it at ".5". I don't know if a range is the best idea, since that might clutter the pages. Even normal bones which give 4.5 exp have 4 exp pop ups every other time and goblins giving 33.1 exp have 34 exp pop ups every tenth. Having the same level and doing a task 10 times without gaining partial exp inbetween is quite hard. Smithing is easily doable though, I could do it after I get 120 dung in a few days if needed. Or extended challenges could be used to narrow it down. Also, shouldn't .6-.9 be .5-.9? ArcticFire (talk) 00:22, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

I see your point, but I don't think exact values are useful in this case. Mostly because the difference between .0 and .9 in a high exp, low volume thing like challenges is abysmal and getting the range for anything other than lvl 99 probably won't happen. No skill is close to even have all levels listed.
But I don't know how to solve the problem either, so I guess continuing your way is the best. But maybe adding a note column with the range?
On another note, I think this from the main Challenge System page should be added to all reward pages:
If a member's first login of the day is into a free-to-play world, if they receive a challenge in a members' skill, it would be appropriate to the capped level (5) instead.
The reward experience is calculated when receiving the challenge, not when handing it in. If the player levels up before handing in the challenge, it will give the same experience it would have at the previous level.
Also, I think it would be good to split up the F2P skills to two tables so it is easier to check the exp. And also just have one entry per level since the exp is based on level, many skills now have several per level. The problem is of course the ones with different exp values since some people put the level they were when they handed it in instead of when they received it, but they could have X1 or X2. With only one entry per level, F2P skills could just have another column like Dungeoneering. ArcticFire (talk) 13:56, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

See meta:Weird Gloop elections/2019/Candidates for candidate presentations, and meta:Weird Gloop elections for how to vote – it'll take maybe 5 minutes.

There are 4 candidates for RuneScape, 4 candidates for OSRS, and 1 candidate for pt-RuneScape. Fruit tree harvesting[edit source]

The new trees are harvested in twos, which is why you divided the XP to get the Guarana harvest XP, correct? Ciku and Carambola appear to both be using the combined harvest XP. All three should use the same method, but I don't know which would be better. Follow the implied pattern of a harvest meaning a fruit or simply displaying what the action rewards. In the case of Tombshrooms, the latter was presumably the only option. Dsctatom (talk) 04:32, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

When I harvest from a guarana during this 1.1 bonus, it's 1474 xp (including 133.9 bonus). If 669.9 per fruit is correct, but it's harvested in twos, you agree it should show the combined XP? Dsctatom (talk) 01:41, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

Re: Winter chill off[edit source]

The XP rates I had posted were what I had received, when taking both the token boost and the plot boost into consideration, and I was doing more research to see how the two were combined. As it stands, the XP modifier with tokens is Base XP * (Token boost + Plot boost), so now if you use the example of the non-eliminated plots, their token boost is now 5.3x whereas yesterday it was 5.2x, if that makes sense. How do you think we should proceed with displaying that on the table? Badassiel 00:26, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Material Cache[edit source]

The rate for materials from material caches is still always, if you get a material it's always that material. It's different from getting or not getting a material, the material drop rates (for caches and other excavation spots) are the rate assuming you roll for a material. The chance of rolling for a material is different, presumably varies by level, mattock etc and currently not known. Please leave the material cache drop rate as always. Thanks, Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 19:43, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Sort of but not really. To me it's like woodcutting, fishing etc, the drop rate for logs/fish is always (or 1/2, 1/3 etc) while birds nests/geodes have a rate, even though you're not guaranteed a log/ore per hit. To me Common implies that you could get something else instead (especially when it's on another page, like the materials page).
You're right that we should probably add a note that you're not guaranteed a material per hit though. I'm also not opposed to making it into a "Material" (or some other name) section that just has the material, and then another section that has the soil, tetra+tome etc. Basically how the other excavation spots are. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 21:28, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
Yeah that's good. Eventually when we have it working, we can also link directly to excavation calc. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 13:01, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Mystery dialogue for site managers[edit source]

Do you think it would accomplish the purpose to do something like this?

Talking to Dr Nabanik about The Vault of Shadows mystery

Or perhaps in a heading instead:

===Talking to Dr Nabanik about The Vault of Shadows mystery===

The main issue I would have with putting all of that dialogue on the site manager's transcript page is that we don't do that for quests/miniquests. Mysteries are obviously a new thing, and aren't really quests or miniquests, but they are really close.

I'm open to suggestions, but the mystery place seems like the right place for the dialogue with the site manager about the mystery. There are almost no headings/anchors on the site manager's pages, so there is a lot of completely unrelated dialogue if we house it on the site manager's page and link to it from the mystery.

I can see both options as viable, so I'm not sure what is best. Personally, I like linking from the site manager to the mystery, and not including all of the unrelated dialogue trees on the mystery page itself, since we already have that context on the site manager page. It's not quite verbatim what is actually said (so not a true transcript), but none of that other dialogue is necessary for the mystery, and it doesn't add anything of value, in my opinion.

What do you think? I'm on discord if you wanted to continue the conversation there instead of on the talk page. Shyaldeth#1241

It actually sounds like it was released as part of the Kerapac Track, had an overlapping use in the Kerapac Track, but isn't actually exclusively used in the Kerapac Track. If a new player can pick it up at any point and still do the tasks, and a player who has completed the tasks at any point can't repeat them, and neither of these statements have to be done during the event period, it sounds much closer to a mini-quest than an event=specific item. Glacor Front transcript page[edit source]

I'm afraid I don't understand your reasoning. What do you mean when you say that the NPC transcripts are "not there"? NeutralinoTalk? This is a pale wisp. 22:47, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

The comparison to Varrock is invalid because the GWD is a narrative experience told via several NPCs in several lines of dialogue. It's much closer to a quest in terms of how it should be transcribed. I should be able to find a comprehensive, all-encompassing documentation of all dialogue related to the dungeon in one article, or four in this case. The arch-glacor especially; there's a large amount of new dialogue spoken by the various NPCs that toggle its mechanics. These NPCs are all in one location in the same narrative moment. If I go to the transcript page for, say, Charos, I'd only see his individual dialogue regarding the arch-glacor. The arch-glacor itself doesn't even have a transcript page for all the NPCs involved with it. NeutralinoTalk? This is a pale wisp. 03:21, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
I don't see why both can't be done. Transcluded transcripts already have plenty of precedent on the wiki.NeutralinoTalk? This is a pale wisp. 11:09, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Sorry, I didn't know notifications are supressed for minor edits. Usually when I don't add or change anything (subjectively) substantial, I mark those quick edits as minor, although I don't really have any preference either way, it's mostly a habit. In case of the pages you mentioned it was moving existing text to a correct date, which I personally considered a minor fix. Either way, I'll try to add edit summaries more often. As for the specific update, the area around the fountain was updated on 11 October with new druids, chickens, oxen, carts with bodies etc. Most of those NPC were removed today and replaced with new variants. Re:Senntisten sewers[edit source]

Senntisten aqueduct and graveyard don't have their own articles. Unless there's a greal deal of explicit in-game mentions of and references to "Senntisten sewers" as a separate location, there's no reason to keep those redlinks. Otherwise, either there's not going to be much information to put on that page, or it's going to end up being duplicate information from TzekHaar Front article. I hope that makes sense. 5-x Talk 21:42, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

Deleted images[edit source]

In my judgement this was an image of text which has already been documented on the page in the section listing the teleport destinations with maps. There's a small entry at RuneScape:Images and media policy#Text which mentions that screenshots should not be used to document "text". In my mind this screenshot is only really doing that. I'd agree though that more visually unique interfaces are worth documenting in their own right though I don't think the fairly standard chat/teleport option ones are worth documenting (beyond maybe having one example on interface or something). That said this section on RS:IMG is pretty old and I may be interpreting it wrong! I don't feel very strongly on this either way: the formal process would be to do a RuneScape:Requests for undeletion but I'm happy to undelete this if people informally think that it is worth having on the page. I'll bring it up in Discord and see what people think. Magic logs detail.pngIsobelTalk page 11:01, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

RE:2h "slot"[edit source]

I've updated the documentation of the templates to clarify when some values should be used. Do you have any old computers you played RuneScape on?[edit source]

Hi Thingummywut!

Recently we've been trying to recover lost versions of RuneScape that Jagex didn't save. We're asking anybody who played from 2001-2012 to check old computers, laptops, hard drives, or backups for old RuneScape files.

Your userpage says you've been editing the Wiki since 2008, so it's very likely that you have one of the missing versions. It would be great if you could search any old devices you may have so that these older versions of RuneScape aren't lost forever.

If you have any questions, feel free to join our Discord which shows the specific files we are looking for in full detail, and where people can help guide you through the search. Alternatively you can read our page on the Lost Media Wiki, and leave a message on my talk page.

Sliske's Labyrinth map 2 clarity[edit source]

Hey howdy!

Was playing through Sliske's Endgame and using your map for the second section, and wanted to let you know that I think I understand why someone reverted it. If someone were to follow the green path grabbing orange along the way, they would miss the circled lore room because (if I recall correctly) the room with an arrow pointing to it would not be rotated correctly.

If they go the other way, doing green first, the player wouldn't be able to continue down the orange path due to the room pointed to in the second picture not being properly.

I understand now looking back at it that the path you intended was to follow green until the last lore room on the path was hit, then turn around and follow the bottom orange path, but it's not clear. I've been trying to think of a way to fix this, but am unsure. Any thoughts? Garfieldcfc (talk) 20:52, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

6-11 update The idea that it should be multiple maps makes a lot of sense. Honestly might just try to extract the paths and make it all nice. What tool did you use to make it? That's fair, though in some ways (because of how the quest determines time) they may be shorter via game rules, even if they take longer to run in real-time. If there's something I'm not seeing though, absolutely point it out Garfieldcfc (talk) 17:36, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

After putting a little more thought in it, is there a way to display an image with layers on the wiki? That could both serve the purpose of making future edits to any map easier and giving people the option to enable/disable paths they care about in a nice lil' interactive way Garfieldcfc (talk) 18:19, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

RE: Grouping drop tables[edit source]

It does not make sense to group items/elements within a table in alphabetical order as there is a Sorting function above the table which does that for you. Simiarly it does not make sense to order things in there by rarity as there is also sorting filter for that as well. Let sorting feature be sorting feature and do it's job. It is nightmare to see table sorted alphabetically when you want to judge loot table quickly, so it is much better to group things by type. In case of Sack of wild rewards alphabetical order means that salvages are separated from one another, which just looks wrong. Just bundle things up in same bucket 'per type'. Same with Sack of very wild rewards, you have 3 items there, Annihilation, Decimation and Obliteration which are same Tier/Grade weapons and originate from same update, so keep them together. Reward caskets go in order from easy to master, so you can also order those as per their level. Bottomline, in case someone wants to look at things alphabetically they can do that with sorting, same with rarity or price, but there is no 'sort by type' feature, so it seems much better to group things by default that way.

Why do you think that order of reward caskets being [easy, elite, hard, medium] is better than [easy, medium, hard, elite]??
When it comes to your example, it literally does not matter as those are all items related to wildy interactions, you can put those elements within the sub-groups in alphabetical order or any other order, just for the love of god do not separate things like salvage from one another. You are just overthinking/overcomplicating this.
But then again you can do whatever you want, im not gonna stop you. In case you really want to put it back in alphabetical order, it's your choice.
Ahh... so you dont remember the "natural order" of casket rewards but you remember the full in-depth item names and know which items belong to which drop table??? Cmon buddy dont be silly.
So in your case, You would know for a fact that, you are searching for Small plated salvage and not Small bladed salvage within some loot table page and search for that name specifically?
Also why are you searching for something specific in a drop table? If you do that, it means that you already know that this specific item will for sure be there, and you have no need to actually look at drop table anymore as you probably memorized it all...
The standard case for Humans is to look at drop table to find what interesting things you can get from some activity, without prior knowledge of what is in there, so having items like decimation, obliteration and annihiliation separated does not do them any favour, if anything it is the opposite of that as it is easier to miss those items when separated. You do not write wiki page for editors, you do it for the people who will use it so think about global usage and how people who see that page first time (or have no idea which items even exist in game) will use it. The "Natural grouping" as you called is more friendly to new users.
Let's end this discussion here because I can see that it will go nowhere. Like said you can do whatever you want, I dont care that much and apparently for you its the end of the world. Also it is very weird that you find alphabetical order more natural to you and easier to understand/navigate than "natural"/grouping order, pretty sure that vast majority of people do not automatically sort things in their heads by alphabetical order, as human brain is designed to work/think/group things in buckets, rather than alphabetical lists. Someone says words 'Bee, Cow, Deer', you should think "animals" and not "oh, what a perfect alphabetical order".

Default actions_ground values[edit source]

Hello, per Forum:Omitting ground actions for items with default actions we are no longer including actions_ground in the item infobox when the values are the default "Take, Examine". Habblet (talk|c) 13:02, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

It was. Habblet (talk|c) 13:19, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

Farming requests[edit source]

Great work on the new farming requests page! The new page is much more readable. This is exactly the type of high-quality updates that makes the wiki a great place!

I am concerned about the assumption that medium-tier animal requests are random. The old page had every possible combination of request listed, and it was possible to plan your farm accordingly. Due to the way the combinations presented itself, one could eliminate the need to have certain breeds of animals on their farm. For example, with chinchompas, one could NEVER raise viridian, azure, and cobalt chinchompas - and it wouldn't affect their ability to complete requests. As long as they had the other types, they were always guaranteed that a request could be fulfilled. Under the assumption that requests are three random breeds, we can still eliminate breeds, but the most that can be eliminated is 2, whereas we could eliminate 3 under the old scheme. This applies to other animals as well, which basically has the consequence of taking up an additional ~5 bank spaces due to needing to have more breeds on standby for requests.

Don't get me wrong, I would much rather prefer it if it were random, as it's much easier to conceptualize, and makes for a cleaner wiki. I will continue to monitor requests. If I find a request combination that wasn't listed on the old page - it hints at the idea that your theory of combinations being random is correct. Until then though, I will keep my bank spaces freed up. I do hope we can eventually put this mystery to rest.

Again, thank you for your contributions! Moontempt (talk) 19:32, 22 November 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for your response! It's a great point raised that the (Fremennik yak, spirit yak) and (spirit yak, Fremennik yak) pairs lead to evidence of the selection being random. I said I would monitor requests to see if any new ones popped up that weren't listed on the previous page - on my FIRST DAY of doing this (because RS was down yesterday :p) I found both a medium pair and a hard pair that were never documented. If it was this easy to find something new, I'd bet there's a lot missing. All in all, everything leads to your theory about requests being random to be correct! Although this will take a hit on bank space, this discovery is a relief, as I no longer have to do complex permutations to see which breeds are extraneous. Now we can apply the same rule to every animal: the player can eliminate the need to have TWO breeds, but not more than two, and as long as they have every other breed, they will always be able to perform a request. Note, this is for medium requests. I haven't even begun to go down the rabbit hole which is hards! Moontempt (talk) 21:21, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
Oddly, the new request I spotted was from Ifaba.. Moontempt (talk) 19:51, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Re: Scan clue data[edit source]

I've been updating them to use the Map pages because the maps that are just using the points from the template aren't super useful since the points have a title, but not the image or detailed description. The map lets the info get transcluded to other pages better (a number of users have pages that transclude them). If we think the tables not necessary we could probably just remove them I guess but we've always had the map and the table which is why I left it that way. As for keeping them updated I added all pages to my watchlist to keep them synced, not the greatest but it works. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 18:46, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

In theory I could probably write a map module that uses dpl/smw etc or vice versa so that we keep both but only need to update one. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 18:50, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
Hmm the old ones have the full descriptions and images too, I must have looked at one that had no image or something when I first started? Either way I'll add the coords as well, didn't realise those are useful. Currently editing the {{Scanclue}} module to add a json property so I can make the maps auto-generate easily, then I'll work on

the map module. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 19:21, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

Tbh I'm not a huge fan of [2]. Is it a pain that the map moves when you open popups near the edge? Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 20:36, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
Can we at least only extend them left, right and top and just not center vertically? So there at least a bit smaller. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 20:57, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
Ok I've created {{Clue map}} which will auto load. Just need to make sure to add aprox param and approximate coordinates for any of he {{Scanclue}} templates missing them. I'll go back through the pages I've done and do that, and change the map pages over tomorrow. Then I'll kill he Template:Scan map template. Note that the new template can also get coordinate and compass clue locations as well. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 23:06, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

Get drop info fraction changes[edit source]

I'm confused by your changes too Module:Get drop info. If anything they should first be done to Module:DropsLine or Module:DataAggregation which displays it on the drop source pages. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 07:31, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

Oh I see, I guess that's something that just never got added too Get drop info but was already in DataAggregation and DropsLine. Weird. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 07:36, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
