Drop Tables[edit source]

Just out of curiosity, why aren't you adding rarity or quantity to some drops? If it's unknown, you could put "Unknown", or do what I do and use common sense and put what your gut feeling would be. If it's wrong, someone will come along and change it eventually. As you add more drop tables, more "needs rarity" or "needs quantity" articles are piled up, so the process just repeats itself. d: Just a suggestion. (: sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 00:11, November 18, 2010 (UTC)

I'm just trying to add drop tables, I don't fight a large variety of creatures so sometimes i don't have a decent idea of what the drop rates are. Adding rarities to all of them would take up a lot more time. I might go back later and fill in some of them, just trying to tidy up what info the pages already have. And the creators of those templates added a note of using only Always, Common, Uncommon, Rare and Very rare for rarity, so i'm respecting that by not putting "Unknown". How is it that you only have 20m in bank? lol With your skills you should be wearing phats and stuff.

Well firstly, I don't view RuneScape as being money-based. A lot of things in the game are driven by money but training skills is not really one of them, many of the fastest methods of gaining xp involves no net gain/loss. Guthix's Symbol[edit source]

Right at the start, when you example the mural of Juna and Fiara:

"[Among the carvings you recognise Juna, Guardian of the Tears of Guthix and Fiara, Guardian of the Fist of Guthix. The other figures have been engulfed by plant growth.]

Orlando Smith: These must be legendary creatures. It is believed Guthix turned to individual beings to retain balance while he slept. How curious that the snake displays what we now recognise as the symbol of Guthix. It is believed this symbol was attributed to Guthix by his followers, but this could show that it's origins are far more ancient."

This could just be Orlando speculating, but I don't see why Jagex has reason to mislead in this regard. Furthermore, it is starting to come to light that some gods got their symbols from Elder Artefacts. In-game info also takes priority over anything said outside of the game. Armadyl symbol.png Nightgunner Talk Illuminated Book of Law.png 08:54, March 16, 2013 (UTC)

You wanted Template:Infobox Seed for that seed page, not Template:Infobox Item. RE:GE v GEP[edit source]

{{GEP}} displays the numbers without commas. {{GEPrice}} displays the numbers with commas. It's best to just use GEP for calculations and use GEPrice everywhere else. GEPrice formats the number so that it's easier to read (1,000,000 versus 1000000). GEPrice can't be used within calculations because it causes an error like this: Expression error: Unrecognised punctuation character ",".. Long answer short : yes, preference. I guess if I wanted to be a turd, I could also quote the style guide. MolMan 22:40, January 15, 2014 (UTC)

Charms[edit source]

If the script completely blocks you from a submission, adding it to the page probably won't help. The bot that deals with the logs has a test too (though I have no idea how good it is), so it might discard your numbers too. I suggest you just add the numbers right to the log, like I did with your last submission here. I trust you enough not to be stupid or vandalous. MolMan 22:09, February 23, 2014 (UTC)

Charm logs[edit source]

Is there a reason you're adding submissions to charm logs manually? Is the script not working for you or something? cqm 06:40, 22 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

I went through some more recent examples of your charm log submissions to test whether they would be rejected by the script and only one was (Mature grotworm iirc). If you're seeing an error where you don't think you should please report it so I can fix the script, ideally with the reason it failed (which should always be reported). Please don't just bypass it, especially without a edit summary.
We are indeed using a different method to submit charm data now too, as AmauriceBot has been retired. Now charm data gets submitted straight to the charm namespace as opposed to a charm log subpage before it is checked by the bot and then merged into the main log. Where the script might have let some submissions through only to be rejected by the bot, now the script does all the checks. I've been thinking about reworking some of the checks too, as low amounts of kills/charms are unlikely to be vandalism however far out they might be from the original data. cqm 09:21, 23 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
It should be the case that an error message should be output if the submission is blocked. The possible errors are as follows in order of when they're checked:
  • "The inputs that were left empty will default to 0. Continue?"
    • Happens when some inputs are left blank, Note, this will cause the submission to be rejected if the kills are left blank.
  • "You have entered a non-number into the form. Please check your submission and try again."
    • Happens when you enter words or symbols instead of numbers.
  • "You have entered a negative number into the form. Please check your submission and try again."
    • Beyond this point, it starts checking against the known data.
  • "Charm data has not been set up for <page>. If you believe this is an error, please contact an administrator."
    • Happens when the charm data hasn't been set up yet. I'm not sure if this would ever get triggered, but it's there just in case.
  • "Charm data could not be found for <page>. If you believe this is an error, please contact an administrator."
    • Happens when the relevant Charm: page exists, but the script couldn't find the correct template on the page.
  • "The number of kills you have submitted is above the allowed amount per submission."
    • Happens on any submission with more than 5k kills.
  • "The total amount of kills you submitted is below the required amount of <minKills>. You can only submit charm data for <minKills> kills or more."
    • minKills is either 50 kills for normal monsters, or 15 for difficult monsters such as Nex, Vorago, etc.
  • The next check tests if there were more charms than kills, or if the multiples are incorrect, i.e. if the monster drops 2 charms at once and you submitted an odd number.
  • The next one replicates the more charms than monsters test, as it didn't work when it passed the check for multiples. (I'll probably remove the first occurrence of that test).
  • Next we calculate a z-score, see wikipedia:Statistical hypothesis testing#Common test statistics (we're using a 2 proportion z-test). It works by testing if the amount of charms submitted is more than a certain amount of standard deviations away from the current data. If it's more than 3 and the known data has more than 1k kills it'll get rejected (and you'll get warned). If it's more than 2 standard deviations and the known data is more than 500 kills it'll get logged on RS:CVU/C. The logged submission will also be tagged in recent changes.
If you see no message the script has either hit an error or the submission has been made. If you think the former has happened, please tell me the monster and the data you were trying to submit so I can try and replicate the bug (and hopefully fix it :)) Hope this helps. cqm 06:44, 24 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

To explain: we decided on using .png here and added it to our images and media policy in 2011. All of our templates that provide inventory icons like {{Plink}}, {{Plinkp}}, etc. only work when the extension is lower case. There's obviously no technical restriction on using .PNG, but it's better to be consistent. --Iiii I I I 06:31, November 15, 2016 (UTC)

Hey, nice work with the image transparencies :) Just wanted to point out to you to be careful to make sure the image has an alpha channel (if you're using GIMP you can do this by going to Layer > Transparency > Add Alpha Channel) before doing transparency, otherwise the background will be replaced with white rather than being transparent (e.g. File:Avan.png). Im saying theoretically because I usually take breaks and havent done it for 1 full hour without breaks.

Who do I send the video to once I have it done ? Do I just post in in discord ?

Danis59 (talk) 09:18, September 11, 2017 (UTC)

Yeah that sounds about right since it is really click intensive it's hard to go one full hour without breaks. I usually just take breaks every 10-20 minutes so I wouldnt get tired of it. But somebody more hardcore could probably manage that.

Hi Samba,

If you're not already aware, The RuneScape Wiki is migrating to a new wiki with Jagex's direct support. In order to raise awareness, we currently have an ongoing thread (Forum:Leaving Wikia) that discusses all the changes: Why we're moving, where the new wiki will be, and what our next plans are. It would be great if you could give it a read and a comment so that you're aware of the changes!

Metamorphic geode triskelion piece drop chance[edit source]

Hey Samba, I noticed that you changed the chance of getting crystal triskelion pieces from metamorphic geodes from 1/16 to 1/48, based on the logic that the 1/16 chance is divided between the three pieces. However, this is not quite right, as only one of the trisk pieces is on the drop table at any one time, the next one in the series. So, if you were to roll a second roll for which piece was dropped in order to divide the chances, the next piece would have a 100% chance, and the other pieces would have a 0% chance. So, they are properly displayed as having a 1/16 drop chance, with the understanding that only one of the three pieces is a valid drop at any given time. -- F-Lambda (talk) 19:43, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

Do you have any old computers you played RuneScape on?[edit source]

Hi Samba37!

Recently we've been trying to recover lost versions of RuneScape that Jagex didn't save. We're asking anybody who played from 2001-2012 to check old computers, laptops, hard drives, or backups for old RuneScape files.

Your userpage says you've been editing the Wiki since 2008, so it's very likely that you have one of the missing versions. It would be great if you could search any old devices you may have so that these older versions of RuneScape aren't lost forever.

If you have any questions, feel free to join our Discord which shows the specific files we are looking for in full detail, and where people can help guide you through the search. Alternatively you can read our page on the Lost Media Wiki, and leave a message on my talk page.
