Visual Editor strikes again[edit source]

link Lol! All I actually did was update the combat lvl for Iron drags. Thanks for making your fix-edit. I just didn't want you to think it was intentional. Btw, is there a direct link to force Source Editor to show up instead of Visual when I hit Edit? I'm sure there is an automatic setting for users, but I'm wondering if I can force it with a special URI. Or, is there any way to make Source Editor the default for everyone? Please leave any reply here rather than my own page. 184.63.125.114 18:34, June 14, 2016 (UTC)

The visual editor is run with the url parameter veaction=edit. Source is run with action=edit. You can use JavaScript in a browser extension to replace all such urls to gain access to the source editor if you are this opposed to making a Wikia account. MolMan 18:40, June 14, 2016 (UTC)
I know about the parameters ?veaction=edit and ?action=edit They're no different than clicking the Edit button and Classic Editor sub-button, respectively. The former is for the editor overview and the latter is to open the editor as a new webpage. I end up on Visual Editor when I click the Classic Editor and it opens the new webpage in the Visual tab. I then click the Source tab and do all my edits there. It's only pages that are too complex for the Visual Editor when the Source tab is opened by default. 184.63.125.114 19:00, June 14, 2016 (UTC)
Can you give me an example page to work off of? MolMan 19:02, June 14, 2016 (UTC)
Almost every single one of them opens up in Classic Editor > Visual tab. On the rare occasion, it will open up Source tab instead and throw an error message above the editor saying that the code was too complex or something for Visual mode. Log out and give it a try. 184.63.125.114 19:07, June 14, 2016 (UTC)
I'll see if there's anything I can figure out. In the mean time, you will probably have better luck asking onei. MolMan 19:11, June 14, 2016 (UTC)
I know VE does that stuff automatically, single thing I like about VE is that it removed those redundant trailing spaces. :P But yeah, I knew it wasn't intentional. And it seems Mol covered most of it above. But yeah if you want to use the source editor, you'd have make an account. ;) Farming-icon.png Salix (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 20:54, June 14, 2016 (UTC)
One of the appeals of a wiki is that I don't need yet another account to make changes. I've made it this far w/o one, so I'm going to ride it out. Adblockers and custom CSS/JS cover the rest well enough. Anyway, so long as you knew it wasn't me personally making the error, this convo has been satisfied. I agree about the trailing spaces, so VE is at least good for something. 184.63.125.114 22:47, June 14, 2016 (UTC)

Comma defenders[edit source]

Thanks for standing up for the humble comma's place as a number separator. Too many people on this wiki hate commas for some reason. Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 09:37, June 29, 2016 (UTC)

I feel like the sort of people who hate number separators are the same people who'll use words like Tsar/Czar or Knife when spelling things phonetically over the phone. RE: S after link in navbox[edit source]

Would that also be the reason for the following? Recently I've noticed when going to a page that is included in a navbox and looking at the navbox on said page, the page's link inside the navbox is no longer black non-linked text, and is instead a link again with the extension ?n=[navbox title] in it. Not sure that's inherently a good reason -- there are plenty of very high-use templates and modules that have no protection. But my concern was less about the protection and more about not giving that guy a proper explanation of the issue. NZQARCH (talk) 08:19, July 20, 2016 (UTC)

RE: Templates![edit source]

Thanks! Your Navbox watch page has been extremely helpful in determining which templates to target. =D

Aescopalus (talk) 00:19, September 1, 2016 (UTC)

My goal with the collapsed groups was to keep equipment navboxes small for items that are essentially the same or treasure trail. My thoughts are that the best navboxes are the ones with consistent styles, and are as small as possible while maximizing content (see template:Staff and template:Melee bodies from before and after my edits).

I've been implementing these collapsed groups where possible on most of the equipment templates I've been modifying - let me know if you think larger templates without collapsed groups (per your modification to template:Ranged headgear is better across the board. Presentation-wise, I think it would be best to be consistent in that decision across all equipment nav templates.

Thanks again, and I appreciate the feedback!

Aescopalus (talk) 15:43, September 24, 2016 (UTC)

Good point with all revealed or all grouped.

New proposal for the boxes: All revealed but grouped. If the state of the collapsible navbox is left uncollapsed as default, then the items won't, by default, be hidden.

On the other hand, they'll still be slightly more segregated by the grouping and will help with some of the clutter of the larger navboxes (what I'm looking to achieve).

Redundant (?) spaces[edit source]

Oh, I always thought text being clumped together was messy and unclear. I guess I was thinking something alike space between sections and stuff. I guess it's down to personal preference, really. Or is there a style guide for stuff like this somewhere? I can as well stop doing this for the articles that I go through. Thingummywut (talk) 09:32, September 9, 2016 (UTC)

Yup, I've noticed, and thought that the existing convention was messy. Just like not having space between titles (at least above them) would definitely be messy. I'd guess the folks at Wikipedia have this stuff down well, and they use spacing in articles like Wikipedia:Manual of Style and Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Manual of Style Thingummywut (talk) 09:50, September 9, 2016 (UTC)
Oh, just noticed that you keep reverting my spacings. I'll just stop. Sorry! :D Thingummywut (talk) 10:27, September 13, 2016 (UTC)

Re: Cresbot and hiscore?[edit source]

Actually Dungeoneering broke it. It's never worked as long as Cresbot has run the task and it broke sometime during Amaurice tenure as the task operator.

The problem is as follows:

  • Player A has 99 in all 27 skills.
  • Player B has 99 in 25 skills, 120 in Dungeoneering and 98 in Invention.

Both Player A and Player B have the required total level to appear over the level required for all 99s, 2673. The also both have the required experience (as an addendum, Invention made this much trickier due to the difference in experience). To correctly differentiate Player A from Player B, we can do a individual hiscores lookup.

Due to how the hiscores is ranked we need to take minimum level as a starting point. At time of writing, there are 32,259 players with the minimum required total level. We can safely ignore any player with the current maximum level, 2715, allowing us to reduce the total required number of players by 10,788 to 21,471. Next we need to get the display names of all those accounts which we can do by scraping the HTML of the hiscores page which will give us 25 at a time which is 859 pages. Due to Jagex's anti-DOS software, we are limited to 5 pages per minute which means it would take 172 minutes (just shy of 3 hours) to collect all the required names.

Once it has all of these names, you can then query the API for each individual player. I believe TyBot waits for 2 seconds between requests, which is probably the same for the hiscores API. For all 21,471 players, this would take a further 715 minutes, or almost 12 hours. All together this is roughly 15 hours.

You could speed it up by looking up players in the wait periods between scraping the hiscores pages, which allows roughly 50 players per minute allowing the task to take about 7 hours instead. You could probably tie the 99 and 120s together to save time. Knowing the minimum required experience before looking up each player would also speed up the task as you can check that before looking them up individually. You might get that down to 5-6 hours instead.

Moving onto the F2P hiscores, the minimum required total level is 1629, which 418,363 players currently have, although you can discount all players with a level above 1650 after factoring max level of dungeoneering, which reduces that number by 408,722 to 9,641. This would require 386 pages to be looked at, again in batches of 25, taking 77 minutes, or about 1.3 hours. Adding to that the individual player lookups, which is 321 minutes or 5.3 hours, we get 6.6 hours. Again, we could probably reduce that based on experience looking at minimum and maximum, but due to the endless combinations of levels I'd be surprised if we got it down to less than 6 hours.

All together that's 12.5 hours of non-stop running, including the 0.5 hours the task currently takes, making the task take 25 times longer than it currently does. And because players keep gaining levels, it will keep taking longer with each day.

Hope that answers the question :) cqm 17:37, 3 Oct 2016 (UTC) (UTC)

Re: Arc stuff[edit source]

Eh, I was a bit conflicted. I was aware of the existing templates, but I felt these 2 things (hence the conflicting feeling)

  • The Arc template says raw, produced resources, this makes it sound as if the list should be complete.
  • Adding all the mushrooms, berries, seeds and birds would make the template huge.

Personally I feel like a solution would be to add a general link 'Birds', 'Berries' etc. But since I didn't want to make that decision I just added the todo in the edit message. Fearthe1337 (talk) 19:06, October 10, 2016 (UTC)

Stoneberries and Rosaberries[edit source]

Sorry if this isn't really how this should be done, but I'm inexperienced at wiki editing, so this is me passing this info about arc-berries on to someone who seems to be in charge of a lot of the wiki pages on them :)

It's possible to find a map to an uncharted isle while training - for me, it happened on a serenity pillar. A chest on the island contained the standard taijitu, but also a stoneberry seed. Uncertain if these seeds are exclusive to isles found this way, but stoneberry examine (thought to be extinct) suggests it's unlikely they can be obtained any other way than in uncharted chests.

The stoneberry seed was planted alongside a rumberry seed in Tuai Leit. On harvesting the rumberry (the stoneberry is still growing), a rosaberry seed was received as well as the rumberries and seeds. Rosaberries appear to be a hybrid of rumberries and stoneberries, and this may be the only way to obtain them.

The examine on rosaberries notes that they're usually sterile, so this may be as far as this breeding line goes. The seed's been planted next to the growing stoneberries - this probably won't result in another hybrid, but since the two planters are desynced, I'll be trying exuberries alongside both next.

Hope this sheds some light on arcberries!

RE: Chromatic partyhat[edit source]

Maybe I didn't explain it properly. The problem is not that the text is not clear. The problem is that the text is not needed. If the description had stated to "unlock all rewards", then the clarifying part about not needing the partyhat would be needed, but that is not what the description says. It says "purchase all rewards from Gypsy Aris." The clarifying part is "from Gypsy Aris." There's no way that statement could be confused to mean anything else if it was read properly. If the reader doesn't know which rewards are from Gypsy Aris, they can navigate to that page to find out. Moontempt (talk) 00:48, October 28, 2016 (UTC)

I mean, I've put clarifying information like that into articles in the past, and it was reverted for being "not needed", so now I am legitimately confused which is the proper thing to do. :) Moontempt (talk) 01:05, October 28, 2016 (UTC)

Re:Teleports nav[edit source]

Yes, I'm splitting Template:Teleportation into Template:Teleport spells and Template:Magic tablets. I'm also removing Template:Teleportation from most of the item pages because teleportation is not their primary purpose – the items basically have no connection with each other (apart from the ability to teleport), so I don't think they warrant their own navbox. Linking to the section on Teleportation#Various items somewhere in the beginning should be enough. Almost all of them already have a navbox anyway, from other quests, tasks, etc. --Iiii I I I 21:36, November 26, 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your nomination for the Wikian as well! I really do respect this wiki and I try to contribute as much as I can, so being recognized means a lot! Moontempt (talk) 15:55, December 15, 2016 (UTC)

RE: Spans are confusing[edit source]

I'm a software developer IRL but front-end has always been the death of me. Anyways, thanks for catching that, and also explains the trailing text thing! Also, now that I'm writing on your talk page, I finally have an excuse to use my signature for the first time, so thanks for that as well, because I was pretty proud to show it off, because like I said, front-end is impossible for me. xD Mining.pngMoontemptMithril bar.png 03:04, December 16, 2016 (UTC)

Yup, I'm sure and aware that others are capitalised. It's kind of a glitch I assume, and will be recapitalising if Jagex fixes it. 5K already? Damn. Thingummywut (talk) 12:46, December 19, 2016 (UTC)

Obi'Sooth[edit source]

I wouldn't necessarily consider Raven calling Obi'Sooth "he" indicative of gender, since he/him are often used as "default" pronouns, and Armadyl's dialogue seems to be written in a way to avoid using any pronouns whatsoever. Raven also referred to Xau-Tak as "he", despite being pretty much confirmed genderless. We should probably just directly ask Raven on twitter in the new year. Re:Sliske[edit source]

Aye, but that was just a memory. He has considerably bigger roles in FotG and RotM, whereas he doesn't appear in CoM at all in present time. He is mentioned, however, and the plot is at least loosely related to Endgame (I dunno, I'll find out when I do that quest - and hopefully it is a good deal better than CoM...), wherefore I concluded that it's related to the series. Music track numbers[edit source]

Hi there! I just saw you updated the music track numbers. Was interested. How are the numbers of the tracks determined? Thanks, --Galian prist (talk) 12:47, December 28, 2016 (UTC)

Error on your Profile Notes :P[edit source]

Was looking at your Profile and On your profile you have in your notes for your 120 Slayer Goal that it'll be a req for comp when Menaphos is released in June. That's incorrect silly. It'll become a comp req in September when the Second Expansion is released. Just thought I'd let you know! :) Blueday0100 (talk) 23:43, January 1, 2017 (UTC)

RE: Musical instruments[edit source]

Just came back from a break and saw your message. Would love to add instruments to the music articles but I don't know how I should go about finding out which instruments are used. (I have a feeling my 2 years of musical experience isn't going to cut it.) Any ideas? --Galian prist (talk) 21:18, January 7, 2017 (UTC)

Memorial to Guthix - Engram Charging Table[edit source]

Hey - just wanted to say thanks for the cleanup on the table I created for Memorial to Guthix with all the shard/energy data for engram charging. I wanted to work some more on it, but ran out of time before work. Admittedly, it was a bit of a rush job which I was going to fix up a bit after work, but looks like you and Iiii I I I got it all sorted out before I got back. Thanks ;)

Wiki Tool for Money Making Guide Maintenance[edit source]

For the Money making guides, having you ever seen a wiki tool that would allow you to set a min threshold so that if one of the guides dropped below a certain value (ie: 500k or 1m gp) that the guide would no longer be listed, but if the guide ever got back above that value, it would relist?

There's about 12 guides atm in the negative gains, 4 or 5 pretty seriously (over 1m). I kinda didn't want to suggest just deleting them.

The perk of this tool is that editors could create however many Money Making Guides, and the system would automatically keep or remove them (from the displayed list) as long as they meet the minimum criteria.

If needed, I guess if someone really wants to delete obsolete money making guides, there could be a final tool that pings an admin saying "I've been below threshold for [X] days. Delete me."

Just a thought and question. --Deltaslug (talk) 00:16, January 12, 2017 (UTC)

Fair enough. didn't think there was one. as for creating it ... I'd say it is a really low priority unless you could think of other spots to use it too. --Deltaslug (talk) 00:33, January 12, 2017 (UTC)

New Clue? Or Coordinate Shift? I think a Shift.[edit source]

So, I don't know if Jagex updated the coordinates of Duel Arena's Coordinate clue slightly or if a clanmate got a new clue: db7db27d2b.jpg

02 Degrees 33 Minutes North; 28 Degrees 45 Minutes East

I took a screenshot of new location after helping them find it: http://screencloud.net/v/r260

Personally, I think the coordinates were just shifted 3 Minutes South because it used to be within an obstacle-less arena. But the final verdict I'll leave to you. Plus it'd take some Wikia editing to make the change, editing I'm not sure how to do! :P EDit forgot to signature first time... Woops Blueday0100 (talk) 12:52, January 23, 2017 (UTC)

Fairy nuff, I agree with you about those things having their own pages (e.g. the loved up walk anim is on the SGS page, even though it's not from SGS), however it'd still be nice for them to be on there in the meantime Star Talk ayy lmao ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) 12:19, February 13, 2017 (UTC)
As the person who added them, hopping in to follow up here - the pages need to be on there. While they don't have an individual page, they are visible on those pages and deserve to be shown in the rewards with the rest of the item rewards. If you'd like to make the redirects a bit more direct (like each override being more visible) that's fine, but in the meanwhile they shouldn't be removed from the reward section. They ARE rewards. PM Me in-game tomorrow. you know who.[edit source]

Found something out that seems like it'll take someone with your know-how to make the edits involving mechanics on inferior Player-owned Ports armours. I found they can be alched but only after they've been equipped first. I have the values for "fresh" alching. I think they follow the same degrading value mechanic as when you die in Wilderness with them to Pker. If I see you before you see me I'll pm you about it. Re:Official quotes?[edit source]

They're from the former official wiki's articles on each quest, under the "Introduction" section. New quests released after it shut down obviously don't have entries, so I just took the relevant lines from news updates for them. --Iiii I I I 08:47, February 24, 2017 (UTC)
