Maps[edit source]

Hi! Great job with the maps -- it's nice to see somebody picking them up, and they look really good! What program are you using to make the maps?

I have a couple pieces of feedback for the maps that may be useful:

 • When you do maps for multi-level areas/dungeons (like Map:Temple of Marimbo First Floor), could you put all of the levels on one map or image?
 • Is there a reason the dots/icons on the Temple of Marimbo map are so small?
 • Could you consider adding more detail to maps like Map:Lair of Tarn Razorlor? Our original map (:File:Tarnslairmap.gif) has a bunch of things notated, although it's not clear what all of them are because there's no key. But I think it would be a good idea to add things like the toad batta spawn, traps, other monsters, and a path from the entrance to the end. Does that seem reasonable?

I have a folder with about 400 unique (unlabelled) ingame dungeon maps. Would it make your mapmaking any easier if I provided those to you?

Thanks and feel free to pop into Special:Chat if you want to talk more.

ʞooɔ 07:03, April 24, 2015 (UTC)

I only redid the maps are they were posted (as being incorrect). I can redo the Temple of Marimbo to be together. I made the dots smaller to fit the map - the map itself was pulled from the Minimap (it isn't located on the world map since it's upstairs).
I wanted to avoid the clutter of the Lair of Tarn Razorlor the previous map had - my version is only the direct route from the entrance to Tarn (ignoring random paths that lead you no where). I can add the other information if I had it; I don't have time right now to wander the dungeon looking for items/monsters/traps etc. I did include the paths for the platform jumps though. ;)

Maps yet again[edit source]

Hey, awesome work on the maps! Just one small request: like you did with the Evil Chicken Lair map, please just upload the new map over the old one (there's a link under the history to do so), because then we do keep archived versions of the images as they used to be. And you can use the template new name to add them to the speedy move category to give it a proper filename. :) User talk:ThePsionic.png: RS3 Inventory image of User talk:ThePsionic ThePsionic Special:Contributions/ThePsionic.png: RS3 Inventory image of Special:Contributions/ThePsionic 23:24, April 28, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip - I'll definitely start doing that. Some of the file names were cryptic so I've just been creating a new page with a decent name. I still have a lot to learn.. I'll just keep pumping out maps. (; -- LDemonl (talk) 01:06, April 29, 2015 (UTC)
Good work on all the maps, but I'd like to reiterate the above point. Also, if you merge images of different floors into one image, see if they can be removed from all articles (replaced with your new map), and mark them for deletion using the Reason template. That way the old images can be cleaned up; we currently have File:Legends dungeon 1.png, [File:Legends dungeon 2.png, File:Kharazi dungeon part 1.png and your new map File:Viyeldi caves map.png. If you upload a new image, could you use "<location> map.png" as a standard, e.g. "Viyeldi caves map.png". IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 06:18, May 7, 2015 (UTC)
A valid point. I left the other maps because I didn't want to go through and re-write area/quest guides to accomodate the new map. I can't do everything. I'm adding the tools to get these pages updated. I will start naming things differently, though. -- LDemonl (talk) 06:27, May 7, 2015 (UTC)

Marking for deletion[edit source]

Maybe I should've mentioned this originally, but when you mark a file for deletion, could you please make sure that no (mainspace) article still uses it? The admin who'll delete the file doesn't know the proper context to fix the articles that still use it. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 03:32, May 25, 2015 (UTC)

I only saw one, but I just wanted to catch it early to prevent a whole horde of maps needing to be redone. :P Thanks for picking up on the maps! ;) I was going good, but most of what's left is lacking information or doesn't have a map available so they require someone going into the game to acquire NPC information or an up to date map. I haven't had the time to visit the places in game. Some maps can be salvaged with the current ones, but they lack any indication of NPCs, quest starts/items, etc so I would simply be guessing. - lDemonlTalk .:. 23:10, June 14, 2015 (UTC)

How do i help with this matter? MrLexod 16:25, August 22, 2015 (UTC)Mrlexod

Hiya, It's great you're interested in helping with the community maps project. The key to this project is consistency, so check out the link provided and scroll to the bottom of the page. This list consists of maps that are fully implemented - modified graphically and imagemapped with links for convenience. All of the information you will need to aid on this project can be found on the provided page - including materials to use (dots for identification, a compass, etc). It is imperative you look at the completed ones, however, before marking anything as ready to be imagemapped - otherwise we have to go back through and re-do them again.
If you're looking for the most helpful thing to do at this moment, we really need the 'maps to be imagemapped' section cut down to size. Instructions on how to use the imagemapping website can be found at the top of the project page and you can view completed maps' edit pages to see their implementation on the wiki. Hope this helps! - LDemonl (talk) 16:38, August 22, 2015 (UTC)

Construction template[edit source]

Hey, what are you doing with the construction calculator template(s)? Looks interesting. ʞooɔ 12:45, November 25, 2015 (UTC)

Hey i'm working on making a single calculator page for each skill with sub-templates for each 'category'. This would effectively limit the number of individual pages and bring all of the information into the same page. By 'category' there would be, for the construction example, supplies (in general), popular methods, and each individual room. In this way, skills like Fletching would have a break down for each 'type' of wood used, etc. Money guides etc would still be separate, but the information included in those could be integrated into this version along with level goals. By keeping all of this information broken onto smaller sub-templates, the size and load limits would be prevented.
I'm unfamiliar with the wiki's code markup so I'm running into some walls, but feel free to make some edits to the code if you know it any better. I'll keep working on it as I get time. - lDemonlTalk .:. 20:27, November 25, 2015 (UTC)
You should look into using Scribunto and Lua (example: Module:Skill guide). Might be much more flexible for what you're planning. ʞooɔ 08:11, November 26, 2015 (UTC)
Yeah I've been trying to stick as closely to the new calculator guidelines as possible to prevent the need to re-do them, but I keep running into problems with the template variables. Not sure why it's being so difficult for me. :P - lDemonlTalk .:. 21:09, November 26, 2015 (UTC)
So is there a docs page for that module? - lDemonlTalk .:. 01:02, November 29, 2015 (UTC)
Nevermind, I just followed it down the rabbit hole. - lDemonlTalk .:. 01:21, November 29, 2015 (UTC)

Don't mind it at all! I strongly encourage copying existing modules. Let me know if you have any questions, and I'd probably be interested in helping. ʞooɔ 04:54, November 29, 2015 (UTC)

I am now. ʞooɔ 05:25, November 29, 2015 (UTC)
It occurs to me that you might want to just re-use the existing skill calculator stuff that I made, and modify it to make it better -- examples skill calculator, efficiency, personalized guide. What do you think? ʞooɔ 08:11, November 29, 2015 (UTC)
My only gripe with those existing calculators is the inclusion of 'estimated time' which is entirely subjective and may change based on either player focus or adjustments in game mechanics. Seems frivolous. At any rate, I got mine working - if you like what I have, you can dissect it and meld it into yours. The only real end-goal is a standard calculator for our skill Calculators page so they're consistent, accurate, and effective. - lDemonlTalk .:. 09:05, November 29, 2015 (UTC)

Hey, just thought I'd drop by and say good job, its looking great. I'm assuming this it is still WIP, but I have a few suggestions anyway:

 • Looks like it doesn't check for currToggle, so setting an experience value script errors it (e.g. when fetching from hiscores)
 • Usage of form calculator would be great
 • Checkbox for chisel?

Anyway, nice work. Let me know if you want any help. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 22:51, December 3, 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, i've been more focused on the functionality than the cosmetics of it thus far. The entire thing is run via LUA module. You're welcome to contribute if you see somewhere you can make it work. - lDemonlTalk .:. 03:25, December 4, 2015 (UTC)
My end-goal is to make the 'Module:Skill calc' generic enough that it will work with all skill calcs dependent on the information given. 'Module:Skill calc/elts' sets all of the table headers... so I'm breaking all of the skills into 3 categories to make 3 variations of the main function which will work convincingly for each skill. This could, of course, be expanded to use 'efficiency', although I oppose its inclusion. >_> - lDemonlTalk .:. 05:53, December 4, 2015 (UTC)
I started looking at the Form calculator and it seems rather clunky... the calculator page goes from a couple lines to a wall of wikitext. What is the biggest benefit of using it vs how it is currently? - lDemonlTalk .:. 05:59, December 8, 2015 (UTC)
The main reason for the form calculator template is to enable (automatic) usage tracking (via Category:Form calculators and/or WhatTranscludesThis), but also to make it easy to do global changes - such as adding the 'hidden' class to all calculator configs to hide it on mobile, or providing the standard no-JS message. I know it's clunky, but that's just how wikicode is, lol - I do have a script to convert from the raw code to the template, though.
I'll see about some contributions to the module. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 19:02, December 13, 2015 (UTC)

Sigh. ok then. I'll try to force myself to use the super clunky wikicode.. :P Thanks for that quickfix on the module oversight. I'm trying to make a more generalized module so that it works for all skills.. with slight modifications. - lDemonlTalk .:. 21:18, December 13, 2015 (UTC)

Module:Augmented skilling xp[edit source]

Just a heads up, the Module:Augmented skilling xp lua calculator will need a bit of work done so it will pass along correct tool experience rates for Smithing and Firemaking. Currently it's hard-coded in a way that only allows for it to calculate Fishing, Mining, and Woodcutting correctly:

function p.skillingXPToRawAugmentXP(xp, enlightened)
	return math.floor(xp * 118 * (1 + (0.03 * enlightened)))
end

We'll need to fix the 118 into a variable we can adjust; it needs to be a 65 for Firemaking, and a 78 for Smithing. This shouldn't be too difficult, but I'll have to find the time to test it which might take a bit if no one else gets to it before me. — Heaven Sent (talk) 07:30, February 21, 2017 (UTC)
