Image names[edit source]

Information icon.svg

Hi IsobelJ, thank you for uploading an image to the RuneScape wiki. However it has been moved/re-uploaded to File:Scan clue Dorgesh-kaan marketplace.png as per the Images and media policy, specifically this subsection. In the future, it would be helpful if you could upload images under a more suitable or descriptive name. Thank you,

Just a heads up, many clue images have bad names, especially in the scan and compass sections. It's not the best idea to just replicate the names when replacing jpegs, unless they're in the format I just moved that one too (Scan/Compass clue Kingdom/City specific location). Re:Moving pages[edit source]

I don't know of any guide unfortunately, but I'll do my best to explain each of your questions :)

I'm guessing you understand the idea behind a redirect. We normally use them in search to point people who may not know the exact name to point them to the correct name. A good example is Kril -> K'ril Tsutsaroth. MediaWiki (the software the wiki runs on) will redirect you to the page linked from Kril if you land on it. But when something redirects to the redirect, the mediawiki goes to the page targeted in the first redirect and can't go any further.

Double redirects on Special:WhatLinksHere look like [[w:c:camtest:Special:WhatLinksHere/Scrapbook|this]]. Anything that links directly to the target page is not indented. Anything that is indirectly linked, via redirect, is indented. What we're trying to avoid is the second level of indentation. Normally we see this for pages, but it also applies to Go-search (the default search for mediawiki, but not on wikia). Basically, If you see an indented redirect, you need to change it to link directly to the intended page.

Special:DoubleRedirects is probably the best tool in existence for fixing the redirects, although it only updates every 24 hours. Ideally they should be fixed before it gets that far. When they exist (there's none there at the moment), DoubleRedirects looks something like this:

Redirect1 (edit) -> Redirect2 -> Target page

All you need to do is change the content of Redirect1 from #REDIRECT [[Redirect2]] to #REDIRECT [[Target page]]. You may need to be in the Source mode of the editor to do this, I'm not sure. If you're fixing the redirects before they appear on DoubleRedirects, go back to WhatLinksHere and change the indented redirect to link directly to the target page.

Wanted pages are what we commonly call redlinks. They look something like this: User:Cåm/test. All they are are pages that have been deleted, moved or haven't been created yet. When moving a page, you'll normally leave a redirect behind preventing the wanted page (although possibly causing a double redirect) but this isn't always desired. One example of where redirects should not exist is in the File: namespace. If you link to a file that is a redirect to another file, the image won't display. This is why it's important to move all the links to file when moving them. Exchange pages are another example. I'm not sure if the template used in exchange pages work with redirects, but due to the complexity I would always make sure everything links directly.

Other rare cases might be Template:Infobox Bonuses. Normally templates are fine being redirected, they will show the template targeted by the redirect. With Infobox bonuses this is correct, but the item compare script relies on every page having that specific template. If the template is a redirect to it, the compare script will cease to work. Examples like this aren't too common an we can deal with them as they arise.

To fix wanted pages simply change the redlink to whatever it should be. This might be correcting a spelling mistake or someone not knowing what the correct page is. Sometimes it might be left over from the page being deleted, in which case the link should be changed to something more appropriate or just de-linked. If you're not sure where it should go, try searching for what you think the page might be and then going back and fixing the page.

On some occasions wanted pages might contain a false positive, where it says there is a redlink but there isn't. This is usually caused by the link being part of a template found on the page which causes the page to cache and say it has a redlink. To fix this simply go to edit the page, change absolutely nothing, and save the page. This will fix 99% of issues with page caching. If it looks like there's still a link, there might be a link in a used template that hasn't been fixed, at which point we have to trawl through every template the page uses to find the redlink. It's not always even shown on the page either.

Finally, there are 4 types of wanted page: Special:Wantedcategories, Special:Wantedfiles, Special:Wantedtemplates and Special:Wantedpages. Each is hopefully self explanatory as to it's function. Wantedpages will not report on user and user talk pages. So my example redlink above to a non-existant subpage in my userspace will never return a result. If you want to check how many result of any particular wanted page there are you can check RS:MAINTENANCE.

Sorry for this being so much of a text wall, but I hope this answers all your questions. If you have any more, let me know :) cqm 11:25, 27 Jun 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

If you want to learn any other stuff, you could check out WP's help pages. They operate under mediawiki as well, so almost all of the technical rules are the same there as over here (the rules on what pages to make, etc. etc. aren't). MediaWiki also does a wonderful job of explaining basic stuff. Cåm has made it clear that we can help, but there's already documentation out there. Not trying to shut you up, just giving you another good source to use. MolMan 14:59, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

They're always dropped in conjunction with a rare drop table drop. Suppa chuppa Talk 14:15, August 1, 2013 (UTC)

If that happens, then sure. However, I suspect that if you get it as a drop with something that we don't know is on the rdt, it's more likely that the item is on the rdt and we just didn't know it yet. Suppa chuppa Talk 14:31, August 1, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Superior tree-shaking scrimshaw[edit source]

While I am not fully aware of all defaults/choices on this wiki myself, even items without stats like an Emerald ring have the equipment info boxes, showing no stats at all. It might be better to ask in chat what to do about them, but if the info box is removed, at the very least should text be added to explicitly state it has no bonuses of any kind. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 11:36, August 15, 2013 (UTC)

Two things[edit source]

  1. The "Item inventory images" category does not need to be added by you. It is part of the inventory license template, and therefore anything you add the license to will be categorised automatically. The same goes for any other image you add a template to.
  2. You need to reupload this. It glitched on upload, but reuploading it should fix it.

Thanks. Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 22:52, August 20, 2013 (UTC)

  1. No idea, but the duplicate usually gets removed anyway.
  2. Sorry, again I have no idea. Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 23:01, August 20, 2013 (UTC)

Re:Graphical updates[edit source]

Heh, thanks for notifying me, but alas, I no longer have time to actively maintain all GU pages. I've dropped inventory because it's arguably thr least interesting page, and the tiny changes to the key ring icon really aren't worthwhile to add (though feel free to do so if you want to!). I'm busy reworking the chatheads subpages, as well as NPCs/gnomes, monsters and location, in case you wanted to know. =) User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 13:21, September 17, 2013 (UTC)

Upload the old revision as a separate file and add {{historical image}} to the upload summary (in addition to licenses and/or categories). I'd highly appreciate some help! If you wish to help out with other pages as well, most of them use special templates, so check the source of the pages and ask me if you need antyhing. =) User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 15:29, September 17, 2013 (UTC)

Satchel DIIs[edit source]

It looks as if the satchel images you've uploaded have high lighting detail. Just be sure to double check your graphics options to make sure the following are set:

  • Lighting detail is set to Low. This ensures the area lighting doesn't affect the lighting of the image.
  • Fog is set to Off. This ensures that the fog doesn't go over the image (which in some cases it does) so keep it off just in case.
  • Ground decoration is set to Off. Just so you don't have rocks and/or grass going through the item of course.
  • Scenery shadows is set to None. This ensures shadows cast from buildings and terrain do not cast a shadow on the item on the ground.

Thanks for your effort for contributing and reading this, --BrenRS (talk) 23:14, September 19, 2013 (UTC)

Changing pet colors[edit source]

Using the same method from the video in chat. The top picture is before losing the raven and the bottom is the result.--Jlun2 (talk) 23:09, November 13, 2013 (UTC)

This doesn't work on baby versions of pets. Doing this would result in an adult version upon reclaiming:

Oh, and one last thing is that this cannot be used on kittens or cats. You won't be able to reclaim them from the pet stores whatsoever; the pet owner won't even acknowledge your missing cat.

Treasure Trail Scans[edit source]

Hi, for the Treasure Trails/Guide/Scans please don't use 400#800px for the image size. The image becomes humongous when the page is loaded. I changed the image size back to display 300px as it makes the table and image a more reasonable size. Shoyrukon (talk) 07:23, December 20, 2013 (UTC)

Template:Scanposapprox[edit source]

Rather than make a whole new template for just 1 image, I've just gone ahead and made "approx" an optional parameter for Template:Scanpos. MolMan 13:06, January 2, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Treasure Trail images[edit source]

At the moment, it's not possible to exceed the content area with anything (wide tables, images, etc.). I do know how to fix it so thngs can overflow again, but there was a particular reason I didn't when I first realised what caused it. I'll see if I can remember what it was. However, covering up the sidebar is a general no-no due to it being used for advertising which we can't cover up.

In the meantime, there's not much I can help with. I would suggest making it smaller and have it link to another page (somewhere in the map namespace). I have a wider-than-average screen size and I'm still seeing it cut off a bit. For people with smaller screens it's going to be even worse than what I see. The page is also very slow to load, largely due to the amount of images. I'd suggest splitting it up if possible. cqm 18:44, 3 Jan 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

Moving images[edit source]

Hi Isobel (: Remember to fix file links when you move images. You can check Special:Whatlinkshere to see what pages link to a file before you move it. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 19:05, January 5, 2014 (UTC)

Reminder[edit source]

When tagging images for deletion, please remember to remove them from all pages they are on, including any personal userpages that use them. Image/link maintenance is one of the exceptions to user page editing. Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 11:40, February 2, 2014 (UTC)

You can either remove the link entirely or put <nowiki></nowiki> around it, which makes the coding between the tags into just plain text, so Insert caption here would turn into [[:File:Chaotic claw.png|Insert caption here]] Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 11:53, February 2, 2014 (UTC)

You have got the highscore data being recorded okay in User:IsobelJ/Hiscore Data Smile

What you need to do next is decide how you want to present the information. Unlike the adventure log, which is just a sub-page you include, the high scores have various ways of presenting the information.

I think the simplest is to use the Template:Parse user stats with the following markup will generate the user stats box that you see to the right.

{{Parse user stats
 |Data  = {{User:IsobelJ/Hiscore Data}}
 |Name = Isobel

If you need to extract specific skill levels or XP from your hiscore data for your own layout, or for use with other templates, then this can be done with the ParseHiscoreData template.

Hope that helps. Smile Amaurice talk 18:28, May 19, 2014 (UTC)
