Wiki.png

Hello, Coaster4321, and welcome to the RuneScape Wiki!

Thank you for your past contributions and taking an interest in our wiki. If you have any trouble or need help, feel free to ask questions on my talk page or any other editor's talk page. Also, you could look at a help page or you could shout out on the local forums. We hope you like it here and decide to stay!

Here are a few pages to help out new editors such as yourself:

Please sign your name on talk pages by using four tildes (~~~~) or use the "sign" button (Signature button.png) above the edit box. This will automatically produce your name and the date. Signing your comments is important, as it lets other editors know who has posted which comments.

Again, welcome! -- Karlis (Talk) 19:13, 30 March 2009

Re:Custom Games‎[edit source]

In all honesty, I rather doubt it would be up to par as an article (mostly due to the subject). If you wish, go to the Yew Grove and make a post to see if the article would survive on it's own. Happy editing!--

Categories[edit source]

Hi Coaster, I tweaked the category on you calculator from money to currency, since money is a nonexistent category. If you have and question, just drop me a line. Air rune.png Tollerach hates SoF Fire rune.png 19:57, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

PS, I also noticed that you link to nonexistent categories fun and games in your User:Coaster4321/Custom games page. I'm not sure if we need those categories or not. If you find more fun and games pages feel free to create the category. If your page is the only one like that maybe deleting the link is a good idea. Re:Question[edit source]

By undo vandal, you mean reverting vandalism you find on pages? If so, yes, please do it! Any vandals you find, you may also report them to the Counter Vandalism Unit. Many of us spend the majority of our time undoing/reverting vandalism, the more people to help, the better! Karlis (talk) (contribs) 15:30, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks.. that is what i meant.. so i report them to the counter vandalism unit eh. thanks coaster4321 15:34, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Yes. As far as edit summaries go, when you're editing a page, there is a drop-down menu calles "Summaries." In there, you will find "Reverted vandalism," that will be the one to use. Karlis (talk) (contribs) 15:51, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Your sig.[edit source]

I noticed for your sig you are using raw HTML. This violates a new policy, but not everyone is aware of it yet. We now require signatures to be placed into template form. You may read more here. Karlis (talk) (contribs) 15:11, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

You are welcome to use HTML, but it is to be placed in a template. Yours would be Template:Signatures/Coaster4321 . Please give me some time to find the discussion as my work computer is rather slow. Karlis (talk) (contribs) 15:19, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Here are the instructions users must follow if they wish to use a custom signature. Also, the community agreed on this change here. Karlis (talk) (contribs) 15:24, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm not mad at you at all, calm down. =) I'm just trying to help you get your signature set up correctly. =) Let me look into it. Karlis (talk) (contribs) 15:27, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Have you changed your preferences to reflect the template? If not, you may do the following:
Click here to enter your preferences. A few lines down, you will see an area called "Signature" with a box next to it. Copy and paste the following into the box:
{{SUBST:Nosubst|Signatures/Coaster4321}}
Then check the box underneath it that says Custom signature, then click save on the bottom. You're all finished, and it should work properly from now. =) Karlis (talk) (contribs) 15:32, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Re: Fear of mods[edit source]

Haha, I can assure you I'm not going to ban you, especially over something like this. We're all equal here, I'm just trying to help you out. I'm actually a pushover, so I don't think you'll have to worry about me at all. Also, I am going to lunch, so I will not be here for about half an hour. Try out what I posted above, and it should work out for you. BBL. Karlis (talk) (contribs) 15:34, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

IP's[edit source]

Trust me, I'm not new to proxies. We know all about them, and people abuse it. It's not news to any of us, but it is rather rare when people proxy, especiall for vanity edits like that. Karlis (talk) (contribs) 17:48, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Can you please remove that little notice you have on your user page about the part being banned with the link to [[User:Total Rune|Total Rune]]. If you wish to have that blocked notice there you may (although I don't like it) please don't link the page to another user. Thanks.

Regarding a Star Find "Manual"[edit source]

Hey there Coster4321.

Thanks for your interest in creating a "manual"-type article for Star Find on the RuneScape wiki as a subpage under your user page. However, I think such a sub page would be better fit under my user page. You can still assist in the creation of such a "manual," however it'll only be listed under my, Star Find's, user page.

Thanks. Star Find 21:46, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good - looks great so far. ;) Star Find 19:57, March 16, 2010 (UTC)

Re: My Gold[edit source]

Although I can do the wikia stuff, I'm not so good at explaining, so if my explanation is missing something please ask more. Smile

My gold pages make use of "variables" to make life easier. For information on variables, see mw:Extension:VariablesExtension. You may also want to look at mw:Help:Extension:ParserFunctions, which I use to do the calculations.

As you might have noticed with my general header, I use personal templates. Personal templates are like normal templates, except that they are under my own user pages. I also have a page for each year, so the pages involved are:

  1. User:Amaurice/My Gold/2010 (tracking page for 2010)
  2. User:Amaurice/My Gold/2009 (tracking page for 2009)
  3. User:Amaurice/My Gold/Header (template header for gold pages, which itself transcludes my general User:Amaurice/Header)
  4. User:Amaurice/My Gold/Row (template used for each row, except the first row)

The header template uses Template:Tabs to give the tabs for the different years (currently only two), and works out which tab is "current" by subtracting the page year from 2011 (so 2010 = tab 1, 2009 = tab 2). The header template also sets up variables using {{#vardefine:....}} to set up the style for each gold row type. I use variables for this so I can change easily if I wish. To use the variables, I just use {{#var:....}}.

In each page (the 2009 and 2010 pages), I include the header, then I put in the first "Start tracking" table row in the page. I also set the starting gold in this page in the variable called "gold". When I then add the following rows, I just use my "row" template and pass to it the following four parameters:

  1. The date string (for direct display)
  2. The new amount of gold - the gain/loss is calculated in the row template and the "gold" variable updated
  3. The row type (e.g. "kingdom") - this is the name of the variable that contains the "style" to use (e.g colour for the row)
  4. The description of what I did (for direct display)

With my gold, I choose to work in millions (m), but you could adapt it easily to use the numbers to mean thousands instead (k), as has been done in Mascab37's version here. Smile Amaurice talk 16:27, August 9, 2010 (UTC)

Page moved[edit source]

Hello, I moved your page located at UserCoaster4321/My Gold to User:Coaster4321/My Gold, you missed a colon which made it a subpage in the main namespace Lol --Quarenon  Talk 17:24, August 9, 2010 (UTC)

AmauriceBot source code change notification[edit source]

The AmauriceBot source code has had the following changes made:

  1. WikiSession - modified to not use "limit=max" to avoid Media API bug when max items reached.
  2. GEChecker - updated to not warn about expected comments in Exchange pages and to consider more exchange item names to be "similar" to Exchange titles.
  3. SourceMgr - updated to take a "checkOnly" option to check which source has changed.
  4. Main - modified to pass "false" in "checkOnly" parameter to saveSource.

RE: Thanks also question[edit source]

Yep, you certainly can test those scripts. You just need to add importScript('User:Quarenon/name_of_file.js'); to your javascript file. For example, for the GEMH popups script you should add this:

importScript('User:Quarenon/gemhpopup.js');

Also, to get the hiscores stuff, you should add {{Hiscore autoupdate}} to one of your userpages, like this:

{{Hiscore autoupdate
| player	= Coaster4321
| page = User:Coaster4321/Hiscores
| interval	= 1
| history = 5
}}

Within a few hours you will get a new page called User:Coaster4321/Hiscores and then you can borrow anything you need from User:Quarenon/Stats. There's also some more examples at RS:CYP#Using_the_data. --Quarenon  Talk 15:20, 11 August 2010

Sorry, I was on vacation and just got back. Thanks for telling me it was down, i wouldn't have noticed Lol. There was an update to TS3 server... but that shouldn't cause the server to fail... RE: Parse Data[edit source]

The page contains multiple rows separated by newline characters, each line corresponding to a skill or activity. For skills, a line contains the values for rank, level, and experience in that order. For activities, the line contains the rank and score. The skills and actitivies are arranged in the same order as they appear on the hiscores list, so overall is first, then attack, etc. The first activity, Duel Tournament, is listed after the last skill, Dungeoneering. The official description of the lite pages is located here.

For code there is an example that was just posted on my talk page here (see first code block). There's also the RSHiscores extension which pulls data from the hiscore lite page. --Quarenon  Talk 20:56, August 17, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Miscellania money making?[edit source]

I currently have 10 workers on herbs and 5 on mining. I do sometimes change them if the market changes. Check the Calculators/Miscellania to see which is currently the most profitable.

I keep at least 1.3m (usually 2m) in the coffers, so the workers work at their maximum for the whole week. This is because with 15 workers, they use 75k per day, but only if it stays above 750k, otherwise it's only 10% of what is in the coffers. What the produce is proportional to what they get paid from the coffers.

I usually make about 1.5m a week, but this week it was higher because lots of people were buying up herbs ready for the double XP weekend.

Getting Started:

For now (until you finish Royal Trouble), go and do the following:

  1. Make sure your rating is 100% (I usually mine to get up to 100%) - this make take a few minutes first time if dropped low (drops 1% per day)
  2. Put 900k in the coffers (to keep worker at maximum for whole week) - with 10 workers, they will use 50k a day providing it stays above 500k by the end of the week.
  3. Set all 10 workers getting herbs.

Every 7 Days:

Pick a particular day of the week, go and do the following:

  1. Get your rating back up to 100% (will drop 7% over the week)
  2. Collect the produce (will be sent to bank)
  3. Add another 350k to the coffers
  4. Go to Varrock to sell produce. Should sell for well over 1m (nice profit)

Royal Trouble:

Once you have completed Royal Trouble, you will want to keep 1.3m in the coffers (as you will then have 15 workers), and set the extra workers on mining (or whatever is the most profitable on the Calculators/Miscellania page).

Once you get it going, you should start having a nice steady income. Smile Amaurice talk 01:20, August 27, 2010 (UTC)

Minor updates to AmauriceBot[edit source]

FYI, in order to handle cases where the Wikia is under heavy load, the AmauriceBot has been changed to adapt more. The main changes are:

  • User:AmauriceBot/Source code/Utils
    1. Changed connection.setReadTimeout from 30 seconds to 120 seconds (to allow longer for slow Wikia).
    2. Increased delay between retries (in getInternetPage) to start at 6 seconds rather than 1 second.
    3. Added extra call to connection.setRequestProperty to set the "User-Agent" (in case Wikia requires in future).
    4. Added call to connection.getResponseCode and throw exception if not 200 (i.e. http failure status).
  • User:AmauriceBot/Source code/WikiSession
    1. Changed doCmd to parse and log any WikiAPI errors to stderr.
    2. Changed doCmd to retry if get maxlag error.
    3. Added "&maxlag=5" to editText (as per http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Maxlag_parameter).
    4. Changed editText to delay if doing an edit within 6 seconds of last edit (to keep below 10 edits a minute).
