RE: RSHiscores Update[edit source]

That looks good, the only other problem I've seen is that the errors are being put into the $wgRSHiscoreCache variable but isn't being used properly if the cache is used for the same player later on in the page. For example, if I put in a non-existent player name and use it twice on a page, the first error returns "B" (non-existent player), but the second time it returns "F" (non-existent skill), because it thinks the cache should always look like the raw hiscores string even though it contains an error code. The extension should give a consistent error code ("B" in this case) both times. --Quarenon 03:43, February 7, 2011 (UTC)

Okay, looks good to me! Smile --Quarenon 06:56, February 7, 2011 (UTC)

Possible Copy/Paste Bot[edit source]

If you happen to see a copy of this message on Soldier's talk page, it's because I'm leaving it on both.

I've been working on making basic calculators for every skill in two parts, the second of which requires no knowledge as to how to write one. This way, I can write all the calcs, then a person/people who cannot write calcs can copy and paste all the xp/skill values into these templates (thus giving me more time to do the knowledge-requiring aspect). While several users were copying/pasting numbers out of the game guide, one of them suggested that I ask Kitty and/or Soldier to write a bot that would do the copy/pasting instead. If such a bot were created, we could have all the skill calcs done in a day. No obligation, of course. Thanks! Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 21:37, February 18, 2011 (UTC)

RE: GEMW Update[edit source]

Good call, I've made some changes so these messages are displayed if the edit can't be made because of page protection. Also, thanks for the update on the extension. --Quarenon 06:33, March 4, 2011 (UTC)

RE: External Content[edit source]

Wow, thanks for the info! YQL seems to be perfect for getting around some of the recent issues. I can update the calculator script so that the calculator can make the hiscore fetches from the browser to get around the RSHiscore problem. I think creating a new field type will work for this.

I haven't been able to get a good look at the Semantic extensions, however I do think they could be highly useful to the wiki. Getting a test wiki set up seems to be a good idea because from what I know many articles will be affected/need changes if SMW is used. I'll read up more about these extensions when I can. --Quarenon 03:36, March 5, 2011 (UTC)

GE prices[edit source]

Could you make something like the hiscores thing, but for GE prices? that would prevent a lot of vandalism, and effort. If so, thanks A LOT. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 22:16, March 6, 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but are you still alive? Wink
Could you please comment on my question at Forum:Semi-protect Exchange namespace? thanks, JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 15:47, March 12, 2011 (UTC)
Hiscores has hiscores lite, which has much less load than the GE. Until Jagex makes a GE lite, I think the general consensus is that it's too resource-expensive (though of course you're free to ask about the possibility and prove me wrong :) I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 22:01, March 22, 2011 (UTC)

Poke[edit source]

Poke poke. I figure the first step is testing connecting to Google or something just to confirm that it's not on Jagex' end. After that, go poke Wikia about it since you're the only one they'll listen to on matters of this extension. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 21:43, March 24, 2011 (UTC)

RSHiscores[edit source]

Hi Catcrewser,

I was wondering what the status was for the update of RSHiscores, or if it works. I ask because I want to do a revamping of our calculators this month and I'm wondering if using that extension is an option at this point. ʞooɔ 21:40, April 1, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Kitty, sorry for the confusion. I'm actually Cook Me Plox and I switched signatures with suppa. Thank you for the quick reply Lol ʞooɔ 22:58, April 1, 2011 (UTC)

Wiki PHP Implamentations[edit source]

Hello. I'm currently learning a bit of PHP and wanted to know if there was some way that I could use it on the wiki without getting to complicated or anything. I'm only at the basic level as of now, and don't want to do anything as drastic as a bot or something. I've talked to several other people, and they told me that you're the person to ask, since you did the PHP for the user stats. If there's anything relatively simple yet useful I can do with PHP, or JavaScript, C++, or C for that matter, could you get back to me? Thanks.

Re: RSHiscores updates[edit source]

Hi, I wasn't sure where to reply to your message with your rename thing, so I replied on my talkpage instead :) cqm 00:12, 1 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

You have a talk page again :D
I added a pull request for expanding the docs on the repository. It might be better to move them to a github wiki page at some point, but the idea was to keep the code and docs in the same location.
I've also added some quick cleanup (that I haven't pushed yet) to the main file and added a i18n and i18n.magic file. I thought it might be worth splitting off wfHiscores_Render into a separate file as it is kind of large. I'll push them after I've tested them, hopefully in the next couple of days. cqm 14:58, 14 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
I have a vagrant instance I use for testing as part of the voldev programme that should be of use. I've no idea if it works at the moment as it has a habit of breaking and taking ages to get fixed, but it's pretty good for testing purposes. Unfortunately, the repos you need to clone in order to set it up are private although I could ask if it's possible to get you access if you're interested? cqm 23:32, 14 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
A couple of things I missed on the docs update:
  • The installation directory should point to extensions/RSHiscores/RSHighscores.php (which is what wikia expect in their config files). Ideally. we should have some consistency for the folder and the file too.
  • "If more than $wgRSLimit calls are made, then 3E is returned for the calls over the limit." Looking over the docs, E should be returned rather than 3
I've also got my vagrant instance working at the moment (it's throwing errors between saving edits and reloading the page but it works :P) and the version or the extension wikia are using is working which is a nice starting point before we start changing things :) cqm 23:57, 14 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
Having said all that, mediawiki have a vagrant devbox available too. The extension should work on standard mw too, and the mw vagrant is accessible to everyone. cqm 00:06, 15 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
You're not the only one who struggles with setting up their own wikia instance, someone tried a year ago or so and miserably failed. Wikia has obscene amounts of core modifications and local tweaks to make their lives easier so it's unsurprising really. I think the mediawiki vagrant is the closest thing you're going to get as you're not relying on anything wikia adds in. The server configuration might be a sticking point, but it shouldn't be too bad with all the debugging the extension has (or had).
I'll make a pull request in the next couple of days to add support for OS hiscores unless you get there first, although a more substantial change will be needed for the other hiscore api's as they return json instead of csv. cqm 00:12, 18 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
Those changes look good :) One thing though, could we add a category to errors so we can track where it's broken? I don't know how widespread its usage is and I'd rather not sign off on a breaking change without being able to fix them at some point. cqm 00:45, 10 Nov 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

┌────────────────┘
Is there anything else you wanted to work on with RSHiscores? If not I can try and get Wikia's version updated. It's going to take a while, but it's pretty simple to follow so it shouldn't be too much work to review. cqm 14:46, 28 Nov 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

Hi, I spoke to Grunny earlier about the pull request to get RSHighscores updated. Whilst he said he'd try to look at it tomorrow, he did point out that we don't escape the result of the jagex API (or not that I could see anyway) simply because it's from an API we don't have any control over. With that in mind, I added a simple htmlspecialchars. Would you be able to add it to your version on GitHub?
He also suggested another possibility of utilising $parser->recursiveTagParse(), e.g.
$data = $parser->recursiveTagParse( $data );
It essentially passes it to the wikitext parser and returns the result. I figured I'd let you know both ideas so you could make the ultimate choice long term :) cqm 00:55, 16 Jan 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
Hi :)
I was wondering if you'd heard anything from Jagex since your email some months ago about CORS headers?
Also, what were your plans for the js calcs (I think you mentioned it a while back :P) cqm 13:02, 28 Mar 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
The update has kind of stalled as Grunny (who was meant to review it) has gone away for a few weeks. I'm not sure when he's back unfortunately, I think it might be sometime after easter.
In other news, Ryan PM did get an interesting email from Jagex the other day, in light of the Jagex Wiki shutting down and fansites apparently being offered more support, with the offer of a skype meeting after easter. I think it's an ideal opportunity to bring it up along with any other potential ideas :) cqm 21:47, 28 Mar 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
Unfortunately, still no progress on getting the updates merged, but I did have a few thoughts for future versions. Given that it's mainly designed for js calcs, I was wondering if it would be better to add an API module specifically for querying the hiscores. In later updates, perhaps we could expand the scope of the extension to include other APIs such as the bestiary or exchange, but for now splitting the logic into something reusable seemed like a good idea going forward. cqm 23:57, 21 May 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
Finally some good news: RSHiscores has been updated! It should be available on the next code release if it isn't already (I lose track since they've started doing 2 updates a week). cqm 20:05, 11 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
I've managed to get the message cache rebuilt (and thus the extension now works), but in doing so it caused every use of #hs to be re-cached and resulted in jagex's servers blacklisting wikia's IP. I've disabled {{Hiscore}} for now, but could you remove any other use of #hs you know about until we've been removed from the blacklist? I've added some more details at Forum:RSHiscores issues as well :)
Grunny suggested making use of memcached to prevent this happening again, I'll try and get something coded asap and hopefully get it merged soon. cqm 11:05, 12 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

┌───────────────────┘
Turns out the cache no longer works either (they're all requests for my total level)

I opened a PR for the cache fixes you made, I'm hoping it can get fixed soon as it's so minor.
On the topic of RSData, would it be ok if it was made under a group repository? I end up in such a mess when I'm working with more than one or two sources in git, so hopefully it'll make it easier to test and maintain in the long run. I've made http://github.com/rswiki, so if you're happy with it let me know and I'll add you to the group :) cqm 16:22, 14 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
Due to the caching bug, it's not actually outputting anything but E for now, even wth the template being fixed. Hopefully the job queue is less aggressive at rebuilding page caches than rebuilding the message cache is. cqm 07:03, 15 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

Re: Calculator Progress[edit source]

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, it's been a busy few weeks unfortunately. I don't think too much has changed, although I believe Gaz is still doing some work on the pages themselves as part of one of his projects (I suspect he's a bit short of time lately too though).

One piece of relatively good news is that we managed to talk to Mod Balance about some features we'd like and he suggested we sent in a list of what we'd like. the full email i sent is here. The response was promising (we actually got one!) although it's being added to their extensive backlog. e did mention that it might be something they'd try and do in the free afternoon they get each week and there's definitely a couple of low-hanging fruit there including the CORS headers.

Also, I noticed Jagex completely stole the name of your guest book. cqm 08:51, 20 Jan 2017 (UTC) (UTC)
