Dinosaur tooth drop chance change[edit source]

Sorry for the late reply, but I didn't know how to respond back. The reason for the change was that the drop chance was modified. The link to the proof is here, quoted by Mod Poerkie. If you have any more questions, please feel free to let me know and sorry for the confusion. Jhnswingle (talk) 17:35, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

Archaeology Campus[edit source]

Why did you redirect Archaeology Campus to Varrock Dig Site recently? They are separate places with distinct features, and should not be covered by the same article. Thingummywut (talk) 17:07, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

Construction Contract locations[edit source]

Hi. You recently added maps to the Construction Contract location tables, but at the same time removed the NPCs and directions from it that are still claimed to be documented by the text above the tables. The NPCs provide information about the contract, so I feel like it's important to link them also. (Yes, in some cases the building isn't named, and we have a link to NPC there.) I feel like the whole section should be about NPCs instead of locations since the contracts are for NPCs. How about directions; did you think about those and have a good argument why they shouldn't be documented? Right now the section is very inconsistent. Thingummywut (talk) 12:58, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

I agree with MaximusGugu; looks a bit confusing. Also the two-column layout is confusing to me. I'd prefer if the whole section was retitled to something like "Contract targets", and revert back to simple listing of NPCs and directions, and just adding a new column for a map. I don't think it's a good idea to have separate tables for locations either; they should be columns in a single table instead if we indeed want to even include the city. I'll add a mockup on your sandbox of what I have in mind. Thingummywut (talk) 16:13, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

DPL to find relevant articles[edit source]

A common denominator for a large majority of these items' articles seems to be that the image param in the infobox embeds two or more files in sequence. To that end, I'm leaving this sample DPL code here in case it helps:

<dpl>
namespace =
uses = Template:Infobox Item
include = {Infobox Item}:image
includematch = /\|\s*image\s*=[^|}]+File:[^|}]+File:/m
table = class="wikitable sortable",Item,Images
offset = 0
reset = all
</dpl>

Can combine multiple on a single page (incrementing offset by 500 each time). Not sure what sort of items are not of interest, e.g. could need some notcategorys added to ignore things like Removed content, etc. Without any category filtering, you'd need 43+ DPL invocations to search through all of the 21.5k+ item articles.

HawkBot question[edit source]

Hi, is there some reason you've programmed it such that it adds "missing update dates"? I've always removed dates when it's not an update-less hotfix, because in cases where the update entry has a non-empty associated update parameter, the date is automatically added. Unless there's some special background list I'm not aware of that requires the date parameter to be explicitly added, to my understanding it would be redundant to add the date parameter to update entries that already display the date without it, and it would even be beneficial to remove superfluous date parameters where applicable. RuneMetrics Paul Z Talk bite me HS Contributions 02:43, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

I'm of the opinion that the parameter shouldn't be included at all, since the template adds the date automatically if an update is associated with the entry. This motivation is primarily from a code cleanliness point of view. I'm a fan of minimizing clutter (in this case, bytes on a page). Comparison: instead of linking a wikipedia page by inserting the full URL with a single square bracket link [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Page_Name like this], it's cleaner to use the WP template {{WP|Page Name|like this}}. Sure, both get the job done, but the WP template obviously looks cleaner and can be written using fewer bytes.
That being said, hear me out: while I do get that it is easier to retroactively add entries amongst the existing updates with the date parameters included (even if superfluous), I think there's a case to be made for efficiency once a certain point is reached. Namely, once the "update history project" stops being a "project", i.e., once we've added pretty much all updates to all pages (or close enough), then the date parameters should not be included (except for entries without an actual "update", such as certain hotfixes). Until that point, fine, keep the date parameters, but at the very least, remove the date parameter from the first update entry ("Added to game"). By definition, nothing comes before it, so there's no need for a superfluous date parameter to be added for that one. As for the other updates, like I said, once we reach a critical mass in terms of update entries added to all pages, then we can stop worrying about retroactively adding update entries to pages (weeks/months/years after the fact), and instead just focus on adding future patch note/ninja/hotfix/game updates as they come out, meaning that the new updates will always be at the top of the reverse chronological list of entries, so no one will have to worry about not seeing the dates when they edit the page. Also, side note, I didn't appreciate the blanket undoing of some of my edits; on one of those, you reverted some errors I'd removed. And to counter your comments that there is "no need for the dates to be removed", I say: there is no need for the dates to be added in the first place. Anyway, maybe this can be further discussed (as a community) somewhere like Yew Grove or something. RuneMetrics Paul Z Talk bite me HS Contributions 02:03, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

Caps[edit source]

[1]. Why's this? It yields incorrectly capitalised line "Tetracompass pieces are always dropped in order: Tetracompass piece (left), Tetracompass piece (right), Tetracompass piece (dial), Tetracompass piece (needle)." Does capitalising it correctly break something else? Thingummywut (talk) 20:52, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

No, I believe that would be a different reference. For instance makeshift pie oven has 2 references related to the pieces, and they both need lower case tetracompass pieces. You kinda made it consistently incorrect with that. Thingummywut (talk) 21:05, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Awesome, looking good. Thanks! Thingummywut (talk) 21:16, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Although I'm not convinced this is correct either: [2]. This was also my first idea, but what if I had a list like Bandos page 1, Bandos page 2? Wouldn't it now incorrectly uncapitalise those? Not sure if we have those kinds of lists anywhere, but it's still hacky. Thingummywut (talk) 21:25, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
