Value and limit[edit source]

Hi Az, I got the limits by buying up enough of each item and/or doing a trick with my friend where we'd go back and forth and sell it to eachother. I can get a few data points and extrapolate for most of the stuff, but PoP stuff will have to wait. ʞooɔ 18:51, January 10, 2013 (UTC)

Azbot's template edits[edit source]

Azbot has been removing normal links and the |link= params from our navigational templates. Was this intentional or an accident? I mean, what's the deal with this one? Grand exchange item templates[edit source]

I was taking a look at ExcgDefault and ExcgDefaultNat and noticed that the only difference was that the latter uses {{,|{Price}}} instead of . I thought I remembered that the reason for the nature rune-specific template existing was that the default one couldn't be used since it broke something. Is that still the case? Suppa chuppa Talk 20:41, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Alright, I couldn't figure out what exactly was broken when I changed the template using and previewed. And I'm guessing then that the only reason you object to making them both the same is that fetching the value of the price parameter is much faster than having to get the value from view=price. Suppa chuppa Talk 21:50, May 16, 2013 (UTC)

Re:Countdown[edit source]

New seeds and drop tables[edit source]

I added a drop table to Elf for their loot from Thieving. Unfortunately the new seeds were causing errors, so I had to put them as |gemw=no. Collapsible navboxes[edit source]

Judging by the history of Template:Navbox, you seem to know how it works (things like that make my head hurt). I want to move the collapsible classes to the less heavy mw-collapsible or mw-collapsed, any chance you could take a look? I'm in the process of updating the scripts for collapsing multiple/taller navboxes, and will fix it all up when I get back later (~12am utc).

Thanks, cqm 15:29, 20 Jun 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

I added a #switch to maintain the same parameters for the navbox. Navbox2 seemed to be working well in all my tests, so I've moved it to the live version. I've also updated the script, but left the old version still running as well until I'm happy the cache has updated correctly. cqm 12:52, 21 Jun 2013 (UTC) (UTC)
MediaWiki:Collapsible-collapse and MediaWiki:Collapsible-expand control the text for those, but it hasn't updated from when I changed them to show/hide ~6 hours ago. There is a workaround for it, but I'm waiting on a reply to the bug report to see if it's going to be a long term issue. The CSS fixes have been added, they'll probably start affecting everything in 10-15 mins. cqm 14:19, 21 Jun 2013 (UTC) (UTC)
It's because the system messages I lined above don't actually work. There's a workaround if you look somewhere near the top of Template:Navbox (I think I labelled it with a comment too). I'm also considering finding a way to make the tables use show/hide with a script as using the data-(thing) is a pain, and not very well known at that. cqm 08:00, 3 Jul 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

Changing Exchange pages[edit source]

Hi Az, I wanted to talk to you about simplifying the way GEPrice and various other pricing templates work. I didn't realize this before, but we have an extremely complicated and inefficient structure for just displaying a simple number, the price. I was thinking it would be easier to just have a template or Exchange subpage for JUST the price, not the complicated ExchangeItem template which has all those different parameters and the {View} and bad switch logic. If you see this soon could you come on Special:Chat to discuss this with me? Thanks. ʞooɔ 02:13, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

re:remove delay and transition effects in collapsibles[edit source]

I took a look and came up with two options, both involving rewriting functions. one is to rewrite a large chunk of $.fn.makeCollapsible, the other is to rewrite $.fn.fadeIn and $.fn.fadeOut. The former is more viable, but it's a decent sized function to rewrite to just remove the fade parts of it. It's also modifying core, which isn't likely to be a good idea. The latter is rewriting parts of jQuery, not something I want to do for hopefully obvious reasons

With the above in mind I'm almost inclined to revert to the old code, which seems to still be maintained, or at least used, on Wikipedia. cqm 16:23, 8 Jul 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

I finally sat down and came up with MediaWiki:Common.js/instantCollapsible.js. I haven't tested it very much - would you mind taking a look and seeing how it performs? cqm 01:40, 23 Jul 2013 (UTC) (UTC)
I've addressed all the issues I could see with the page you linked. Well, all except one caused by a combination of mw-collapsed and sortable which I'm so far unable to convince Wikia is an actual bug. mw-collapsed causes all the rows below the first row to be hidden, then sortable changes the first and second rows to be within a thead tag rather than a tbody. mw-collapsible sees the thead and ignores it because why would you collapse the header? And it's all caused by sortable being applied after mw-collapsible rather than before. Which is why this was never an issue before :| Another thing for my todo list I guess... cqm 20:39, 24 Jul 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

itemId in Template:ExchangeItem[edit source]

Hi, the itemid parameter on the mentioned template was being used by Template:ExchDBLookup, which is in turn used by both Template:Infobar Summon Pouch and Template:Infobar Summon Scroll. With the itemid param removed, it was causing the entire exchange page to transclude and the page was constantly crashing as soon as the graph script loaded. I've restored the parameter to the template, but I wasn't sure if you were planning on removing it from the exchange pages? cqm 07:57, 12 Jul 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

RE: GEMW Volume[edit source]

I am aware that TyBot isn't currently updating the volumes, as after the RS GE site started updating again, the way we were getting the volumes stopped working because BeautifulSoup decided it wanted to drop the body tag. We had then decided that we'd temp disable that to be able to get the exchange pages updated. AzBot request[edit source]

I realise you asked for a js implementation to add talkheader to talk pages, but the current version is sucky and is going to be for a while:

 • It adds the preload to the top of the page, but below where the section headline would be if they filled out the summary box.
 • It does work with fast access keys, e.g. Alt-Shift-+ (add new section).
 • It can be removed before saving the page.
 • It won't work if they have js disabled (nor will the oasis editor, so this is a monobook thing).
 • There are some issues with making multiple scripts run on liking the save changes button. In theory it's possible, but there's something wrong with my implementation of it.

Overall, it's not the best, so I'd much prefer to have a bot run the task. Would you be willing to add it to AzBot's tasks? I thought something like get a list of all talk pages and compare it to whatlinkshere of the template. Any thoughts? cqm 19:24, 4 Oct 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

Re: edit/preview[edit source]

It's certainly not by design, but they seem to be working fine for me. Right now (using monobook) I'm seeing the extra edit buttons (redirect, table, line break and gallery) and template preloads as well as the changes to the sitenotice. The sig reminder appears to be playing up, but otherwise they seem to be working fine. cqm 14:25, 12 Oct 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

Or perhaps you mean scripts that apply to the content area not loading during previewing edits? cqm 20:52, 12 Oct 2013 (UTC) (UTC)
That's easy enough to fix for monobook, you can just hook the scripts onto wgAction === 'submit' (preview). But for oasis it's harder because there's no separate page that's loaded. wgAction is still 'edit' so the only way is to load them onclick of preview, but it'd have to be reloaded with every preview which could cause some odd bugs. I think someone requested it on my talk page a while ago but I didn't get around to figuring out how to do it.
Maybe something like $( '#previewbutton' ).on( 'click', loadPreviewScripts ); However, as it stands core mw scripts won't load on oasis preview such as jquery.collapsible or jquery.sortable because they load on pageload rather than on preview. There at least two scripts that rely on those modules that I can think of off the top of my head, maybe more. cqm 08:41, 13 Oct 2013 (UTC) (UTC)
Fixed for monobook, I've left out loading oasis scripts on preview until I have time to test it fully. The sigReminder is fixed too :) cqm 09:43, 20 Oct 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

Images are loaded after everything on the page and only if they can be seen within the confines of the window (if it's below what you can see it won't load yet). Price data[edit source]

Hi Az,

I've been talking with the guys over at RSBandB, and we reached an agreement to use their old Grand Exchange price data, which has pretty complete coverage back to May 20 2008. I now have a bunch of CSV files with day-by-day prices for each item from May 2008 to the end of 2010.

I'd like us to replace our old price data with theirs (after checking for accuracy), and then extend the GE graphs back from 2009 to the earliest date. Do you have any concerns about that? ʞooɔ 21:42, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

3500 files, about 15k each in size. Here. Please do check for any inaccuracies, and it should n't be a problem to have AzBot add the data. Will it be easy to adjust the graphs to support the earlier data? ʞooɔ 23:15, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
Could you get that data integrated fairly quickly? It's slightly time-sensitive. ʞooɔ 05:53, January 5, 2014 (UTC)
No data for those three days, or for for those items until much later. I think RSBandB got screwed up because they didn't realize those items had become tradeable until much years afterwards. It's partially time-sensitive just because as part of the deal I promised I'd link to their site on wiki news for a little while (kind of a "thanks for the data" thing) once we had the prices up. ʞooɔ 14:55, January 5, 2014 (UTC)

Category:Parser function errors[edit source]

Hi. For some reason, the MW messages that add that category are transcluding it onto non-mainspace pages even though the messages are using Mainonly to add the category. This is fixed with a null edit to the page. I'm stumped as to why it works that way, honestly... I'm asking Cqm to look into this problem, but I don't have high hopes for an easy fix (unless, of course, he can use his Wikia connections). In the mean time, I'm wondering if you wouldn't be against updating your bot to include a small daily task of null edits to that category. The only pages that should appear in that category are mainspace pages and RuneScape:Placeholder. You can't see the problem now because I just finished null editing the pages myself, but I can almost more guarantee pages will appear each day. Also, fun fact: One of your talk page archives was the first page to appear in that category. MolMan 14:55, January 6, 2014 (UTC)

Oh, I guess I didn't totally understand what he said. That makes more sense now though. I wouldn't be against you changing the MW pages to include the calculator space (I assume you know how, right?). Regardless, there's still the problem of pages being slowly added to that category via the job queue. Which leads me back to my original question: Would you mind having your bot perform daily null edits? Just having it run this task daily for a month should be safe (I have no idea how many pages could possibly have any sort of error on it). Maybe get a little fancy and have it log when there are no necessary null edits to be done. After 5 or 7 days of no needed action we could say it's safe to stop and that from there on, only pages we want to be there will be there. So please? Maybe? Yes? With pleasure? Thanks for putting Cam's answer into something I could understand better. MolMan 02:56, January 7, 2014 (UTC)
I had no idea your bot was sentient. Thanks. MolMan 14:51, January 7, 2014 (UTC)
Oh, I see you changed the system messages... I'm thinking we shouldn't include the template namespace. Many of the errors it will catch will be from either example errors in documentation or from the parsers reading a blank parameter. MolMan 14:54, January 7, 2014 (UTC)

BoL graph[edit source]

Why did you revert File:Battle_of_Lumbridge_statistics.png? Angled graphs are never good, and shouldn't the time axis be horizontal instead of vertical? It makes little sense as-is. ʞooɔ 01:55, January 15, 2014 (UTC)

Are the exact hue of red and blue that important? I don't even know where you're getting the colors from, besides what seems to be arbitrary font color choices that were done in July. The confusion from having the days as the dependent variable is much greater than any confusion about whether it matches the ingame HUD at the time. What's even more confusing is that you have the first day's data at the bottom vertically. I think it's fairly clear that the Saradomin percentage is declining in my graph, and it actually makes a bit of sense because it's vertical. You never, ever have time-based bar graphs with horizontal bars. It's just confusing and looks bad. ʞooɔ 02:30, January 15, 2014 (UTC)
Also, the way the whitespace is set up on your graph is incredibly distracting while scrolling ʞooɔ 02:31, January 15, 2014 (UTC)
Lol, don't worry. I'm just passionate about infographics. The whitespace issue would be fixed by keeping the lines straight instead of diagonal, and probably by minimizing the distance between the bars. I'm not trying to bring you down. But that's not your decision, or Mol's decision, or my decision to make. I know that it usually makes sense to be bold, but you made a pretty major change to the main page without any input from anyone except Mol, who I think just asked you to cut down on the number of links. Not everything you do gets reverted, but if someone changes the appearance of the main page in such a drastic way (without community approval), that's going to get reverted regardless of who does it. Deciding on your own which links stay or go, changing the orientation of the alphabetical links, adding images that bug the page's appearance (not just for me), and randomly adding a link to RSW's citadel in the content section...none of these are a good idea to do on your own. I am still assuming good faith (because I have no reason not to) and I have no problem with moving it to a template, but the changes are, at best, something that should have been discussed between more than two people. ʞooɔ 07:27, March 1, 2014 (UTC)

BoL graph[edit source]

Hai Azliq, could you please take a look at File:Battle of Lumbridge statistics.png? I've uploaded two new versions; both have improved layouts and information but one version is more similar to your versions while the other is a line graph. If you could tell me your preference, that'd be great. If you want, I'll redo the second world event in a similar way. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 09:05, April 21, 2014 (UTC)

PS. the translucency on the second one is 25%, thus allowing you to see the grid beneath, which is impossible if the thingies are completely opaque. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 09:06, April 21, 2014 (UTC)
Eh, the second one also starts with 1 rather than 0, therefore continuing with steps of 7 to 8, 15, etc. I tried to force it to start at 0, but this is impossible. So I definitely prefer this to this. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 09:14, April 21, 2014 (UTC)
 1. Ok, though the BnB colours are rather ugly imo...
 2. Because the scores changed every second and the daily values in the table aren't necessarily accurate. The scores might have changed significantly two hours later. A trend line better shows the development as well (and I've always been taught NEVER to connect the dots, no matter how accurate your data are).
 3. Makes more sense for the axis to begin at zero - that way the other marked numbers can be 7, 14, 21 etc. instead of 8, 15, 22, etc. thus making it clearer to distinguish the weeks/phases. Also, you can't just start at something other than 0 without using a breaking line thing or whatever it's called in English. Also, the axis should be "Time (day)" and not just "Day" :P.
 4. You used Calibri. ;________; Can you pleaaaaaaaase change it to Cambria Math, or at least Sylfaen, or some RuneScape font? Only thing worse than Calibri is Comic Sans... :P User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 06:11, April 22, 2014 (UTC)

2 Continuous. I used polynomial (2) because that seemed the best choice. I tried linear too, but the graphs were clearly more curved than that. As for the GEMW, I can argue that they should not be playing connect-the-dots either, but I can't be bothered to go change that (if at all I am able to). :P

re:MediaWiki:Updates.js[edit source]

I'm not sure if that's really the best for Game updates though. There's rarely a case where multiple game updates fall on the same day, and if they do, it's almost always the SOF/Solomon updates, which aren't listed there anymore for those after July 2013. Ever since SOF/Solomon updates aren't listed there anymore, there has just been a single day with 2 game updates: 30 October. Because those situations are so uncommon, I don't think it's that bad to keep this format. I'll manually remove the duplicate links per year now though. how?[edit source]

Special:Diff/10717759 There's no way at all to make the script read the image and determine the subject of the image. So, there's no way at all to actually follow RS:IMG#NAME. It's a lot harder to even require the user who updates the script to enter a name himself, because has hotlinking protection on their images, so we can't display the images on this wiki in the first place. I've gone though a whole list of options to actually follow these rules, and it's simply not something that's doable with the script. And, is it even necessary? I mean, who'll ever want to look up images from updates, other than going to the update that had the image in it? Naming conventions were made to make it easier to find back images, such as NPC or item images. For these images which could have a whole range of "subjects" filled in for them, would make it basically impossible to find them any other way than via the update page. There's no point in making this any more complicated than it is now. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 15:05, May 31, 2014 (UTC)

Lua[edit source]

Also posted to User talk:Amaurice.

Hi :) you may have seen Forum:Scribunto by now, if not it's a way for us to simplify our templates and make them much faster. Some of our worst performing templates are related to ExchangeItem, what I'd like to do is move all the data to the Module ns where it can be accessed by Lua for various operations to be performed upon it. A rough implementation of what I'd like to do can be seen at w:c:camtest:Module:Exchange, a replacement for , and bar which stores the data currently found on exchange pages. I'd also like to move the data subpages in the Exchange ns to something like Module:Exchange/Iron bar/data - it doesn't make sense to load it along with all the other data in my mind, especially considering the sheer volume of data points.

There's various other stages to moving all the data over, but all I really need to know for now is if you'd be willing to alter your exchange updating script(s) on your bot to the new format. It won't be for a couple of weeks, but I thought I'd ask sooner rather than later. Thanks, cqm 14:48, 8 Jun 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

From what I know, the exchange graphs just use the data pulled from Exchange:Bucket/Data which is then slightly formatted and output into a div which is then accessed by the script. That shouldn't be a problem - I'm implementing it in w:c:camtest:Module:Exchange in the data method. To access it you'd simply create a template containing and then use the template as Bucket (or something like that).
As for all the calculations, we'd continue using the existing GEP, GEPrice and the various other templates. There would be some small alterations to the templates themselves, but their usage wouldn't change. They'd all be accessing the same data but avoiding the overhead of going through ExchangeItem every time. I've got a few ideas jotted down at User:Cqm including a roadmap for the transition, but other than that it's still very rough ideas. I think the main task for me at the moment is collating all the existing exchange templates to see what can be consolidated into a single module, what can be removed all together and what needs fixing up. cqm 08:03, 9 Jun 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

GEMW changes[edit source]

This is a really small thing, but it does bug me a little. Is there any reason we have these pages in the mainspace. Because the adjustments aren't really content in a game sense and more of an analytical thing we do on our own, it feels like it'd be more appropriate as a Project namespace set of articles. I'm not adamant about where it is, and I don't care if you opt not to move it; it's just this is something I've left unsaid for a while, and it's good to get monkeys off of backs. As in why can't all the item/price data be stored in the Exchange ns as it is currently for use with modules?
Firstly, storing it in the Module ns means it acts something like a json object which is likely easier to manipulate. I guess we could keep the data in the Exchange ns if we really wanted, but it's probably going to be extra work server side and extra work in converting it over to modules.
Secondly, lua comes with mw.loadData which prevents each item's data loading more than once. Hopefully, this will be a marked improvement in pageload for pages that load the same data over and over, say for calculating profits for smithing iron items or herblore calcs which load the data for vials of water or unf's more than once. I've heard in rare cases parsing time has been improved by 85%, so I'd like to minimise any potential effort as much as possible. cqm 22:54, 28 Jun 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
Going back to my original questions, what items are tradeable but not alchable? I'm good moving the usage into the main data, I'll even make a bot to update the prices until TyBot/AzBot are updated if I have to :) cqm 22:59, 28 Jun 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
No, no, I just wanted some examples to look at and test with. Those four are more than enough :) cqm 23:08, 28 Jun 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
I think I'm nearly done with the exchange page conversion, could you take a look at Module:Exchange/Iron bar and Module:Exchange/Iron bar/Data to make sure they're adequate for updating? You might want to tweak whitespace here and there or lay something out differently to make them easier to update, I'm not sure. I've also moved the usage into the data as well (see the first page) if you wanted to check it. cqm 00:50, 2 Jul 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

Looting bag[edit source]

Hi, on RS my user name is plum deadly. I play OS. Not sure where it came from, but I have an item in my bank called 'Looting bag' and I haven't been able to find any info about it at Wiki. Examine results in, "You can store stuff in the bag when you're in the Wilderness." I was hoping someone might be able to find some info on this item.

Thanks for all your hard work and best wishes!

Can you have your bot make sure every examine text on exchange pages are correct. (Not that I understand why we even need to have examine text there of all places...) The only ones I know are wrong offhand are portents that mention life points. MolMan 14:04, August 9, 2014 (UTC)

Unknown location[edit source]

Im not sure how to edit a page, nor do i want to go throught the process of being able to, but I just wanted to let you know that while doing an elite clue scroll, i came across a location that was not in the wiki.

Those are links to the puushed i took of my location and the mini map.  I didn't know who else to contact, or if there was a certain person to do so, so if you could just take this into suggestion to maybe be added as an additional location, that would be awesomen 04:20, September 29, 2014 (UTC) Chris Ward (RSN)

Historic volume data[edit source]

I was looking through the volume data and noticed it's updated in batches (or has been lately). I wasn't sure if that's down to TyBot forgetting to do it, or if it's solely dealt with by AzBot, but I was curious where the historic data came from. Is it pulled from the history of the exchange page or do you get it from a Jagex API? cqm 12:13, 14 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

It's from the Total column here:
TyBot used to do it, but now doesn't. Now I just update the volume data when I have the time...
  az talk   00:48, October 15, 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, I understand where it's coming from, I'm just confused how it's done in cases such as [ this]. All I see in the table is the most recent volume data, rather than the data for the past week, or later. cqm 12:25, 15 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
What table? What are you talking about?   az talk   03:18, October 16, 2014 (UTC)
So here there's the volume data (in a table). We take the value in the last column, which is the total for the previous 7 days, which is then copied to each item's exchange page and it's associated /Data page, assuming it appears on that list. For example, Spirit shards has a volume of 498.7 as of 08:47, October 16, 2014 (UTC) which is copied to Exchange:Spirit shards and Exchange:Spirit shards/Data as AzBot has done here and [ here] respectively.
However, if you look at the second diff, AzBot has added 16 previous volume amounts in addition to the 498.7 currently found in the table. Where did those points come from? I know the 6 new time and price values come from the average object here along with the 9 correct time values, but I can't see where you get the previous 16 volume values from. cqm 08:47, 16 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
Oh. That's from the same page, from the previous 16 days, stored in AzBot's database. You won't get it from anywhere else. (Google Cache may contain yesterday's data point, if you're lucky. If I forget to run AzBot on a particular day, I can get yesterday's point from Google Cache...) Otherwise, I run AzBot to update its database everyday. And when I do update the wiki, AzBot updates the item data pages accordingly, as you noticed.   az talk   06:39, October 17, 2014 (UTC)
Ah, that explains it, I was wondering if there was a secret API you'd discovered :P
A couple of other things I was wondering:
 • Do the volume amounts update with the GED updates or at midnight UTC (or another regular time interval)?
 • Do the volume amounts update when the GED is down? I'm finally getting around to updating the gemwupdate js script and was wondering whether to update volume data with manual updates or not.
cqm 10:28, 17 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
(1) The volume page does not seem to update exactly with the price updates. There is a slight "lag" (usually within 1-2 hours) where the page shows yesterday's volumes instead of the today's volume. So I would assume the volume page is updated independently. I haven't verified the exact time, but the time varies throughout the day, as with the price updates. AFAIK, the price updates are not fixed either. (2) No, I don't suppose the volume updates when the GED is down. (The volumes would be exactly the same from the last time they were updated. But, the prices would be zero. This tells me the GED is down.)   az talk   10:41, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Last few questions (I promise :P):

 • Joey's gemwupdate js script has a fallback for when the GED doesn't have a price stored for an item, but no description of when this might occur. Do you know when this might happen, and more importantly how to test the script handles it correctly?
 • Is it reasonable to assume the price, last, date and lastdate parameters are filled out on page creation? For example, price=$price, last=$price, date=$date, lastdate=$date so when it is updated the first time it becomes price=$new_price, last=$price, date=$new_date, lastdate=$date.
 • Would you like the gemwupdate js script to update /Data pages as well? Even if only for semi-automatic updates?
 • For conversion to lua, which I'm very nearly ready to implement, do you think volume and volumeDate should be set to nil (which is lua's version of undefined) if there's no value found or just remove the parameters?

I figured you'd be the best person to ask these things as you're probably most familiar with how our exchange setup works. cqm 08:50, 18 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

(1) Not sure. Perhaps it occurred in the past. I would guess this happened when the GED failed to update, or when new items are added, there were no prices for those items...
(2) Yes.
(3) Yes!
(4) IMO, remove the parameters. There's only ~300 items with volume data, compared to a total of ~3800 items.   az talk   07:48, October 19, 2014 (UTC)
Ok, I left a note for Joey about when the GED doesn't have a price stored. Your explanation seems reasonable, but if the GED doesn't have the item then it follows that we don't have the items GED id. Hopefully he can remember when it occurs.
I've implemented the /Data updating with User:Cqm/gemw.js with a couple of caveats:
 • It won't detect any incorrect data points, it just checks the last time and fills in any after that. This is largely because I couldn't get my head around implementing it, but it could cause some issues matching the volume data to the times if I started re-organising stuff.
 • It won't update volume data with manual updating enabled per the discussion above about volume data not updating when the GED is down.
 • It only looks for volume data if it detects existing volume data for the item. This is the same as the current script, which saves the script inserting any missing params in weird places.

Re: Exchange modules[edit source]

 1. Lua has types, e.g. int, string, etc. so the only way to do it is to convert them to strings. In doing that, you'd need to convert them back to a number every time you wanted to manipulate them in some way. whilst I can see the point in having difficulty reading numbers without commas I'd guess that discussion dated back from when exchange pages were often updated manually but these days the chances of a price being updated manually is slim and is only ever going to be done by someone familiar with how the exchange pages work. The price output for GEP or for exchange pages would always contain commas would that be enough?
 2. The comments can be removed, they were just temporary really
 3. I've grouped the parameters to by how often they're updated, but if there's a reason hey're in the current order, such as AzBot expecting them to be that way, it's easy to change them back :)
 4. The graphs should work. My plan is to have both modules and exchange pages updated until all the templates are converted to pulling data from modules then switch the exchange pages to pulling data from modules. I have an example here which seems to do everything the current graph does. I suspect I also need to update the graph script as well to look for data in modules rather than exchange pages, but that should be all that needs changing. cqm 09:32, 23 Oct 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

Prices[edit source]

I updated RuneScape:Exchange namespace/Updating manually to replace the price checker with just examining the item. Feels like an obsolete method for checking prices one at a time since we have examine texts. But maybe you want the price checker method back in there, to which I have no objections. Up to you. Re: Zero prices[edit source]

I'd guess that would be interpreted as us having the most up to date price, assuming we had the price from the 12th. I think the no prices thing occurs when the item has been released but has no GED data, but I'd have thought that would result in a 404 error. I'm also confused where we'd have got the item id from. All I can think of is that there's a automated script running somewhere that always pushes prices to the GED API when there's an update, but if it can't get to the prices it just pushes an empty string. Or it might be the default result from the database.

I'd ask Jagex, but they're not exactly known replying to this stuff :/ cqm 10:49, 20 Nov 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

Exchange module format[edit source]

I've implemented your requests for the exchange module format, an example can be seen here. Is there anything else you'd like to change before we start the conversion? All I'm waiting on now is TyBot to have it's new code tested which apparently updates volume data again as well. After that everything should be good to go :)

Something Ty inadvertently brought up the other day is that he was planning on using a category to get a list of exchange pages to update which the modules lack. Does AzBot have this dependency? If so, are you ok with using the API equivalent of Special:PrefixIndex/Module:Exchange/? cqm 01:30, 22 Nov 2014 (UTC) (UTC)

Yeah, its fine. AzBot use its own list for updating... doesn't need a category.
Can't categories be added for modules? There are a lot of things currently being tracked with categories, like "needs price update", "missing limit", "missing value", etc.   az talk   02:51, November 22, 2014 (UTC)
The categories will continue to be found on the exchange pages. I can add a link to the source of the data (the module) if it makes updating the missing data any easier? cqm 00:37, 28 Nov 2014 (UTC) (UTC)
No need for now... We'll add it if it is needed later.   az talk   03:06, November 28, 2014 (UTC)[edit source]

GEMW FAQ[edit source]

The actual contents of the page make them honestly inappropriate for the content namespace. The way the page is built, it's a project page. It describes a subproject of the wiki, so it's a project page. Having it in the content namespace is stupid and makes little sense. I think you should think about what those pages are actually for. Though judging by my last few messages, you're going to ignore any input I make because you're more comfortable just pretending like I'm not right. MolMan 01:05, January 5, 2015 (UTC)

i'm planning to move the entire set of GEMW pages and subpages later, when we're done with the lua conversion of the GE project... please be patient. Index Data[edit source]

In reviewing all exchange related templates, I discovered the data for the trade indexes and noticed it's not updated all that often. I realise it's likely down to when you have some spare time/remember, but I wondered if it'd be suitable as one of TyBot's tasks, probably to run after everything else has updated. I'm not 100% sure how it's calculated, hence I thought I'd ask before mentioning it to Ty. cqm 13:39, 16 Jan 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

Re:GE smallcharts[edit source]

It's something I'm still mulling over right now, but I'm thinking of doing something like . I haven't implemented that yet, but as it happens works fine for the time being :) I altered the usage on AzBot's userpage, I hope that's ok/doesn't break anything :) cqm 15:42, 30 Jan 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

Thanks, it doesn't break anything.   az talk   03:15, January 31, 2015 (UTC)
Just a heads up that I'm removing all the /Data transclusions and usage links from exchange pages (as I write this) so you can update AzBot if it needs to be :)
Also, I noticed User:Azliq7/GEMW70 Volume Index no longer works following turning on pulling data from modules. Did you want to keep it for anything/could it be used in the GEMW? cqm 21:34, 30 Jan 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
GEMW70 was an idea i had to track items in the "Most traded" list. i never completed it, it seems. totally forgot about it. fixed that page for now.   az talk   03:15, January 31, 2015 (UTC)

Re: GE smallcharts[edit source]

Sorry for taking so long to deal with this, it's been a busy few weeks unfortunately. It was caused by MediaWiki:common.js/calc.js, oddly enough it's something I've noticed before and wondered about but always just assumed it still worked. cqm 23:02, 4 May 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

icon and item parameters[edit source]

I'm going to run a script to remove the icon and item fields from exchange modules in the near future. The former is definitely not used anywhere, and I believe I've fixed all the latter examples. I'll add something to derive the item name from the module name, so it'll still display. Can you think of any reason to keep either? cqm 18:51, 2 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

Ah sorry, I didn't quite realise the slashes were depended on by a bot. The headers should be fixable for exchange pages as it doesn't have subpages enabled so we output a custom header to look the same, so I'll just split it when /Data exists. For modules I'm not sure, but a js solution would probably work.
The issues with the flatpack construction is due to a complete lack of naming convention for furniture beyond the icons, which in the case of the large icons isn't followed. My main thinking for removing the icon parameter was to bring it inline with GEIcon which has long used naming convention to produce the icon. GEItem does it as well iirc. However, I think it's a little misleading to use the incorrect icon. Perhaps we can implement some kind of naming convention specifically for flatpacks? If we assume the tradeable item should trump the normal icon, what about :File:Mahogany 'drobe flatpack.png -> File:Mahogany 'drobe.png and :File:Mahogany wardrobe.png -> File:Mahogany 'drobe icon.png? cqm 07:52, 5 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
Well, as you mention that policy: "Images of item taken in the inventory should be called <Item name>.png", which is what the flatpacks are. I've yet to find an image with the built suffix, but I should be able to sort those out pretty easily. However, we then have "Images of skill-specific icons should be called <Object name> icon.png, e.g. "Yew tree (Construction) icon.png". This includes Construction icons and Hunter icons." Assuming we then apply the flatpack suffix, we should never anything relating to images of furniture without icon, built or flatpack in the file name. It seems easier to simply drop the flapack rule which then fixes all flatpack exchange icons straight away.
Could you post the list of all the items with differing icon names? I'm intrigued to see what else doesn;t follow the rule (as they all should have been changed after Forum:Change to Exchange icons, which interestingly explicitly mentions construction icons. cqm 06:30, 6 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
I'm a little confused what you mean with respect to Parlour and Template:Parlour. All I see are the icons from the ingame guide, I have not changed them to the flatpack icons as I agree the interface cons are more recognisable. I noticed a few issues with caching early on in the file renames, perhaps that's what caused what you saw?
As for the rule you added to the policy, I still don't see why it is necessary. Inventory icons use the item name in almost every case. Why are construction icons different? It's not like I'm not correcting the links and making it confusing for readers, nor is it remotely likely that anyone will go near construction articles given the exceedingly small amounts of updates it receives. My end goal is to make sure GEIcon functions as it should and it relies on image naming consistency. The only difficulty I'm adding is with plink, and as I'm fixing those cases I don't see the issue.
If you still feel strongly about the image naming, I'm happy to open a forum to get some other opinions and then rename all construction images according to the consensus there. Would that be more suitable?
Also, many thanks for the list. cqm 07:25, 8 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
Looking through the list (excluding flatpack images), many of the icons used in the module are actually redirects. There are a few cases where the image does exist under it's correct name but isn't used, e.g. Battlestaff, but those are few and far between. cqm 07:34, 8 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
Personally, I don't think adding the icon suffix to ~80 flatpack images is that much of a big deal. They're not used in so many places that it should really be an issue. Right now, I have no idea how to append flatpack to ge icons because I don't like the idea of having them dependent on something like category or usage (which won't work for GEIcon anyway). If you can think of an easy way to fix GEIcon then I'm all for the naming convention your way. Either way, I agree consistency should be aimed for here.
Another idea I had was to utilise the flatpack and icon suffixes (making them easier to search for with DPL) and then use redirects for one or the other to link to the non-suffixed name. If only there was a way to do conditional redirects based on usage. cqm 07:17, 9 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

Red link[edit source]

Your revert caused a red link, as Cqm's bot seems to have already renamed those files (making it not the best example for the rule)... Can you take a look at it? IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 03:57, June 8, 2015 (UTC)

RuneScape API ratelimits[edit source]

Hi, I was wondering if you knew what was returned when you get ratelimited via the RuneScape API? I'm interested in the hiscores APIs specifically, but if you know any of them it would be a great help.

I've also just realised I forgot to reply to your last message concerning GEIcon. As far as I can tell, Grand Exchange Market Watch is the only page that uses the template and has a chance of it being a flatpack, which I was completely unaware of. I'm a tad baffled as to why we even have the template given it's rather small usage. Anyway, I'm willing to go with your suggestion of making an exception for GEIcon, and I'll see if I can utilise the construction products GED category to influence the name for Exchange pages (and maybe GEItem. I'll move the files back when I get a spare few hours. cqm 07:48, 19 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

It is, would I be right in thinking it returns a 200 HTTP status as well in that case?
I think I'm going to have to run some extra tests to determine the exact error anyway, but having a rough idea of what to expect is better than nothing. It's so we can improve error handling in RSHiscores, but not many people have that much experience with what it does when it doesn't return something useful. cqm 07:40, 20 Jun 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

Re:Volume Data[edit source]

I think it's preferable to have the data as close to the time of the update as possible, thus as close to the timestamp pulled from the API as we can get. Would it be possible for AzBot to simply look up missing values if it comes across them, i.e. if the time is missing volume data because TyBot didn't run for a few days?

Otherwise, we could start looking at maintaining separate volume data for each item and ignoring the timestamp used by the API and just go with whatever the time is when we do the update (assuming AzBot checks the volume data every couple of hours). cqm 07:17, 24 Aug 2015 (UTC) (UTC)
