Protection on Nex

We were actually in process of talking with each other before you protected it. The reason for them is because of edit conflicts and losing information swapping from one version to the other. Now we can't fix the article anymore. D: Farming cape (t).png Lil cloud 9 Talk 04:59, January 11, 2011 (UTC)

Also, that was not exactly a violation of the 3RR when I only had 2 reverts and Scion had 3. It should not be our combined total. Farming cape (t).png Lil cloud 9 Talk 05:01, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
If you guys are prepared to play nicely I'll unlock it. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 05:04, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
Also, I don't really care that one of you technically didn't have 3 reverts. The point of the policy is to prevent edit wars, which is what you two were doing. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 05:06, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
RS:3RR clearly states that a single editor should not make more than 3 reverts on a single page. Not at anytime did either of us violate the policy. I am fully aware of the policy and would have made sure it was resolved by the second one if the explanation in the history was not enough to communicate the message. Farming cape (t).png Lil cloud 9 Talk 05:08, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
Please don't be unnecessarily bureaucratic and/or pedantic. Unfortunately I repeat myself when I state that the point of RS:3RR is to stop people from edit warring. Whatever it might state on the policy page, edit warring is still two users repeatedly undoing each other's changes on a given article. You and Scion were edit warring. I locked the page to stop the two of you. It is now unlocked and you two have come to an agreement. End of story. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 05:25, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
What is the point of the policy when it says 3RR? 3RR doesn't define edit warring, but says it should be avoided. The point is that blocking the page was not the reason that an agreement was reached. It was because we started communicating on the talk page since we are already aware of the policy before you even protected the page. Farming cape (t).png Lil cloud 9 Talk 05:36, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
All I saw was revert, revert, revert. If you two were already working it out, then my protection was merely a precaution. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 05:37, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
All right. Then we'll leave it at that then. :) Farming cape (t).png Lil cloud 9 Talk 05:40, January 11, 2011 (UTC)

Remember to fix file links after moving files, you have left a large mess in Wanted Files that I'm cleaning up. Just because links aren't in the mainspace doesn't mean you're exempt from fixing them. 222 talk 10:17, January 11, 2011 (UTC)

No one should have to go through each and every one of those userpages and fix every single link except the users themselves. Asking any one person to do that is beyond ridiculous. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 10:20, January 11, 2011 (UTC)

Also, the way she was posed make it more difficult to see details such as her wing-like things. The new image isn't necessarily bad, but it's lacking enough compared to the GG image to justify using the GG instead. My understanding is that Fair use allows us to use GG images for educational purposes so long as we do not have a free image fulfilling the same purposes. In my mind, that works in this situation, though I may be wrong. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 12:38, January 12, 2011 (UTC)

Revert on charm log

May I ask why this edit was not possible by the IP? It was 31 kills with 20 charms at a time, meaning 6 gold, 5 green, 1 crim, and 11 blue with 8 no-charms. Farming cape (t).png Lil cloud 9 Talk 01:27, January 13, 2011 (UTC)

Woodcutting training

I redirected the disambig to Free-to-play Woodcutting training because (to me) a two-item disambig is useless. It takes an extra click and extra loading time to choose the result you're looking for; on the other hand, if the disambig is redirected to one of the articles, there's a fifty-fifty chance that it's the right one. If it's not, then an {{otheruses}} template at the top can link to the other page. </rant> :3 --Iiii I I I 01:13, January 15, 2011 (UTC)

The problem is that you can't do something like that completely arbitrarily and neutrally; you must pick either f2p or p2p to be the "primary article" to which the "Woodcutting training" page redirects. Since both are equally valid searches, giving one priority over the other is improper. If you look, all the f2p skills have disambigs for searching "<skill> training". --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 01:20, January 15, 2011 (UTC)

Gif tags

Their quality is not reduced by them being gifs, and they are not likely to be resized which often the reason for using pngs. If you wanted png versions you could simply resave them as pngs rather than having to recapture them in game. Henneyj 21:29, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

I meant in this case we can just convert them because there are no quality issues - the images are the the same as the captured image. I can kinda see your point with people who want to replace with pngs using the tag, I just deleted the tags because they don't need replacing. Although png is preferred there's not a lot of point in replacing images already if they've already been uploaded in gif. Henneyj 21:44, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
There's no problem with the standard of the images. They are of equal standard in .gif quality as they would be in .png. Henneyj 21:53, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

Re:RfA consensus

This is to clear up any issues with the recent closure of Sentra's RfA, so it's addressed to all those who requested an explanation.

I should first mention that this wasn't a clear-cut closure, I spent several hours mulling over the decision, and for a while, I was stuck between closing it as successful or closing it as a no-consensus. And to a certan extent, I did expect some sort of community backlash regarding this.

As with consensus, I didn't focus on the numbers, I focused on the strength of arguments. I did note the number of supporters/opposers, but it was not a large factor in how I came to the conclusion, and I made it a point to try and understand the viewpoints of those who voted on the RfA. The supporters had the standard arguments, that Sentra understood and would use the tools if given them, and that he is active/hardworking/dedicated on the Wiki, etc. The real issues that need to be explained are the points of contention. From what I saw, the main issues were the incident with Stelercus, Sentra's immaturity, poor spelling, and the FIMG incident.

I would have liked to explain this bit in private since it involves naming names and such, but it seems that this is unavoidable. Regarding certain points I did not mention above, such as Real not Pure's argument. I found it irrelevant since he seemed to be making an equivocation that Sentra not giving due consideration to some of his proposed ideas = Sentra would not give due consideration to blocks/deletions, which I saw as being an unsound argument, so I did not factor it in. I also did not factor in Ikin's argument since it appears to be wholly based on an IRC incident that has been disputed by other users.

For Stelercus's point about the Wikifest incident between him and Sentra, I don't dispute the incident happening, but I found Stelercus to be rather vague. He also provided no examples when asked by other users. I did ask Sentra for his side of the story on IRC (which apparently got exaggerated to be a conversation that affected my final decision), but only to understand the context of the incident. According to Sentra, he did not insult Stelercus, but may have offended him with his comment about "screwing over" the Aussies. I took it with a grain of salt, since we are naturally biased and try to make ourselves appear in a favourable light... Regardless, other users pointed out that Sentra rarely loses his cool, and while I hardly know him, I haven't seen him lose control of his emotions on the Wiki either. Thus, I found that Stelercus argument wasn't particularly strong, but it was still a factor of my decision. I took it to be an isolated incident however.

Regarding Liquidhelium's arguments (countervandalism, maturity, grammar, trust), I found the countervandalism aspect weak, seeing as it has been brought up that Sentra is active in countervandalism, and logically speaking, it is not possible for him to cover his entire timezone daily. I will address the maturity issue later on. Regarding grammar, Liquid himself pointed out it wasn't a "make-or-break aspect", and I would agree. On a personal level, I am not impressed by Sentra's command of the English language (since if I'm not mistaken, it is his first language), but his grammar/spelling isn't atrocious to the point of it being unintelligible, which is why I took it to be rather minor. Finally, about the FIMG incident, from my point of view, Sentra attempted to address it and had to later change his statement which seemed a little fishy to some. However, it should be noted that he has nothing to gain from nominating an image a few weeks too early, and for the "playing dumb" bit, I found it too subjective to be considered as an actual fact. I don't have the log of the conversation, so simply based on what I had to go on, I made a judgment call and took it to be a possible assumption of bad faith on Liquid's part (no offence intended), but I wouldn't have given it much weightage regardless simply because the issue was not a big deal in the first place.

Now for the maturity issue, something that needs to be pointed out is that points backed up with examples make the strongest arguments. There seems to be the notion that raising past examples to support your point is a poor practice, but it seems to be forgotten that bureaucrats are neutral closers and often (like in this case), bureaucrats may hardly know the candidate at all. Providing examples of such past behaviour is far better than making a baseless statement that so-and-so isn't mature, especially when you have an opposite group (the supporters) claiming the exact opposite. I noted that several opposers made a point about him being immature, but when I privately asked for an example, I found that the statement was really based on some of his actions/mannerisms (on a feeling, was the exact phrase) and such, but there were no concrete examples of immaturity on Sentra's part. Based on what I had to go on in this RfA, and a few randomly-picked examples that I took from his contributions to discussions (examples from before the RfA began), I found that Sentra handled himself reasonably well in discussions, so I did not give the maturity issue as large a weightage as if some evidence was provided to support the point.

All in all, when I closed the RfA, the general consensus I found was that Sentra did know how to and would make good use of the tools if given them. He is generally trusted, and while he does have a few flaws, none of them are quite huge enough to make him unsuitable to be an administrator. While he's not perfect, fundamentally he is not flawed, and would make a good admin, and I closed it as such.

I should take this time to point out that I am not going all out to show that Sentra should be an admin. I don't know him at all, but as a neutral party, the consensus I determined from his RfA was a successful one. Hopefully, this clears up some of the issues that a few members of the community have. Thanks. C.ChiamTalk 10:23, March 5, 2011 (UTC)
