Welcome![edit | edit source]
I'm Neo Garland. Usually referred to by other players as Neo, but my full name or just Garland are preferable. I joined The RuneScape Wiki on December 10, 2008, but I've been playing RunesScape off and on for many years. I hope our work together will be pleasant and beneficial to all involved.
About my RuneScape Exploits[edit | edit source]
I joined Runescape in November of 2004, having since gone from regular play to many devoted membership hours to long periods of inactivity and back again several times over by now. I pride myself on good communication skills and being helpful (and sometimes generous) to those in need, but don't expect me to hold your hand. When I give my time to others I do so in the hopes that they can learn to help themselves and become self-sufficient players.
Activity[edit | edit source]
As a free player, I'm most active on World 13. I sometimes play Fist of Guthix on World 20 or 25, but I don't spend much time there otherwise. At present I can be on RuneScape at almost any time of the day, but I don't usually get on every day at the moment. This is all subject to change depending on any shifts in schedule or memberships, so nothing is really set in stone here.
Friends[edit | edit source]
I'm a tiny bit selective about my friends in RuneScape. I'm not entirely against making acquaintances, but I prefer fewer, more personal relationships and I've never seen RuneScape as much of a place to form those. Please ask me first before you make any additions to your friends list, and understand that I may not be up to the idea of having any buddies. I'm sorry, it's nothing personal really. I just like making these decisions slowly and carefully is all.
About my Editing Work[edit | edit source]
I have edited for wikis before, but this is going to be my first major commitment to one. I see myself as more of a proofreader than a content creator. While others bring in new pieces of articles and place them how they will, I make it my job to rearrange the pieces to fit together perfectly and boil it down to everything the reader needs to know and not a word more.
Style[edit | edit source]
Usually my edits will take the form of several minor edits in a row as I change around a few things, look it over a second time until I notice anything I miss, and then make more changes, repeating the cycle until I'm satisfied that everything is in order. I do my best to avoid generalizations and/or common observations and to keep articles impersonal, displaying just the facts and letting the reader draw their own conclusions. Aside from cleanup, I'm likely to talk often about how articles can be merged and shortened in order to better simplify the wiki into fewer, more informing articles as well.
Objective[edit | edit source]
If I had to limit myself to a single goal with my editing, I'd have to say it would be improving the efficiency of the wiki as much as possible. That means eliminating needless words and statements, combining like articles when they don't convey much information separately, and ensuring a comprehensive but consistent web of links in between pages to minimize time spent searching for articles and maximize time reading what you want to know.
