Gear guide promo, using gloves.

See Equipment tables for a full list of gloves

Armour type[edit | edit source]

Like boots, the armour stat of gloves is much less important than the damage value - and any special effects they have.

That said, it is generally better to use some gloves over no gloves - if they're the correct style (or hybrid), of course.

Levels 1-60 - Tank[edit | edit source]

Lower levels will generally be advanced quickly, so things will only be covered briefly here. There are, of course, many, many more gloves available at these levels than noted here, but they are mostly irrelevant.

Tiers 1-70 - Culinaromancer[edit | edit source]

Culinaromancer's gloves are a number of quest-locked gloves ranging from tier 1 all the way to 70. They are all generally great budget gloves - if earned before the Fremennik gloves. The top tier of gloves - culinaromancer's gloves 10, often called barrows gloves - are an upgrade from Fremennik gloves for relatively cheap, though they are outclassed by royal spiky vambraces and lunar gloves.

Tier 50 - Fremennik[edit | edit source]

A great set of cheap and effective low-level armour. It is worth re-iterating that the entire armour set is good for low levels with minimal quest requirements, and is fairly ironman-friendly.

Tier 60[edit | edit source]

A worthwhile mention is the entire lunar armour set, which is a quest-locked set that is just a strictly better skeletal set.

While all vambraces can be made spiky, royal are the highest level. Extremely effective for the price. Not very ironman friendly.

The standard in gloves. Non-degradeable power for each style, with a prayer bonus. Can be reasonably pricey for what they are, mostly because of the Invention materials they give, or general demand.

Special effects aside, the actual difference between these gloves and higher level gloves is actually relatively small. These can often just be all the gloves you'll ever need for raw stats, only upgrading for effects - though pushing stats up slightly can be important for bossing, particularly high level/enrage or for speed kills.

Tier 75[edit | edit source]

As these are tank gloves, they are mostly not worth considering. They do, however, provide some useful Invention materials.

Hybrid - Warpriest[edit | edit source]

On their own, warpriest gloves are mostly worthless - they are simply worse than culinaromancer gloves 10 or God Wars Dungeon gloves. However, when wearing multiple parts of warpriest, a set effect is enabled (damage reduction for Saradomin and Zamorak, ability cooldown reduction for Armadyl and Bandos, and critical hits for Tuska). While the effects are useful, at least three armour parts need to be worn, which usually means at least one important part of armour is sacrificed. For the most part, this is not a good trade. At select encounters with frequent weapon changes - e.g. Dagannoth Kings, Kalphite Queen - you may prefer to use hybrid armour, which may mean warpriest is worth it.

Warpriest armour comes in tier 25, 50, and 75 variants which automatically upgrade with your Defence level, making it decent armour for low levels that retains some relevancy into higher levels - particularly for hardcore ironmen, as the Tuska set can be easily and safely earned from Anima Islands.

Straight upgrades to God Wars Dungeon gloves, with a corresponding price increase. These also degrade to broken, giving them an upkeep cost.

As Nex gloves have an effective 30,000 charges of combat, they degrade fairly quickly, especially in comparison to the tier 90 power gloves, which have better stats and a similar price point. This, in combination with other gloves being situationally better (cinderbanes, nightmares, etc) makes these much less used than their boot counterparts.

While these gloves are tank gloves and provide no direct damage bonus, they are actually very offensively and defensively potent due to their special effects. All three provide a 5% chance of dealing 25% extra damage with auto-attacks or basic abilities, which also lowers the target's combat stats. They also provide passive damage reduction (of one damage type, related to their style) of 1-5%, with a 5% chance of reducing it by 25-50% instead.

The downside of the Dominion Tower gloves is that they degrade fairly quickly, having only 15,000 charges of incoming damaging hits. While they do degrade slower than you would expect for a 15,0000 charge item, they still degrade more quickly than Nex gloves - especially as the best place to use these gloves is at bosses, which are likely to be fairly accurate and thus drain the charges faster.

Power - Nightmare[edit | edit source]

Nightmare gauntlets are extremely strong ranged gloves. They are better than Pernix gloves in the ways that matter, and, importantly, have a strong passive effect: while wearing the gloves, the ranged ability Snipe can be used while moving and has 25% greater accuracy. This makes Snipe, which is already a very strong basic, even stronger by making it less cumbersome to use; one can also expect it to almost never miss against most ranged-weak bosses (even when other abilities do miss).

Against monsters that are poison-immune, nightmare gauntlets are potentially best-in-slot for ranged.

Advanced players may want to bring along nightmare gauntlets as a switch, with ascension grips/Tempest gloves/cinderbanes as the primary gloves.

Power - Passage[edit | edit source]

Gloves of passage are a dual-wield melee equivalent of nightmare gauntlets. The buff is strong but not quite as large: while wearing the gloves, the Havoc dual-wield melee ability grants a 7% damage increase to the next melee ability used. (This is similar to the effect of the Needle Strike ranged ability.) While gloves of passage are similarly best-in-slot for dual-wield melee, their price makes them somewhat less used.

Hybrid power - Cinderbane[edit | edit source]

Zero weakness icon.png

Damage 11
Requirements 85 Defence

GE Price 91,614,019

Cinderbane gloves are deceptively strong. They have stats of around God Wars Dungeon gloves and a passive ability: while worn, hits have a chance of poisoning the target; if the target is already poisoned, when a poison hitsplat happens, an additional hitsplat can occur (which can trigger another hit and so on). This effect works with and without a dedicated weapon poison potion applied, and when used together is even more effective. Cinderbane gloves do not evade poison immunity - if the monster is immune to poison, cinderbane gloves are effectively just degrading God Wars Dungeon gloves.

Because of this passive effect, cinderbane gloves have the most potential damage increase of any gloves - even more so with weapon poison. They are effectively best-in-slot while fighting poison-susceptible monsters, which contributes to their price and availability.

Raids gloves are tank armour, so on their own they aren't great. However, the set effect of raids equipment is very strong for defensive roles: while wearing the set, there is a 2% per part chance upon hit for all your defensive abilities to have their cooldown reset. This significantly increases the uptime of strong defensive abilities like Debilitate, Devotion, Barricade, and Immortality.

The achto version of raids gloves are the same, but have an additional effect: while wearing a weapon and shield (both matching combat class with the armour), each achto part increases the damage of the weapon by 10% of a fastest-speed off-hand of the shield's tier (5% for defenders). That is, if a main-hand-only drygore weapon is 100% damage, dual drygores is 150%, a drygore with a malevolent shield and full achto teralith is 125%, and a drygore with a kalphite defender and full achto teralith is 137.5%.

Raids gloves are worth using with the rest of the set when actively using defensive abilities often.

The next step up in plain power armour from Nex gloves. Nothing too remarkable about these, other than the price point is often competitive with Nex gloves; these last three times as long but degrade to dust, whereas Nex gloves are repairable.

Provides no armour, but is a high level bracelet with tier 90 equivalent damage bonus for all styles and a passive effect: 20% chance of reflecting 25-50% damage. Reflect-immune monsters still take damage from this, but it is reduced by half (or more). The effect is best when fighting strong monsters, so higher amounts are reflected - however, such monsters are often reflect-immune, hampering the effect. Overall, cinderbanes or tier 90 power gloves are a better choice.

As the bracelet has no requirements, they can be used at any level - so a particularly rich low level player could get them for the bonuses.
