Adding the RuneScape game client to Steam is an easy task. This presumes you already have a Steam account and have Steam installed.

When the client is installed you can access the Steam overlay if you have it enabled (by pressing Shift+Tab in-game, or whatever you have changed it to in settings), as well as taking screenshots (JPGs, by pressing F12 or whatever you changed the keybind to).

Adding the client[edit | edit source]

Windows[edit | edit source]

  1. Download and install the client: RuneScape home -> Game Info -> Downloads
  2. Open Steam. Click Games->Add a non-steam game to my library.
  3. Find RuneScape in the window - browse for it if you cannot find it by default you should have a shortcut on your desktop).
  4. Find RuneScape in your Library. Right-click it and select Properties.
  5. Append runescape to the Target: field, outside of the quotes. It will now look something like "C:\Users\<name>\jagexcache\jagexlauncher\bin\JagexLauncher.exe" runescape (depends on where you told the client to install)
  6. Click close.
  7. Test that it works by clicking Play.

Fixing the icon[edit | edit source]

Windows[edit | edit source]

This is a bit more complex.

  1. Find the shortcut to the RuneScape client on your desktop - if you deleted it, you may be able to find the icon by manually looking for it using the example below.
  2. Right-click the icon and click Properties. Click Change Icon.
  3. At the top of this new window the field Look for icons in this file: - take note of the value in this field. By default is something similar to %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Installer\{FAE99C85-0732-4C58-9C6B-10B5B12FA2E9}\launcher.exe. The hex code part may vary.
  4. Open Steam and go to the properties window for the RuneScape client, per step 4 above.
  5. Click Choose Icon.
  6. Browse to the folder found above - you can't type in %APPDATA%, so will have to manually browse to it (by default it is C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming.
  7. Select the file launcher.exe. (This is just an .ico file changed to a .exe - you can manually change it if you want to edit the icon, just change it back.)
  8. Click OK and Close.
  9. The icon may not change instantly - just select a different game then reselect RuneScape and it should update.
