## Effective Smelting GP/Hour[edit | edit source]

I don't like how the chart on the bar page lists pure smelting profit for only the most basic cases.

In the following, I've added a column that includes the effective profit per bar smelted including the 10 percent chance to craft double bars. If you were to craft a batch of 28 steel bars for example, you would average generating 30.8 bars instead. This extra column tells you the profit for selling off those 30.8 bars after only paying for the ingredients for 28 of them.

**About Levels:** The levels listed in this chart are the levels needed to smelt bars at the profit rate listed in the "Profit/Hour" column. This includes the level at which players have earned all upgrades for smelting the given bar, which includes speed upgrades as well as a 10 percent chance to craft double bars (reflected per smelting action in the "Profit (w/10%)" column).

If you have the modified blacksmith's helmet, then you'll increase this to 11%, which is reflected in the appropriate columns as well.

**Note**: Gold smelting is a little different in that you only get about 1,600 bars/hour and there are no bonuses like getting a 10 percent chance to get an extra bar, etc. However, the total profit/hour listed in the 10% column is accurate for just smelting gold bars, and there is a link to the money making guide page for it down below. In the 11% column, you do get a 1% chance for double bars with the modified blacksmith's helmet, and that's reflected in the hourly listed there.

All of these hourly profits are based on 2,000 bars per hour (the maximum possible speed for these bars listed above), which assumes you have all of the speed upgrades for producing the given bar. It also assumes you have a chance for double bars at a rate of 10 percent, as noted in the previous column.

Note that there is a special case for the profits for iron bars in the table above. These profits assume that you are using one iron ore and a ring of forging. Because of the time spent monitoring the rings, we have to assume that your bars/hour rate would be considerably less than the other bars. Note that with the modified blacksmith's helmet and the Varrock armour 1, there's a total of a 15 percent chance to create extra bars, which leads to a profit of 2,141,285.71/hour.

Smelting gold ore is also possible, but there are no speed upgrades and no chance of double bars. You'll end up smelting 1,600/hour with the decreased rate, and this will always produce exactly 1,600 bars/hour since there is no doubling of gold bars. This leads to a considerably lower profit per hour unless the ore/bar margin is particularly good. Additionally, level 40 is required for smelting gold bars. For more information, see the money making guide page for smelting gold ore since it'll just tell you the hourly straight-up.
