Sand Table Concept: List and break down hard or more complex tasks.

NOMAD[edit | edit source]

This is probably the first real fight I've ran into with this game. You can tell that Jax planned on people failing, alot, at this fight given that your gravestone is right beside where you rez and that you go back to soulwars not Falador. It does remind me of some of the early raid bosses from WoW especially Kara. Given that this fight actually requires strategy and use of some pots that tend to be expensive it is no wonder why people fail at this.

Try 1

  • Tactic: Range from pillar with BoB
  • Date: 21AUG2010
  • Stats of attack: 108 Combat, 84 Range, 79 Defense, 83 Health. Gear: Void Ranged, Ruby (e) bolts, Sara/S Restore, Holy Wrench, Adorage Cloak, Xplorer's Ring, Book Prayers: Deflect Mage
  • Result: health before supplies ran out
  • Discussion: Pillar kept Nomad off me from melee but still was able to attack with his magic. Standing right beside the back side made for an easy way to avoid his blast without running over mines. Hiding from his multiples also a very good idea. Could not put out enough damage. Mines do hurt but are recoverable just not recomended to hit more than one or two.
  • Lessons Learned: Brew/Restore ballance is vital to this fight. Drink too much Sara Brew without using a restore and you can't hit. This is probably why people with equal stats can kill him and others with higher stats fail, lack of experience with Sara/Restore DONT use restores when summoned to center your going to get wallopped anways again.

Try 2/3

  • Tactic: Range from pillar with BoB / Spirit Kywatt ambush attack spam
  • Date: 21AUG2010
  • Stats of attack: 108 Combat, 84 Range, 79 Defense, 83 Health. Gear: Void Ranged, Ruby (e) bolts, Sara/S Restore, Adorage Cloak, Book Prayers: Deflect Mage
  • Result: Died 15 sec into fight / Summoned Spirit Kwyatt did not show up and ran out
  • Discussion: Try 2; random ran around the pillar into two land mines and a face of magic bolt. Try 3 Summoned Spirit outside and for some reason it didn't follow in.
  • Lessons Learned: CONTROL!

Try 4

  • Tactic: Range from pillar with BoB / Spirit Kywatt ambush attack spam
  • Date: 21AUG2010
  • Stats of attack: 108 Combat, 84 Range, 79 Defense, 83 Health. Gear: D hide, Ruby (e) bolts, Sara/S Restore, O Cloak, Mind Shield Prayers: Deflect Mage
  • Result: Just below 1/2 health after 1/4 health heal
Discussion: Where BoB method would be classified as the damage soaker method this would be classified as the Blitz method. Damage mitagation is critical with this as you don't have a big reserve of healing to fall upon. Prayer boosting gear is a waste at this point as the S Restores keep you well toppe off. Even with the build to more towards magic defense I was still taking in more damage than I could and ended up dieing. This tactic might be better suited for a higher defense player or a melee guy with alternate healing options i.e. Godsword / Gunthan's
Lessons Learned: Damage mitigation is just as critical as potion control. Still need to work on potion control.

Try 5

  • Tactic: Range from pillar with BoB / Spirit Kywatt ambush attack spam
  • Date: 11SEP2010
  • Stats of attack: 109 Combat, 85 Range, 80 Defense, 83 Health. Gear: D hide Top, Karl's bottom, Ruby (e) bolts, Diamond (e) bolts, Range ring/neck Sara/S Restore, O Cloak, Mind Shield Prayers: Eagle eye + Steel Skin
  • Result: Melee phase then reset
Discussion: In the time that it has taken to restock I found a Youtube video of a player that used both a BoB and the Spirit Kywatt to down Nomad. Tried it out and it worked well. Could have finished the fight if I had realized that I went into the melee phase. Since I didn't, Nomad reset. Using regular prayer book and using both the Def and range boost prayers seemed to help a little. At the very least it didn't seem to be worse than using protect prayers. Would love to have the Prayer Rigor for this fight but I'm no where near the dungeoneering level or tokens to get it. Besides between the Mage defence gear and the lower prayers it is doable. Potion control seems to be even better than before, now it's a matter of getting the right count of brews to restores
  • Lessons Learned: Switching from BoB to Spirit Kywatt gives the best of both worlds. Pay attention to melee call and get prayers switched out. Turn off auto retaliate during multiples.

Try 6-9

  • Tactic: Range from pillar with BoB / Spirit Kywatt ambush attack spam
  • Date: 11SEP2010
  • Stats of attack: 109 Combat, 85 Range, 80 Defense, 83 Health. Gear: D hide Top, Karl's bottom, Ruby (e) bolts, Diamond (e) bolts, Range ring/neck Sara/S Restore, O Cloak, Mind Shield Prayers: Eagle eye + Steel Skin
  • Result: varrious stages most right to melee portion
Discussion: Kept getting a bad turn of luck in one form or another. Twice Nomad didn't move away from the pillar when he casted his 750lp attack and took me out. One time took a ruby proc right before the big life point hit.
  • Lessons Learned: MOVE, get out the way. and pay attention to details stupid. (ok not a lesson I need to learn but just keep in mind) STAY CALM!

Try 10

  • Tactic: Range from pillar with BoB / Spirit Kywatt ambush attack spam
  • Date: 11SEP2010
  • Stats of attack: 109 Combat, 85 Range, 80 Defense, 83 Health. Gear: D hide Top, Karl's bottom, Ruby (e) bolts, Diamond (e) bolts, Range ring/neck Sara/S Restore, Accumulator, Mind Shield Prayers: Eagle eye + Steel Skin then Protect Melee + Peity for last part
  • Result: Nomad Dead / Mission Complete
  • Discussion: Was down to last set of Super Restores and Saradomin brew so decided to pull out all the stops. The additional range bonus of the accumulator along with the full practice with brew/restore and I was easily into the final melee stage with a full bag. Good thing too, tried going toe to toe with Nomad and almost lost it. Move over to a pillar to slow the fight down so I could restore health a little. It was also a good idea to use both Protect Melee and Peity at the same time. Kywatt work like a charm. Using the diamond tip bolts during the ice block was also good as it helped to remove some of his defence early in the fight making it easier to hit him, also prevented that nasty proc/max damage hit that I suffered. I'll probably do a write up on this stratagy in the comming days and post it on the Nomad page so others can follow.

  • Lessons Learned: Quest cape doesn't look as sexy as the Soul Wars cape.

Future Attempts: None

Fire Cape / TzHaar Fight Cave[edit | edit source]

Postponed until latency gets better.

23 July 2011

Keep getting this as a Slayer task so I'm going to attempt it when I get slayer assignments only until I get a better latency. current setup is based of previous attempts prioritizing killing over prayer except where prayer bonus is very large. This has worked in the past every well just lagging out at JAD.

Armor: Karil's top, Karil's bottom, slayer helm, snakeskin boots, barrows gloves, ava's alerter, god stole, unholy book, range ring.

Weapons: rune X bow, broad tipped bolt X 1000

Inventory: Full Guthans, diamond bolts (e) X 250, enhanced excalibur

Supplies: Range pot (2 dose), Prayer pot X 6, Sara Brew X 9, S Restore X 3, Rocktail X 2

Barrows[edit | edit source]

Discussion Been doing Barrows for the last couple days. Not all that impressed. Been using Ancient spellbook Blood Blitz and Ice Blitz. Does good damage against the melee guys but eats up runes. Tried Blood Rush and Ice Rush and just took too much damage. Was using full void with Ancient Staff so there might be some issues with hit and damage. Magic Attack bonus was at +32 and Magic Damage at 10% I will assume there is another 30% invisible thrown in there for the void but I'm not sure. The Mage brother went down with no problems with void melee or range but the only thing that hurt the Range brother was melee. He also did a lot of damage and should be taken out towards the top of the order. Prayer is almost critical with him using void. Even Dharok was able to not use prayers unless health was low.

Order of Killing

Karil (most guides have these reversed but I feel it's more critical to have prayer for Karil where Dhorak is possible to kill without)

Dhorak

Verac

Guthan

Torag

Ahrim

The last four could be done in any order but this is the standard kill order and I see no reason to deviate from it.

Gear; Void gear was good as it provided ease of swapping styles with just a helmet and weapon change. Future trips should skip Range gear as both the mage and ranger are easily killed with melee. I do feel that damage was overall low for the ammount of rewards that were offered. Swaping in Ahrim's Robes I get 96 magic attack so I'll try a couple runs like that with Karil's armor for the other events and see how that works. Gear that isnt being swapped out is Nomad cloak, (for prayer bonus) Blessed shield (for defense stats), whip, amulet of glory, mistic boots, mistic ring.
