Greetings, I am known as Aleister, although those who know me prefer to simply call me Al. I currently live a peaceful life in Lumbridge, helping out new adventurers, and teaching them the ways of the god of balance, Guthix.
In my younger days I have had a very exciting life, travelling around Gielinor and learning countless valuable bits of wisdom. When I decided to retire in Lumbridge, I had thought that those days were behind me, but I have recently found my life still quite exciting nevertheless, albeit slightly more settled.
During my travels, I have studied various subjects from several different sources. As a result, I have a diverse and unbiased perspective, which is the reason that I choose to follow Guthix.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Early years[edit | edit source]
I was born in the year 89 of the 5th Age, in Nardah. My given birth name was the common Ali, which is quite popular in the Kharidian Desert. As was the social custom in Nardah at the time, I was raised to worship Elidinis, the goddess of water, fertility and River Elid. Growing up, I had a natural talent in the art of magic, specifically water based spells, which led many of the older citizens to believe that I was to become a symbol of Elidinis herself, one of her most prominent priests. Because of my unique abilities in the arcane, I stood out among the rest of the children, which did not fit my commonly used name, this led many to simply refer to me with the nickname "Al," which is the name that I got used to over time.
Life travelling Gielinor[edit | edit source]
It was during my mid-twenties that I decided that I would travel the world, a choice I had made on the fact that I had constantly held a yearning for exploring other cultures and traditions. Once I departed however, I quickly felt my courage unexpectedly diminish. I had not been mentally prepared for the great voyage ahead, and so I spent some time in Al Kharid, gathering my wits. However it was here that I learnt basic combat, particularly with use of the scimitar, a specialty of Al Kharid's. It is a still that I still make use of today, albeit I am certainly no expert.
Soon, I became mature enough to continue on with my adventure. It was at this point were I realized that I was to become an adventurer, possibly even a famed heroic figure to many. I realized that my name of Ali was just not suitable for someone like myself, and so I decided to adopt a new one. I was used to my nickname "Al," so that had to stay. And I recalled reading somewhere that the most favorable name for one to become famous took the form of a dactyl. The name "Aleister" fit perfectly. It was a dactyl, it contained a unique magical essence and it still allowed me to be known as Al.
For the next several years, I did just as I wanted, I explored. I ventured through the islands of Karamja and Crandor; the kingdoms of Misthalin, Asgarnia and Kandarin; and countless remote caves and dungeons. During my travels I obtained many obscure skills and facts of knowledge, but the most important and prominent were of magic and religion.
I spent a period of my life studying magic in the Wizard's Tower, and although I was incredibly impressed with the people and knowledge that was held there, I secretly found it to be rather biased. Once I felt that I had learnt enough from the Wizard's Tower, I pursued my studies elsewhere. Magical knowledge of a different variety was something that I sought after, however it was very difficult to find in such a Saradominist society. However I managed to gain a basic understanding of occult traditions from various sources such as a group of Dark Wizards, Malignius Mortifer and three witches by the names of Hetty, Betty and Maggie.
I realized very quickly in my travels that there was a very widespread struggle on the topic of religion in the world outside of the Kharidian Desert. This conflict was mainly between followers of Saradomin and Zamorak. Gods influenced entire lifestyles, not only that but worship even went so far as to influence forms of magic! Back where I was from, the gods that we worshiped were hailed and respected, but did not hold such a tight grasp on the population. And there was certainly no conflict over which ones to worship, one type of religion was easily respected by another one. Being raised in that environment is what I think influenced my own attitude towards the subject. I personally respected both Saradomin and Zamorak, even though I also had criticisms of each of the religions. I admired the sense of community that Saradominists held, and the vast amounts of resources and incredible archives of information in the Wizard's Tower was proof enough of that. However I found the Saradomin religion to have a bad habit of censorship. And while I disliked the rather brutal methods of the Zamorakians, I found their arcane techniques to be very valuable and found it a shame that this knowledge was lost to most of the population, scattered in bits around the world.
What I consider one of the most prominent highlights of my life was when I discovered the answer to my spiritual dilemma: Guthix. The dogma of Guthix was exactly what I found myself needing. It was a belief in balance, the inevitable necessity and value of all things in the world. Before, I was a devout follower of Elidinis, whom I respected (and still do) for her upkeep of balance in the harsh desert, but Guthix was on an entire different scale than Elidinis. The values and edicts instilled by him complimented my very own philosophies on life, and I immediately prided myself as one of his followers. After making the decision to follow Guthix, I considered my life to have began a completely different path than from before.
