An uncut gem is a rough gemstone that has not been crafted into a finished product. Uncut gems can be commonly obtained as a drop from various monsters or by Mining various gem rocks. Uncut gems cannot be put into an ore box, but the gem bag fulfils a similar purpose instead (for sapphire through diamond, and additionally dragonstone with gem bag (upgraded)).
Generally, cutting gems is a fast but expensive way to train Crafting, but some gems may be more affordable to cut depending on the current market. At present, cutting uncut emeralds is one of the less costly options - see Calculator:Crafting/Gem cutting.

- Uncut gems used to have the examine text "It would be worth more cut" but it was changed since uncut gems are generally worth more than cut ones.
- You need a higher Crafting level to cut ruby than sapphire, but in real life, ruby and sapphire are just different colours of corundum.
