For other gem rocks, see gem rock.

Uncommon gem rocks are rocks containing gems. They can be mined by players with a Mining level of 20 or higher, although the full drop table is only available at level 34.

The gem bag (requires 25 Crafting and Dungeoneering, costs 2,000 Dungeoneering tokens) is excellent to have when mining these, as it can hold any type of gem they yield, up to 100 total, greatly extending trips.

Due to the relatively low value and high abundance of sapphires, they could be cut for Crafting xp, then dropped or made into stackable sapphire bolt tips with Fletching to save space. However, if you attempt to fletch bolt tips during mining, the fletching action will be cancelled; cutting uncut gems does not have this issue.

The average ratio for the gems while mining (with level 34 mining or higher) at the uncommon gem rocks is 50% sapphires, 30% emeralds, and 20% rubies. While values may fluctuate due to chance on individual trips, these numbers are true for long mining sessions.

Using the above ratios, if a player cuts all the gems they collect, they will receive an average of 62.25 crafting experience per gem, or 65.985 crafting experience with the artisan's outfit. These experience values are useful when calculating how many gems to collect for reaching desired crafting levels.
